Fitted Wardrobes in Broad Green

Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. Our work on fitted wardrobes in Broad Green starts with a design visit, and everything is made at our workshop.

  • Dusty space on top of the wardrobe
  • A bedroom that never feels tidy
  • A room too narrow for hinged doors

Fitted wardrobes designed for your room

About our fitted wardrobes in Broad Green

Doors can be hinged or sliding. Hinged doors open a whole section at once. Sliding doors save that space in a narrow room, although only part of the wardrobe is open at a time. We weigh them up with you during the design visit. We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about clothes with nowhere proper to go and a sloping ceiling that’s hard to use.

Across London, neighbouring streets can be decades apart in age, and the walls in a bedroom might be brick, blockwork, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Each wall is checked during the design visit before fixings are chosen. If the room has a chimney breast, the alcoves can take fitted storage; if not, a full wall often works best.

The furniture is made in our workshop after you’ve had the quote and decided to go ahead. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so you can check every detail beforehand.

Flats, blocks and rented homes

In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so each section is sized to get through without a struggle.

A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind, after measuring the route at the measuring visit.

Questions we are often asked

Can you fit furniture in a home close to West Croydon station?

Yes, homes across Croydon and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can send us a few details through our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Is parking a problem for fitting in Broad Green?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.

How do you get fitted wardrobes into a flat?

The wardrobes are made in sections sized to get up the stairs, into the lift and through the doors. We measure the stairs, landings and lift as well as the bedroom. In a leasehold flat, it’s worth checking the lease first.

Do you move sockets or add lighting?

No. We are carpenters, so electrical work is for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design.

Should I send pictures?

Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space, especially with rough sizes. You can send them when you drop us a line using the contact form.

Can you fit wardrobes under a sloping ceiling?

Yes. Sloping ceilings are common in loft conversions. We measure the slope carefully at the design visit and scribe the wardrobe to it.

Honest limits

We do not treat damp or carry out building work, so these points are worth knowing:

  • Decorating or plastering the room
  • Curing damp, which needs the right specialist
  • Converting a loft (we build storage in lofts that are already converted)

If in doubt, you can fill in our short enquiry form and describe the room. Our process from visit to fitting.

What goes into it

  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Birch plywood
  • Hanging rails, shelves and drawers
  • Hinged or sliding doors

Tips worth knowing

Most of what helps is simple. What we’d suggest:

  • Look at how many long coats and dresses you have
  • Check the route into your flat, not just the room
  • Mention if the wardrobe will go on an external wall
  • Plan any socket or switch changes with your electrician before fitting

Painted doors feel dry quickly but take longer to cure fully. At first, handle the doors with care and avoid knocking hangers against the inside.

Keep any ventilation gaps clear, particularly on an external wall. Look out for a musty smell or spots on clothes and have the cause looked at early.

How fitting works for fitted wardrobes

You will not need to do much on the day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and the room should already be cleared, as we will have talked about at the measuring visit. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. How long fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. It is useful to clear the room and the route in before fitting day, including pictures on nearby walls. We cover floors and doorways first. Then the sections come in and are joined in place.

  1. You get in touch and let us know about the room.
  2. We come to measure and go through the design, including the doors and the finish.
  3. We send a quote in writing.
  4. The wardrobes are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then sprayed if you chose a spray finish.
  5. The wardrobes are fitted and scribed, with any hand painting done in the room.
  6. At the end we check each door and drawer with you; fresh paintwork needs gentle handling while it cures.

How to prepare

  • Clear the area where the furniture is going
  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street

Ask for a quote

A quote begins with a few details from you: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of pictures if you can take them. To send them, tell us about the room on our contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and talk through the design, then send a quote in writing.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it is quick to buy.

Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. That is something we plan for in the design.

Broad Green homes and fitted wardrobes

In the neighbourhood around Broad Green, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 38%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 22%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. There are 5 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Broad Green. You can check whether a particular building is listed on Historic England’s list. Since the zone was extended to the outer boroughs in August 2023, the whole of London has been inside the ULEZ. It applies to every van that comes to fit furniture in Broad Green. How the van gets to your door is planned at the design visit.

For a flat near West Croydon station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in. For an older house near Church of St Saviour, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice. If you live near Waddon Ponds, a bedroom facing the green is best kept light, with the furniture on the side walls.
