North Cray Fitted Wardrobes

Fitted wardrobes for your home in North Cray: floor-to-ceiling wardrobes built to the shape of your bedroom. We visit to measure and talk through the design, make the furniture in our workshop and fit it.

  • Dusty space on top of the wardrobe
  • Empty alcoves in the bedroom
  • A bedroom that never feels tidy

What we don’t do

Our work is the furniture itself: designing it, making it in our workshop and fitting it. In practice, that means:

  • Fixing the cause of condensation or damp
  • Any wiring or new sockets (your electrician handles those)
  • The loft conversion itself, which is building work under Building Regulations

If in doubt, you can use our contact form and describe the room. How it works.

What goes into it

  • Spray-painted finish
  • Hinged or sliding doors
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Birch plywood
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Hanging rails, shelves and drawers

How we make fitted wardrobes for North Cray

External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, and clothes pressed against a cold wall can lead to condensation. Where a wardrobe goes on an external wall, we plan ventilation behind and inside it to help avoid condensation and mould. Moisture-resistant MDF is a sensible choice there too. If your home has dusty space on top of the wardrobe and a sloping ceiling that’s hard to use, that’s what fitted wardrobes are for, made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.

With interwar houses or semis a big part of the housing around North Cray, bedrooms are often simple shapes, sometimes with a chimney breast or a bay. That makes a full wall of fitted furniture simple to plan, laid out around what you store. Where a loft conversion has been added, the sloping ceiling can take storage too.

Where other trades are needed, for instance an electrician to move a socket, we point that out, so it can be arranged before fitting day. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

Your questions about fitted wardrobes in North Cray

Do you cover homes near Albany Park station?

Yes. We cover all of Bexley and the rest of London. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with some details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Does a conservation area in or near North Cray affect fitted furniture?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.

How long does it take to fit wardrobes?

It depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and your quote sets out the fitting days. The wardrobes are made in our workshop first.

What finishes do you offer?

There are two options: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. The finish is agreed in your quote.

What happens when you come to measure?

We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and talk through the design with you. Access and parking are worth talking about too.

How do I get a quote for fitted wardrobes in North Cray?

It’s easiest to use our contact form and let us know about the room. After that, we arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.

Why people ask for fitted wardrobes in North Cray

After a loft conversion, the new bedroom typically needs storage that suits the slopes. Wardrobes built under the slope use space that would otherwise sit empty, leaving the floor open.

Some of the things we’re asked to solve are these:

  • Several odd pieces where one run of storage would do
  • Gaps above and around standalone wardrobes
  • Clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms
  • An awkward slope in a loft bedroom

The wider area includes historic houses such as Hall Place and Gardens, about 1.4 miles north-east. For a period home anywhere nearby, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go.

What to check before you book

  • A written quote that sets out the job
  • Who does any electrics, plumbing or gas work
  • Is it spray painted or hand painted?
  • How the doors are hung and adjusted

Our checklist for choosing a carpenter

Could you do it yourself?

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s normally a gap left over at the top or at one end. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder.

Fitted bedroom furniture in North Cray

The biggest shares of homes in the area around North Cray were built between 1945 and 1972 (about 44%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 22%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. The National Heritage List records 6 entries within half a mile of the centre of North Cray. Being near listed buildings doesn’t make a home listed, and you can check any address on Historic England’s list. Controlled parking zones are run by the boroughs, so the rules in Bexley are set locally. Where a street in North Cray is controlled, a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension from the council. Parking near your home is worth mentioning at the design visit.

Living in a block of flats near Albany Park station? Then the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in. If you live in a period home close to Parish Church of St James, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice.

How it is made

Moisture-resistant MDF

MDF has no grain, so painted doors look smooth and even. The moisture-resistant grade is our choice for fitted work.

Spray-painted finish

A sprayed coat covers edges, corners and panels evenly for a smooth finish. The colour is agreed at the design stage.

What happens on fitting day

Finishing comes last. With a spray finish from the workshop, there’s normally only filling and touching up to do in the room; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. Some interwar and suburban streets have driveways, which can make unloading easier, so let us know during the design visit. Otherwise, details of permits or nearby bays help. Doorways, stairs and floors are covered on the way in.

  1. You get in touch about fitted wardrobes for your bedroom.
  2. At the design visit, we measure the room, check the walls, floor and ceiling and plan the doors and inside with you. Hinged or sliding doors are part of that conversation.
  3. You receive a quote setting out the design and the paint finish.
  4. We build the wardrobes in our workshop, in sections sized to get into your home.
  5. Fitting day: the wardrobes go in, are levelled and scribed, and the doors are hung.

Before fitting day

  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are
  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
