Flats, conversions and lettings

Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too, often to make the most of a small or awkward room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a spray or hand-painted finish.

Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them during the design visit, and we’ll plan the fitting around them.

About our fitted wardrobes in Welling

Loft conversions, common in London terraces, often leave sloping ceilings. A fitted wardrobe can follow the slope, with long hanging at the tall end and shelves or drawers where it gets lower. It turns an awkward corner into storage. If your home has gaps above and around standalone wardrobes and a tight bedroom where doors get in the way, that is what fitted wardrobes are for, made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

A loft conversion is a common way to add a bedroom to a semi or an interwar house, and the slope can take storage cut to its angle. A big part of the housing around Welling is interwar, semi-detached or detached. Our part starts once the loft has been converted, with each piece scribed to the slope and set level.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there is often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it is quick to buy.

Fitting day, step by step

When we arrive on fitting day, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. Next, we carry in the sections made in our workshop. How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. Fitting day means carrying in the sections, joining them and fitting them to the walls. Spray-painted pieces come finished from the workshop, while hand painting can happen on site. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

  1. You contact us about fitted wardrobes.
  2. At the design visit we measure the room and agree the layout and doors.
  3. Your written quote follows, setting out the design, materials and finish.
  4. The wardrobes are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then sprayed if you chose a spray finish.
  5. We fit them in your home, scribed to the walls and ceiling; a hand-painted finish is done on site.
  6. At the end we check each door and drawer with you; fresh paintwork needs gentle handling while it cures.

What prompts fitted wardrobes in Welling

Sometimes it is a change in how a room is used. Fitted wardrobes give it proper storage. Inside, the layout can change as needs change.

A few of the things people ask us to solve include:

  • Empty alcoves in the bedroom
  • Condensation behind a wardrobe on an outside wall
  • An awkward slope in a loft bedroom
  • Clothes with nowhere proper to go

For an older house near St John's Church, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go.

Choosing a carpenter

  • Will the quote be in writing?
  • Is it spray painted or hand painted?

Bedroom storage in Welling

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 75% of the housing in the area around Welling, with about 9% built between 1945 and 1972, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Welling include Danson Park Mansion (Grade I), under half a mile south-east. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, can require listed building consent. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. About 75% of homes in the streets around Welling date from between 1919 and 1939, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Houses from that era often have a box room over the stairs, with a raised bulkhead in the floor, which suits fitted storage made around its bulkhead.

For a flat near Welling station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in. If you live near Danson Park, keeping fitted wardrobes off the window wall keeps the room bright.

Questions from Welling

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Welling station?

Yes, homes across Bexley and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with a few details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Can you make fitted wardrobes for a home in Welling?

Yes, Welling is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Bexley and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, and then we send a quote.

What finishes do you offer?

You can choose between two finishes: by spray or by hand. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.

Hinged or sliding doors: which suits my bedroom?

That depends on how much space there is in front of the wardrobe. Where a bed sits close by, sliding doors often work better. We’ll look at the room with you at the design visit.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Just mention it when you get in touch, and we will see what we can do.

Can fitted wardrobes go either side of the bed?

Yes. Storage around a bed makes good use of a wall that’s often wasted. The bed size and room are measured when we visit.

How it’s made

Moisture-resistant MDF

MDF in a moisture-resistant grade is stable and paints evenly, which makes it ideal for wardrobe doors and visible panels. It is a sensible choice against a colder external wall.

Doors and drawer fronts

Hinged doors suit rooms with space in front. Sliding doors suit narrow rooms, though only part of the inside is open at once.
