Fitted wardrobes in Selhurst

We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood in our workshop. The doors are finished with spray paint in the workshop or painted by hand, in the colour you choose. We then fit them in your home, setting them level on adjustable feet or a plinth. We make fitted wardrobes from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and the things people most often want solved are dusty space on top of the wardrobe and clothes with nowhere proper to go.

Where housing is mixed, as in much of London, bedrooms range from box rooms to large rooms with bays and sloping ceilings. Fitted furniture can suit each, sized and laid out for the room. Every wall in Selhurst homes is measured on site, because none is assumed to be square.

The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. The finish is stated too, whether that is spray painting or hand painting.

Could you do it yourself?

It is worth being honest about cost: off-the-shelf furniture usually costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is awkward, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well.

How fitting works for fitted wardrobes

You are welcome to ask questions while we work. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully. How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. London parking ranges from controlled zones to driveways and private bays, so let us know what applies at the measuring visit. If you live in a flat, any lift or building rules are worth checking too.

  1. You send us a few details about the room and the storage you need.
  2. We come to measure the room, check the walls and ceiling and agree the layout. We also look at the way in, in case the sections need to go up narrow stairs.
  3. Your quote follows, with the layout, materials and finish set out.
  4. Each section is built in our workshop to the room’s measurements.
  5. We fit them in your home, levelled and scribed to the walls.

Before fitting day

  • Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to
  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall

Advice

What it costs

A few things affect what fitted furniture costs:

  • How big the furniture is
  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
  • Doors and drawers, and how many
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside.

Getting in touch

You do not need exact measurements or a plan. Just send what you can:

  • Whether it’s a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
  • What the furniture needs to hold
  • Examples of the look you are after
  • Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling

The design visit is where every quote starts. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and talk through the design with you. A written quote follows the visit, so you can take your time with it. To book one, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Fitted bedroom furniture in Selhurst

The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Selhurst were built before 1919 (about 41%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 17%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. There are 6 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Selhurst. You can check whether a particular building is listed on Historic England’s list. More than a third of the homes in the streets around Selhurst (about 41%) were built before 1919, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Bedrooms in houses of that age often have a chimney breast and alcoves, which suit wardrobes built to their widths, scribed to walls that are not straight.

For a family home near St Mark's Church of England Primary Academy, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else. Kingswood House, about 2.2 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go. If your home is one of the older houses near Church of St Mark, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice.

How it’s made

Moisture-resistant MDF

MDF has no grain, so painted doors look smooth and even. The moisture-resistant grade is our choice for fitted work.

Hanging rails

Rails are set at heights that suit your clothes: one high rail for long coats and dresses, two rails for shirts and jackets.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them at the measuring visit, and we’ll plan the fitting around them.

Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. If there’s a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Mention it when you contact us.

Questions from Selhurst

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Selhurst?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.

Does a conservation area in or near Selhurst affect fitted furniture?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

Someone needs to let us in. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, by arrangement. Let us know when you contact us if a Saturday suits you best.

Hinged or sliding doors: which suits my bedroom?

That depends on how much space there is in front of the wardrobe. Where a bed sits close by, sliding doors often work better, and in a roomier space hinged doors give easier access. We will look at the room with you at the design visit.

Will fitted wardrobes get up the stairs to my flat?

We make the wardrobes in sections sized to the route into your home. We measure the stairs, landings and lift as well as the bedroom. In a leasehold flat, it’s worth checking the lease first.
