Fitted wardrobes in Temple Mills, Newham

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. We make fitted wardrobes for homes in Temple Mills, each designed at a visit to your home.

  • Clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms
  • Too little room for clothes
  • Musty smells in a wardrobe on a cold wall

Flats, conversions and lettings

We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.

In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of, after checking the walls during the design visit.

About our fitted wardrobes in Temple Mills

You can choose hinged or sliding doors. With hinged doors, you see a full section when you open them, but they need clear space in front to swing. Sliding doors save that space in a narrow room, but only part of the inside is open at any one time. Which suits your room is something we talk through when we visit. We make fitted wardrobes from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the things people most often want solved are no space in front for doors to swing and standard wardrobes that don’t fill the wall.

A large number of homes around Temple Mills date from 2000 onwards, and in London many homes of that age are flats with compact bedrooms. In a compact bedroom, fitted furniture that reaches the ceiling and uses the corners makes the most difference. Boxed-in pipes and service risers can be built around, so nothing is wasted.

Where other trades are needed, for instance an electrician to move a socket, we point that out, so it can be arranged before fitting day. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

The problems fitted wardrobes solve

After a loft conversion, the new bedroom usually needs storage that suits the slopes. Storage built into the slope uses space that would otherwise go to waste, keeping the room clear.

Requests we hear often include:

  • Bedroom alcoves that could hold clothes
  • Storage boxes stacked under the bed
  • Wardrobes that are full to bursting
  • Gaps above and around standalone wardrobes

For an older house near St Eleutherius, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go.

What to check before you book

  • A written quote that sets out the job
  • Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
  • Will they visit to measure before quoting?
  • How the furniture will be finished, and where

What happens on fitting day

You are welcome to ask questions while we work. Most of the decisions were made at the measuring visit and set out in your quote, so the day itself is about careful fitting and leaving everything tidy. How long fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Parking at newer developments can be restricted, with private bays or loading areas, so it’s useful to let us know during the design visit. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled and fixed. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. You get in touch with some details about the bedroom and where it is in the house.
  2. We visit to measure the room and talk through the design, and we measure the stairs, landings and doorways too.
  3. A written quote follows with the design, materials and finish.
  4. In our workshop the wardrobes are built in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, so each piece fits through the doors and round the landings.
  5. We carry the sections up, join them in the room and scribe them to the walls and ceiling.

Preparing the room

  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
  • Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to
  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day

How to get a quote

Rough measurements are fine at the start. Everything is measured properly when we visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To get started, get in touch through our contact form with a few details about the room. You receive a written quote after the visit.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

Before and after fitting day

New paint needs time to cure fully, so treat it gently at first. After that, a few simple habits help:

  • Have sockets moved before the wardrobes go in
  • Think about whether hinged doors will clear the bed
  • Mention if the wardrobe will go on an external wall
  • Look at how many long coats and dresses you have

Hang clothes evenly along each rail. Heavy coats are best on a short rail or near a support.

Do not dry washing inside a wardrobe or in the bedroom with the doors shut because damp air ends up in the wardrobes. Opening a window now and then helps.

Your questions about fitted wardrobes in Temple Mills

How do you fit fitted wardrobes in a flat in Temple Mills?

We measure the route in as well as the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. Fitted wardrobes are made in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it’s worth checking those early.

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Temple Mills?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.

Should I send pictures?

Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit. Show anything the furniture has to work around, such as radiators or sockets.

How long are you in the house for fitting?

The fitting depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. The making happens in our workshop before we come to fit them.

Do you move sockets or add lighting?

No. Sockets, switches and lighting are for your electrician. We will design around them.

What can go inside a fitted wardrobe?

We plan it with you at the design visit, based on what you wear and how much of it there is. Adjustable shelves keep some flexibility for later.
