Fitted wardrobes in Maryland, Newham

Fitted wardrobes for your home in Maryland: floor-to-ceiling wardrobes built to the shape of your bedroom. We visit to measure and go through the design, make the furniture in our workshop and fit it.

  • Standard wardrobes that do not fill the wall
  • Condensation behind a wardrobe on an outside wall
  • Too little room for clothes

Fitted wardrobes in Maryland

How it’s made

Doors and drawer fronts

Drawer fronts can sit behind the doors or on the outside as you prefer. Inside drawers keep the front simple.

Hanging rails

Rails are placed so the top one is within easy reach. Shelves above the rails hold things used less often.

How we make fitted wardrobes for Maryland

The inside matters as much as the doors. Long hanging, double hanging, shelves and drawers are arranged around what you own, so coats and dresses have room and shirts don’t waste height. It is worth noting the clothes you reach for most before the design visit. We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and people most often get in touch about wasted space beside the chimney breast and storage boxes stacked under the bed.

Many homes around Maryland were built since 2000, and across London a lot of homes from those years are compact flats in newer blocks. In a compact bedroom, fitted furniture that reaches the ceiling and uses the corners makes the most difference. Boxing for pipes and risers is designed around rather than left as dead space.

Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

Flats, conversions and lettings

If the property is let, we’ll need access agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf.

Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations. We can’t give advice on leases, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.

What affects the price in Maryland

We quote each job after the design visit, because no two rooms are the same. This is what makes the difference:

  • The number of doors and drawers
  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted
  • The internal fittings
  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.

What to send when you get in touch

Getting a few details early makes the visit more useful. Where you can, include:

  • Examples of the look you’re after
  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall

The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. Afterwards, we send a quote in writing. To book one, send us a few details through our contact form.

Tips worth knowing

The finish lasts best with a little care. These practical tips help:

  • Empty the area where we will be working
  • For a flat, measure the stairs, landings and lift
  • Think about whether hinged doors will clear the bed
  • Count how much long hanging and short hanging you need

If you have sliding doors, keep the bottom track clear of dust and fluff to keep them running smoothly. Don’t let shoes or bags sit in the track.

Avoid drying clothes in the bedroom where you can, as the extra moisture can lead to condensation. A little ventilation in the room helps.

Fitted wardrobes in Maryland: local notes

Homes built since 2000 make up about 55% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Maryland, with about 19% built before 1919, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. That matters for fitted wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. 4 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of the centre of Maryland. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings. Newer homes are more common around Maryland than across Newham: about 55% date from 2000 onwards, against about 29%, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Newer homes often have stud walls and compact rooms, so fixings and sizes are planned with that in mind.

If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as The Theatre Royal, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can need listed building consent. If you live near West Ham Park, keeping fitted wardrobes off the window wall keeps the room bright. The wider area includes historic houses like Sutton House, about 2.1 miles west. For a period home anywhere nearby, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice.

Maryland is within the London Borough of Newham, about 2 miles south-east of Plaistow. Maryland is part of the area we cover. Maryland is one of the places in Newham where we make fitted wardrobes.

Every home in E15, E20 and E7 is covered for fitted wardrobes, from the main roads to the quieter streets. We cover homes on streets such as Cam Road, Ward Road and Wise Road, along with the roads around them, whether you want fitted wardrobes or another piece made for the room. We also cover the places around Maryland: Stratford (1 mile west), East Village (1 mile north-west), Temple Mills (1 mile north-west), West Ham (1 mile south-east) and Holloway Down (1 mile north). We also make fitted wardrobes in nearby places like Plaistow (2 miles south-east), Canning Town (2 miles south-east), East Ham (3 miles east), Upton Park (2 miles east), Greengate (2 miles south-east) and Plashet (2 miles east).

Around Maryland

The streets we cover here include those near The Two Puddings pub, Carpenters Primary School and Sarah Bonnell School, among other places. There is a railway station in Maryland itself: Stratford (London) station. Other landmarks nearby include Passmore Edwards Museum (0.5 miles east) and Queen Mary's Hospital for the East End (a few minutes’ walk east). For a walk, there is Old Ford Island.

From workshop to your room

Once the main sections are fixed in place, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, and then we check it all again. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Newer developments sometimes have their own parking and loading rules, so let us know what applies during the design visit. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled and fixed. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. You get in touch and let us know what you keep in your wardrobes now.
  2. We visit to measure up and work out the inside with you, from rail heights to drawer depths.
  3. The written quote sets out each wardrobe’s inside layout, the doors, the materials and the finish.
  4. Everything is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, which holds screws well for rails and runners.
  5. We fit the wardrobes in your home, then put in the rails, shelves and drawers at the heights we agreed.

Before fitting day

  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
  • Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
  • Keep pets in another room while we work

Your questions about fitted wardrobes in Maryland

Do you cover homes near Stratford (London) station?

Yes. We cover all of Newham and the rest of London. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Can you make fitted wardrobes for a home in Maryland?

Yes, Maryland is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Newham and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and go through the design, and then we send a quote.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, by arrangement. Tell us when you get in touch if a Saturday suits you best.

Does fitted furniture need planning permission?

Not usually. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, and furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need it. Listed buildings are different: check with the council’s conservation officer first.

What happens when you come to measure?

We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, then send a quote in writing.

Is it possible to build wardrobes into a loft room with a slope?

Yes. Many loft rooms have sloping ceilings, and fitted wardrobes are one of the best ways to use them. We measure the slope carefully at the design visit and scribe the wardrobe to it.
