About our loft storage in Temple Mills

Our work is in loft rooms that are already converted, or lofts that are boarded. The conversion itself isn’t our work, and conversions come under Building Regulations. Once the room is finished, we can design storage to suit it. If you have a converted loft in Temple Mills, the design visit is the first step. If you’re living with boxes and suitcases with no home and a boarded loft with no proper shelving, eaves cupboards made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.

Many homes around Temple Mills were built since 2000, and across London a lot of homes from those years are flats with compact layouts. Where a boiler or cylinder sits in a cupboard, the design keeps the clearances its maker sets out. Shallow cupboards suit narrow halls, so the hallway still feels open.

Our quotes are written in plain words, without jargon. They say what will be made, what it’s made from and how it will be finished, all taken from the design visit.

What happens on fitting day

When the fitting is done, we tidy the room and take up the floor coverings. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together and explain how to look after the paint. The time the fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Parking at newer developments can be restricted, with private bays or loading areas, so let us know what applies at the design visit. The furniture comes in sections and is fixed in place. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

  1. It starts when you get in touch about storage in your loft.
  2. At the design visit, we look at the slopes, the eaves and the way up, and go through the design with you.
  3. Your quote sets out the design, the materials and the finish.
  4. We make the cupboards and drawers in our workshop, cut to the slope.
  5. The storage is fitted and set level, ready to fill.

Why people ask for loft storage in Temple Mills

A boarded loft can be made far more useful with shelving. Storage in a boarded loft keeps everything organised. It is ideal for things you need now and then.

Typical reasons people contact us include:

  • Furniture that cannot get up to the loft
  • Boxes piled on loft boards
  • A dormer that is not being used
  • A sloping ceiling with no room for a wardrobe

The wider area includes historic houses such as Sutton House, about 1.6 miles west. For a period home anywhere nearby, eaves cupboards in a converted loft are scribed to slopes that are rarely even.

Flats, conversions and lettings

If the property is let, we’ll need access agreed with the tenants. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf.

A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it.

Making use of awkward spaces in Temple Mills

In the neighbourhood around Temple Mills, the largest groups of homes date from the years since 2000 (about 84%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 8%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Temple Mills include Gainsborough School (Grade II), about 0.5 miles south-west. If your own home is listed, changes inside that alter its character, such as fixing into or removing original joinery, can require listed building consent. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. About 82% of households in the streets around Temple Mills live in purpose-built flats, in the ONS Census 2021 figures. In a block, each section is sized to get up the stairs or into the lift and through the door. Building management rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours are worth checking early.

For families living near Chobham Academy, eaves cupboards can give school bags, shoes and sports kit a proper home. Close to Mabley Green? Living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place.

Common questions about loft storage

Is parking a problem for fitting in Temple Mills?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit, so the day can be planned around it.

Is Temple Mills in the area you cover for loft storage?

Yes, Temple Mills is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Newham and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.

Is it possible to fit a wardrobe under the slope?

Yes. Bespoke wardrobes are made to the angle of the ceiling. Hanging goes where there is height, with shelves where it is low. It’s cut to fit the ceiling and walls exactly.

Should I send photos?

Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit. Show anything the furniture has to work around, such as radiators or sockets.

Can the fitting be on a Saturday?

Yes, Saturdays are possible by arrangement. Just mention it when you contact us.

How do you get large pieces into a loft?

Every piece is made in sections that fit up the stairs. We measure the way up as well as the room. It means a full wardrobe can still reach the room.

Materials and finishes

Hand-painted finish

Some people prefer a hand-painted finish for its softer look. It can be applied on site, in a colour agreed with you. It can be matched to the room’s woodwork.

Moisture-resistant MDF

In a loft, stability matters, and moisture-resistant MDF is stable. It gives a smooth base for paint. It forms the doors and panels.

Could you do it yourself?

Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that aren’t square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths, which leaves standard units with gaps at the sides and top.

What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. Off-the-shelf furniture can’t typically do that in an older room.
