Fitted wardrobes in Yeading
An outside wall is often colder than an inside one, and a wardrobe packed against one can trap moist air. Where a wardrobe goes on an external wall, we plan ventilation behind and inside it. We use moisture-resistant MDF, which suits that position. We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the usual reasons to get in touch are damp or musty clothes against an external wall and storage boxes stacked under the bed.
Many homes around Yeading date from the post-war decades, and London’s post-war housing includes flats in blocks as well as houses. Ceiling heights are often lower than in older homes, and the proportions of fitted wardrobes follow the room. In a block of flats, each piece is made in sections that fit the stairs or lift.
A quote in writing is the clearest record of what we’ve agreed. It describes the fitted wardrobe we have designed for the room, its materials and its finish, and it’s what the workshop builds to.

Tips worth knowing
Getting the most from fitted wardrobes starts with the planning and carries on after fitting day. Here are some things worth bearing in mind:
- Measure the gap between the wardrobe wall and the bed
- Empty the area where we’ll be working
- Have sockets moved before the wardrobes go in
- For a flat, measure the stairs, landings and lift
With sliding doors, vacuum the track now and then so the doors run smoothly. Clear anything that falls into it.
Avoid drying clothes in the bedroom where you can, as the extra moisture can lead to condensation. Opening a window now and then helps.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it is quick to buy.
It’s worth being honest about cost: flat-pack is usually cheaper to buy. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.

Questions from Yeading
I live near Southall station. Is that in your area?
Yes, homes across Hillingdon and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
Is parking a problem for fitting in Yeading?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to let us know about parking during the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.
What happens during the design visit?
It is a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, and the written quote comes afterwards.
Can fitted wardrobes go either side of the bed?
Yes. A common layout is tall cupboards either side of the bed and storage above the headboard. It’s planned so there is room around the bed and the room doesn’t feel enclosed.
Can you come on a Saturday?
Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Let us know when you first get in touch.
How do you get fitted wardrobes into a flat?
The wardrobes are made in sections sized to get up the stairs, into the lift and through the doors. That is why we measure the route, not just the room. In a leasehold flat, it’s worth checking the lease first.
Flats, blocks and rented homes
If the property is let, we’ll need access agreed with the tenants. An agent can arrange access for you.
In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways along with the room itself, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through.
Fitting day, step by step
In older rooms, the furniture usually has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details, so it looks as though it was always there. How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. Post-war houses tend to have simple halls and stairs, which helps when the sections come in. Even so, the route is measured at the design visit. The pieces are assembled, levelled and fixed in place, with floors protected throughout.
