Fitted wardrobes in Ruislip: what you get

A fitted wardrobe is built into the room itself, running floor to ceiling and wall to wall where the space allows. There is no dusty gap on top and no awkward space at the ends. If you are planning fitted wardrobes in Ruislip, we start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need. People typically come to us about no space in front for doors to swing and clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

Around Ruislip, interwar houses or semi-detached and detached homes make up a good part of the housing. If yours is a 1920s or 1930s house, the box room over the stairs is a classic spot for fitted furniture, and the bulkhead is built around rather than ignored. The main bedroom may have a bay at the front and a chimney breast on the side wall.

You get the quote in writing, so you can read it at your own pace. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

Fitted wardrobes in Ruislip: local notes

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 58% of the housing in the streets around Ruislip, with about 21% built between 1945 and 1972, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Within a mile of the centre of Ruislip, 5 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Since the zone was extended to the outer boroughs in August 2023, the whole of London has been inside the ULEZ. It applies to every van that comes to fit furniture in Ruislip. We go through parking and access at the measuring visit.

Near listed buildings like Lady Bankes School, less than half a mile south of the centre of Ruislip, older homes may keep original joinery that fitted wardrobes can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can need listed building consent. If you live in a flat close to West Ruislip station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in.

Is bespoke worth it?

Standalone wardrobes cost less to buy and can come with you when you move. If you’re renting or moving soon, that may matter most. Fitted wardrobes stay with the room. Ready-made furniture rarely suits a bay, a box room or a bulkhead over the stairs, and interwar homes often have all three. Built-in pieces are designed to fit them.

Every room is priced on its own, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. You’ll see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.

Why us?

Do you need fitted wardrobes in Ruislip?

An tricky room is another reason. Slopes, chimney breasts, low windows and doors in tricky spots leave standard wardrobes with nowhere to go. We shape fitted wardrobes around those features.

Common reasons to get in touch include:

  • Wasted space beside the chimney breast
  • Clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms
  • A bedroom that never feels tidy
  • Standard wardrobes that do not fill the wall

If your children go to Warrender Primary School or a school nearby, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else.

Questions from Ruislip

Do you cover homes near West Ruislip station?

Yes. We cover all of Hillingdon and the rest of London. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Can you make fitted wardrobes for a home in Ruislip?

Yes, Ruislip is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Hillingdon and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, and then we send a quote.

Can I send photos before the visit?

Yes, they help. Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space, particularly with rough sizes. You can send them when you send us a few details through our contact form.

Who chooses the colour?

The choice is yours, and it is agreed with you before painting. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you have chosen.

What if my bedroom floor isn’t level?

It’s common, and it is allowed for. The wardrobe is set level with a plinth or adjustable feet and scribed to the walls so the doors close neatly.

How long does it take to fit wardrobes?

How long fitting takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. We will talk you through what to expect beforehand.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through without a struggle.

For flats on red routes or busy main roads, unloading takes some planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so tell us about it at the measuring visit.

Materials and finishes

Moisture-resistant MDF

With no grain to show through, MDF gives a calm painted finish. We use the moisture-resistant grade for fitted wardrobes.

Plinths and scribe strips

The plinth lifts the wardrobe and hides an uneven floor. It can line up with the skirting.

What happens on fitting day

Once the main sections are fixed in place, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly. How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. It helps to clear the room and the route before we arrive. On the day, we cover the floors first, then bring the sections in. Each piece is levelled, scribed where the wall wanders and fixed to suit the wall.

  1. You contact us with a short note about the room and the wardrobes you have in mind, including any slopes, windows or alcoves.
  2. We visit to measure the room and talk through the design. We also look at the way in, in case the sections need to go up narrow stairs.
  3. Your quote follows, with the layout, materials and finish set out.
  4. Each section is built in our workshop to the room’s measurements.
  5. We install the wardrobes, hang the doors and fit the rails, shelves and drawers. A hand-painted finish, if you chose one, is done on site.

Before fitting day

  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
