Fitted wardrobes in Yiewsley
About our fitted wardrobes in Yiewsley
Hanging heights are planned around your clothes, not a catalogue. A tall section suits long coats and dresses, while shirts, jackets and folded trousers suit two rails, one above the other. We also think about who uses it. We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and people most often get in touch about a tight bedroom where doors get in the way and bedroom alcoves that could hold clothes.
A bedroom in a 1950s or 1960s home is typically a simple rectangle, with the window on one wall and the door near a corner. Around Yiewsley, many homes were built in the post-war decades, which often means a whole wall of fitted furniture with few tricky cuts. We plan the space in front first, so everything opens fully.
If the job needs another trade, such as an electrician or a plumber, we’ll tell you. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

Questions we’re often asked
Is parking a problem for fitting in Yiewsley?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It’s useful to tell us about parking at the design visit.
Do you cover homes near Southall station?
Yes, homes across Hillingdon and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with a few details about the room.
What can go inside a fitted wardrobe?
We plan it with you at the measuring visit, based on what you wear and how much of it there is. Some shelves can be adjustable so the layout can change.
Should I send photos?
Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot. You can send them when you message us from the contact page.
Can you fit wardrobes under a sloping ceiling?
Yes. We shape the wardrobe to follow the slope, with long hanging where there’s height and shelves or drawers where it’s lower. It turns awkward space into storage.
Can wardrobes be fitted on an uneven floor?
Floors in older houses are often out of level. We set fitted wardrobes level on a plinth or adjustable feet, so the doors hang true.
How fitting day works
At the end, we tidy up and lift the floor protection. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you. How long fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. Post-war houses tend to have simple halls and stairs, so carrying in is rarely difficult. The way in is still measured, along with the room. On the day, sections are joined, levelled and fixed.
- It starts when you tell us about the room, the floor it’s on and the wardrobes you want.
- At the design visit we plan the wardrobes with you and check the route in, including any lift or tight stair turn.
- You receive a written quote for the wardrobes.
- In our workshop the wardrobes are built in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, so each piece fits through the doors and round the landings.
- We carry the sections up, join them in the room and scribe them to the walls and ceiling.
Preparing the room
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
- Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
Arranging a design visit
Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them tell us a lot about the space. To send them over, get in touch through our contact form, and we will suggest a time for a design visit.

Before and after fitting day
Because fitted furniture stays put, a little upkeep goes a long way. Here are a few tips worth knowing:
- Have sockets moved before the wardrobes go in
- Clear the wall where the wardrobes will go before fitting day
- Tell us about the lift and stairs in your block
- In a leasehold flat, read the lease first
Fill the rails gradually and spread the weight along them instead of crowding one section. Heavy coats are best on a short rail or near a support, so the rail stays straight.
Don’t dry washing inside a wardrobe or in the bedroom with the doors shut, as the extra moisture can lead to condensation. Opening a window now and then helps.
What it costs
Not every room costs the same, and it comes down to:
- How big the furniture is
- The finish: spray painted or hand painted
- How many doors and drawers there are
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
How it’s painted is part of the price: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.
Before the design visit
Getting a few details early makes the visit more useful. Where you can, include:
- Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
- Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
- How you want to use the space
A quote begins with a few details from you: the room, rough sizes and some pictures if you have them. To send them, get in touch through our contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and discuss the design, then send a quote in writing.
Yiewsley homes and fitted wardrobes
About 45% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Yiewsley went up between 1945 and 1972, and about 27% between 1973 and 1999, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how fitted wardrobes are fixed and fitted. Near the centre of Yiewsley, Historic England’s list includes White Hart Public House (Grade II), about 0.5 miles north. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, can need listed building consent. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. Parking controls in London are set borough by borough, so Hillingdon has its own. Where a street in Yiewsley is controlled, a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension from the council. Let us know about parking at the design visit.
Living in a block of flats near Southall station? Then it helps to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day. For families living near Brookside Primary School, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller.

What prompts fitted wardrobes in Yiewsley
For some, it’s about a calmer room. A single run of painted doors looks tidier than mixed furniture and keeps everything out of sight.
Here’s what fitted wardrobes can help with:
- Dusty space on top of the wardrobe
- A sloping ceiling that’s hard to use
- Several odd pieces where one run of storage would do
- A room too narrow for hinged doors
Close to Northala Fields? Keeping fitted wardrobes off the window wall keeps the room bright.
What to check before you book
- Are the boards named, like MDF or plywood?
- Is it spray painted or hand painted?
- Can you see real work of theirs?
- Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?

Flats, leases and landlords
If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so each section is sized to get through.
Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too, often to make the most of a small or tricky room. It is made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work.
