Fitted wardrobes in West Twyford
Loft conversions, common in London terraces, often leave sloping ceilings. We can shape a wardrobe to follow the ceiling line, with long hanging at the tall end and shelves or drawers where it gets lower. Space that’s hard to use otherwise becomes useful storage. We make fitted wardrobes from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and the things people most often want solved are a room too narrow for hinged doors and clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms.
A loft conversion is a common way to add a bedroom to a semi or an interwar house, and that slope can be used for storage built to the angle. Around West Twyford, interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up a large part of the housing. Our part starts once the loft has been converted, with each piece scribed to the slope and set level.
The furniture is made at our workshop after you’ve had the quote and decided to go ahead. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so you can check every detail beforehand.

What it costs
Prices vary from room to room, and it comes down to:
- Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
- Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
- How big the furniture is
- Spray painting or hand painting
Every room is priced on its own, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. You’ll see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.
What to send when you get in touch
These details help when you get in touch:
- Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
- Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
- Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
- Where you live, with the postcode
We quote once we have seen the room. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and discuss the design with you, and the written quote comes after. Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. To book a design visit, get in touch through our contact form.
From workshop to your room
When we arrive on fitting day, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. Next, we carry in the sections built in our workshop, one at a time. How long the fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and your quote sets out the fitting days. In a 1920s or 1930s house, the hall and stairs are normally straightforward, but the route in is still measured, not just the room. Fitted wardrobes arrive in sections and are assembled in place.
- You get in touch about fitted wardrobes for your bedroom.
- We visit to measure up and plan the doors, rails, shelves and drawers with you.
- We send a written quote with the layout, materials and finish, ready for you to read through.
- The wardrobes are made in sections in our workshop.
- We fit them in your home, scribe them to the walls and hang the doors. The rails, shelves and drawers go in last.
How to prepare
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
- Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
How to get a quote
To make a start, send us a few details through our contact form and tell us a little about the room and roughly what you’d like. From there, we arrange a design visit to measure up and talk through your ideas, and a written quote follows.
Advice
Could you do it yourself?
Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that are not square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, and standard units leave gaps.
Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it’s easy to buy.
What we do not do
It is worth being clear about where our work stops:
- Taking out a chimney breast to make space
- Electrical work, like moving sockets or switches, which is for your electrician
- Converting a loft (we build storage in lofts that are already converted)
If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can get in touch through our contact form and we will give you a straight answer. Our process from visit to fitting.
Boards, parts and finishes
- Hinged or sliding doors
- Hand-painted finish
- Hanging rails, shelves and drawers
- Spray-painted finish
- Moisture-resistant MDF
- Birch plywood
Flats, blocks and rented homes
Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too. It’s made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work.
Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Let us know about it when you get in touch.

Fitted wardrobes for homes in West Twyford
In the neighbourhood around West Twyford, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 49%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 19%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. A conservation area lies within about a quarter of a mile of the centre of West Twyford, according to Historic England’s records. Planning controls in conservation areas are mainly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitting furniture inside a house does not normally need permission. If you want to be certain, ask the council’s planning team. Controlled parking zones are common across London, and Ealing sets its own rules. Where a street in West Twyford is controlled, a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension from the council. We ask about parking during the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.
The wider area includes historic houses like Pitzhanger Manor, about 1.8 miles south-west. If your own home is a period one, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design. If you live near St. Raphael's Edible Garden, fitted wardrobes are typically planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay. If you live in a period home close to Church of St Mary, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go.

FAQs: fitted wardrobes in West Twyford
Is West Twyford in the area you cover for fitted wardrobes?
Yes. West Twyford is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Ealing and London. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with some details.
I live in a flat in West Twyford. How will the furniture get up the stairs?
We measure the route in not just the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. Fitted wardrobes are made at our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.
Who chooses the colour?
You choose it. The paint colour is agreed with you.
How is the inside of the wardrobe planned?
You choose the mix of hanging, shelves and drawers. It can include long and double hanging, shelves, drawers and space for shoes, in the proportions you need. We plan it with you when we visit.
How long are you in the house for fitting?
It depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and your quote sets out the fitting days. The making happens in our workshop before we come to fit them.
Hinged or sliding doors: which suits my bedroom?
It depends on the room. Hinged doors open a whole section at once but need room in front to swing; sliding doors suit narrow rooms, though only part of the inside is open at once. We’ll help you weigh them up when we visit.
