Fitted wardrobes in Acton Green

About our fitted wardrobes in Acton Green

Doors can be hinged or sliding. Hinged doors open a whole section at once. Sliding doors suit tighter rooms, but only part of the inside is open at any one time. Which suits your room is something we talk through when we visit. We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and people most often get in touch about clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms and musty smells in a wardrobe on a cold wall.

With a large share of homes around Acton Green built before 1919, many bedrooms sit against solid brick external walls. Those walls can be colder than internal ones, so wardrobes and storage on them are designed with ventilation behind and inside to help avoid condensation. Smaller back bedrooms in houses of that age are good places for fitted wardrobes.

You get the quote in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and talk it over at home. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

Is bespoke worth it?

Getting a big standalone wardrobe into a flat or up a tight stair can be difficult. Our wardrobes are made in sections sized to get up the stairs, into the lift and through the doors, then put together in the room. Off-the-shelf furniture is made for flat walls and level floors, which older houses rarely have, so you end up with gaps, wobbles and units that don’t meet the skirting. Fitted pieces follow the wall and sit level.

Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

Bedroom storage in Acton Green

The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Acton Green were built before 1919 (about 51%) and since 2000 (about 22%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Near the centre of Acton Green, Historic England’s list includes Church of St Michael and All Angels (Grade II*), about 0.5 miles south-east, and Voysey House (Grade II*), about 0.6 miles south. If your own home is listed, internal works that affect its character, such as fixing into or removing original joinery, can need listed building consent. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. About 51% of homes in the streets around Acton Green were built before 1919, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Older bedrooms normally have alcoves and tall ceilings, both of which fitted wardrobes can use.

If you live near Turnham Green, a bedroom facing the green is best kept light, with the furniture on the side walls. The wider area includes historic houses such as Hogarth's House, about 0.9 miles south. For a period home anywhere nearby, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go. If your home is one of the older houses near All Saints, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice.

Questions we are often asked

Will a conservation area stop me having fitted wardrobes fitted in Acton Green?

Usually not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can require listed building consent from the council. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.

My home in Acton Green is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?

At the design visit, we measure the way in as well as the room. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It is useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

How long will the fitting take?

The fitting depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. The wardrobes are made in our workshop first.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Let us know when you first get in touch, and we will see what we can do.

Can you add sockets inside the units?

No. Any new wiring, sockets or lights need an electrician. We’ll design around them.

How much will my fitted wardrobe cost?

Size, doors and drawers, what goes inside and the finish all affect it, along with access and parking. The price comes in a quote in writing after the design visit.

What it costs

When we put a quote together, we consider:

  • The internal fittings
  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
  • How many doors and drawers there are
  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted

There is no price list, because each job is designed for a single room. Instead, we measure, discuss the design and then quote in writing, naming the materials and finish. To start, drop us a line using the contact form.

Getting in touch

To give us a picture of the room, it’s useful to include:

  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
  • Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • Any ideas or images you’ve saved

Every quote follows a design visit. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, and the written quote comes after. The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. To arrange a visit, use our contact form.

What happens on fitting day

When the fitting is done, we tidy the room and lift the floor protection. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. Original hallway tiles and old floorboards are worth protecting, so they’re covered before anything comes in. Drilling into lath and plaster is done with care, so the plaster around stays sound. Any decorating around the new pieces is for your decorator.

  1. You get in touch and let us know about the bedroom, including any slopes, windows or alcoves.
  2. We visit to measure the room and go through the design.
  3. You receive a quote in writing setting out the wardrobes, doors and finish.
  4. We make the carcasses, doors and drawers in our workshop, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit them in your home, levelled and scribed to the walls. A hand-painted finish, if you chose one, is done on site.

Preparing the room

  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
  • Empty the space we will be working in

Advice

Flats, blocks and rented homes

We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let, as it makes good use of an tricky room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, unloading takes some planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so let us know about it at the design visit.
