How we make fitted home offices for Seven Sisters

A fitted home office gives your work a proper place in the house. Our home offices are made for spare rooms, alcoves, landings and loft rooms, planned around how you work. For a home in Seven Sisters, it starts with a design visit to measure and talk it through. Most enquiries start with a guest room that’s needed for work and a desk buried under papers; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.

A desk has to be level even when the floor isn’t, and in a house from before 1919 that means levelling and scribing at the base. Around Seven Sisters, a large share of homes date from before 1919, so it’s something we plan for from the start. Shelves above are scribed to the wall so the gaps stay even.

The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. The finish is stated too, whether that’s spray painting or hand painting.

Pricing fitted home offices in Seven Sisters

What you pay depends on:

  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
  • How big the furniture is
  • How many doors and drawers there are
  • Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension

The finish affects the cost: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

What we need to know

Before the design visit, it helps us to know about:

  • Rough sizes: width, height and depth
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling

Every quote follows a design visit. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, then send a quote in writing. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. To arrange a visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

Before and after fitting day

None of this takes much effort. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Choose a calm colour for a working room
  • Mention any parking rules on your street
  • Think about what you’d like on show
  • Note the position of sockets in the room

Load shelves evenly, with heavier books and files at the ends near the supports. It helps shelves stay straight. The shelves are made for what you said you’d keep on them.

Keep cables in their routes rather than pulled across the desk. Tight cables can mark edges over time. A little tidying now and then keeps the office calm.

Working from home in Seven Sisters

In the area around Seven Sisters, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 54%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 14%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. That matters for home offices, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Within a mile of the centre of Seven Sisters, 8 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. The Ultra Low Emission Zone has covered all of London since it reached the outer boroughs on 29 August 2023. It applies to every van that comes to fit furniture in Seven Sisters. Access and parking are talked through at the design visit.

Near listed buildings like Church of St Bartholomew, under half a mile south-east of the centre of Seven Sisters, older homes may keep original joinery that home offices can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. Bruce Castle, about 1.2 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, an alcove beside the chimney breast is often just right for a built-in desk. For an older house near Church of Holy Trinity, a small back bedroom can become a home office with a desk under the window.

Could you do it yourself?

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can use the full height and width.

Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well.

Your questions about fitted home offices in Seven Sisters

My house in Seven Sisters is Victorian. Can you deal with uneven walls?

Yes, that is normal in older houses: each piece is scribed to the wall and levelled at the base. We also work around skirting boards, picture rails and cornices. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whether solid brick or lath and plaster.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Seven Sisters station?

Yes. We cover all of Haringey and the rest of London. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

Someone needs to be there to let us in. You do not need to watch us work.

Can you add power points to the desk?

Sockets and wiring are for your electrician, not us. The desk is planned with routes for cables and space for any sockets. We can agree where sockets should go when we visit.

Does my lease affect fitted furniture?

Possibly. It depends on your lease, and some need consent for alterations. We can’t give advice on your lease.

Can you build a home office in an alcove?

It depends on the width and depth of the alcove. Lots of alcoves suit a small desk, with shelves and storage around it. We measure and give an honest view during the design visit.

What happens on fitting day

When the fitting is done, we tidy the room. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together and explain how to look after the paint. How long fitting takes depends on the layout and how many pieces make up the office, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Parking on terraced streets can be tight, particularly in a controlled parking zone, so details of permits, bays and any loading restrictions help. The van is unloaded quickly, with the sections carried straight in. Saturday fitting can be arranged.

  1. It starts when you get in touch about a home office.
  2. At the design visit, we look at the room, the window and your equipment, and plan where the cables will run.
  3. Your quote sets out the design, the materials and the finish.
  4. Your office furniture is built in our workshop, sized for the room.
  5. We fit it in your home and leave it ready for work.
