- Knocking through or opening up rooms
- New sockets, data points or wiring, which are for your electrician
- Installing IT equipment or broadband
If in doubt, you can drop us a line using the contact form and describe the room. Our process from visit to fitting.

About our fitted home offices in Earl's Court
An alcove beside a chimney breast can take a neat desk with shelves above. We scribe the desk and shelving to the alcove walls, which are rarely straight. The opposite alcove can carry shelves or a cupboard to match. It makes a working corner that suits the room, in Earl's Court or anywhere else. Most enquiries start with wires with no tidy route and wanting to close the door on work at the end of the day, and the answer is made in our workshop from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
In streets where many homes were built before 1919, as they were around Earl's Court, the spare room in a period house is often small, with a sash window and a chimney breast. Home offices can make that room work, with the desk under the window or across an alcove. We plan where cables run, leaving any new wiring to your electrician.
A quote in writing is the clearest record of what we have agreed. It describes the home office we’ve designed for the room, what it is made from and how it’s finished.

Is it time for fitted home offices?
Many people get in touch because they now work from home, at least part of the week. A kitchen table or a corner of the bedroom soon stops working. A fitted home office gives work a proper place.
A few of the things people ask us to solve include:
- A spare room that has to be an office and a guest room
- Shelving that bows under the load
- Working at the kitchen table
- Wires with no tidy route
Living in a block of flats near West Brompton station? Then the route in is measured not just the room, and the sections are sized to fit it.
Before you choose who makes it
- Whether they can show you real projects they’ve done
- How they handle walls that aren’t straight
- Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from
- Will the quote be in writing?
Common questions about fitted home offices
Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?
Normally not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, changes inside that alter its character can require listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Do you make fitted home offices for homes in Earl's Court?
Yes, Earl's Court is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Kensington and Chelsea and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and go through the design, and then we send a quote.
Do I need to be in when you fit?
We need access, so someone has to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work, but it helps to be around at the end.
What if the stairs or lift are small?
Getting it in is planned at the measuring visit. The stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways are measured, and each section is made to a size that will get through.
Do I get to choose the colour?
The choice is yours, and we agree it with you before the furniture is finished. Whichever finish you pick, it’s in the colour you have chosen.
Should I send pictures?
Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space, especially with rough sizes. To send them, use our contact form.
Fitted home offices in Earl's Court: local notes
The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Earl's Court were built before 1919 (about 72%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 9%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. The centre of Earl's Court is within about a quarter of a mile of the Nevern Square Conservation Area. Being in a conservation area mainly affects changes to the outside of a building, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Your council can advise if you are unsure. Purpose-built flats are home to about 57% of households in the streets around Earl's Court, in the ONS Census 2021 figures. In a block, each section is sized to get up the stairs or into the lift and through the door. Many blocks have rules on lift booking and working hours, so check with the managing agent before fitting day.
Garden Lodge, about 0.3 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, a small back bedroom can become a home office with a desk under the window. Near listed buildings like Church of St Cuthbert and St Matthias, under half a mile west of the centre of Earl's Court, older homes may keep original joinery that home offices can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can need listed building consent.
Earl's Court is about 1 mile north-west of Kensington, part of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. We can visit homes in Earl's Court on weekdays, or on a Saturday by prior arrangement. Across Kensington and Chelsea, we cover Earl's Court.
In W14, W8 and SW5, the process is the same as anywhere else in London. Streets in the area include Sun Road, Star Road and Rich Lane, and we cover homes on all of them for fitted home offices. The A3218 and A3220 run close to Earl's Court; on busy main roads, unloading home offices takes a little planning. Nearby, we also make fitted home offices in West Brompton (1 mile south), South Kensington (1 mile east), Little Chelsea (1 mile south-east), World's End (1 mile south-east) and Walham Green (1 mile south). Across the rest of Kensington and Chelsea, our area takes in Notting Dale (2 miles north), Kensal Town (2 miles north) and North Kensington (3 miles north-west).

For a walk, there is Campden Hill and The Long Water.
Materials and finishes
Doors and drawer fronts
We make the fronts from moisture-resistant MDF and finish them in the colour you choose. Panels can echo the woodwork in an older room. The gaps are kept even all along.
Birch plywood
Birch plywood is made in layers, which makes it strong and stable. It goes into the desk, the carcasses and the drawers, with the edge either shown or painted.
Before and after fitting day
New paint needs time to cure fully, so treat it gently at first. After that, a few simple habits help:
- Note what sits on and around your desk
- Estimate the shelf space you will need
- Bring paint colours you like to the design visit
- Check whether you’ll need new sockets
Small marks on a hand-painted finish can be touched in. Keep a note of the colour for later. Should you have a question about the office, tell us about the room on our contact form and we’ll help.
Keep cables in their routes rather than pulled across the desk. Wires pulled across an edge can wear it. A little tidying now and then keeps the office calm.
From workshop to your room
Finishing comes last. With a spray finish from the workshop, there is normally only filling and touching up to do in the room; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. Original hallway tiles and old floorboards are worth protecting, so they’re covered before anything comes in. Drilling into lath and plaster is done with care, so the plaster around stays sound. Any decorating around the new pieces is for your decorator.
- It starts with a short note from you about the space.
- At the design visit we plan the office and measure the route in: stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways. It’s useful to let us know about parking, as much of London has controlled parking zones.
- We send a written quote.
- We build the office in our workshop, in sections, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We carry the sections in, assemble them in the room and fit them, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
How to prepare
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
- Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
How to get a quote
To make a start, drop us a line using the contact form and let us know which room you have in mind and roughly what you’d like. We then arrange a design visit to measure and talk through the design, and a quote in writing follows.
