Fitted home offices in Kensal Town
Questions from Kensal Town
Can you fit fitted home offices to the uneven walls of an older house in Kensal Town?
Yes. Walls in older houses are rarely flat or square, and floors are often out of level, so each piece is scribed to follow the wall and set level on a plinth or adjustable feet. We also work around skirting boards, picture rails and cornices. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whether solid brick or lath and plaster.
Is parking a problem for fitting in Kensal Town?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.
Do you cover Kensal Town?
Yes. We cover Kensal Town and the rest of Kensington and Chelsea. To get a quote, drop us a line using the contact form.
Can a home office double as a guest room?
That depends on the space you have. A compact office along one wall can leave the rest of the room for a bed. At the design visit, we will suggest what works.
Do you make the furniture yourselves?
Everything is made in our workshop for your room, then brought to your home and fitted. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
Does my lease affect fitted furniture?
Possibly. It depends on your lease, and some need consent for alterations. We cannot give advice on your lease, so it’s worth checking before fitting day.
How we make fitted home offices for Kensal Town
We make each home office in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, which suits desks and long shelves, and MDF gives the doors and panels a smooth surface for paint. It’s then spray-painted or hand-painted and fitted in your home in Kensal Town. People normally come to us about no way to put work away and a guest room that’s needed for work; the furniture is made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
A large share of the homes around Kensal Town were built before 1919, and houses of that age often have alcoves either side of a chimney breast. A desk can sit in an alcove, with shelving above and a cupboard below. The pieces are scribed to walls that wander and levelled on floors that slope.
Our quotes are written in plain words. They say what will be made, what it is made from and how it will be finished.

Do you need fitted home offices in Kensal Town?
Keeping work in its own space is a common wish. A desk with doors, or an office in a spare room, lets you close the door on work. It helps the home feel restful after hours.
Here are some of the needs we’re asked about most:
- Shelving that bows under the load
- Wanting to close the door on work at the end of the day
- Files and folders piling up
- No proper place to work from home

Questions to ask before you hire anyone
- How they handle walls that aren’t straight
- Whether they measure the room themselves
- Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from
- Can you see real work of theirs?
Before and after fitting day
Most of what helps is simple. What we’d suggest:
- Let us know about parking near your home
- Let us know about every device that needs a home
- Think about matching the woodwork or the walls
- Look at the window and where the light falls
Before we leave, we check every drawer, door and shelf with you. The cable routes are pointed out so you know where everything goes. You’ll be ready to set up your desk.
Every so often, look at the handles and hinges. A loose screw is easy to tighten before it works loose. If a door drops or a drawer catches, send us a few details through our contact form and tell us.
Built-in desks and shelving in Kensal Town
In the streets around Kensal Town, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 54%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 17%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Near the centre of Kensal Town, Historic England’s list includes Trellick Tower Cheltenham Estate (Grade II*), less than half a mile east, and Kensal House (Grade II*), under half a mile west. For a listed home, changes inside that alter its character may need listed building consent from the council, for example removing or fixing into original panelling. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. Controlled parking zones cover much of inner London, and each borough runs its own. So a van fitting furniture in Kensal Town normally needs a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension arranged through the council. Parking is worth mentioning at the measuring visit, so the day can be planned around it.
If you live in a flat close to Queens Park (London) station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in. If you live in a period home close to St Thomas Kensal Town, lath-and-plaster walls need the right fixings for shelves above a desk.

How fitting works for fitted home offices
The last stage of the day is the finish. With a spray finish from the workshop, there’s normally only filling and touching up to do in the room; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. On fitting day in an older house, the main job is scribing to walls and levelling on floors that slope, so each piece is trimmed and adjusted on site. We protect the floors and keep dust to a minimum. It is useful to tell us about parking at the design visit, as terraced streets are often busy.
- You get in touch with a few details about the room and the home it’s in.
- At the design visit we plan the office and measure the route in: stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways. It’s useful to let us know about parking, as much of London has controlled parking zones.
- A written quote follows, covering the design, materials and finish.
- We build the office in our workshop, in sections, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The sections are brought in, joined and scribed to the walls, ready for work.
Before fitting day
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
- Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
- Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
Ask for a quote
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit. For a quote, fill in our short enquiry form.

When is bespoke worth it?
Cost matters, and it’s fair to say so: flat-pack is typically cheaper to buy. Bespoke earns its place where the room is awkward, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.
Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. That is something we plan for in the design.
What we don’t do
Our work is the furniture itself: designing it, making it in our workshop and fitting it. That means:
- Plastering and decorating around the office
- Knocking through or opening up rooms
- New sockets, data points or wiring, which are for your electrician
Not sure whether your space suits fitted home offices? You can tell us about the room on our contact form and we’ll tell you. How a job runs, step by step.
