What it’s made from
Moisture-resistant MDF
Because it cuts cleanly, MDF suits panels and angled pieces. We use a moisture-resistant grade, which is stable and takes paint well. Most of what you see is MDF.
Birch plywood
Birch plywood is made in layers, which makes it strong and stable. It goes into the desk, the carcasses and the drawers, and its edge can be left visible or painted.
Fitted home offices in Notting Dale
Storage keeps a home office calm. Drawers for stationery, cupboards for files and a printer, and shelves for books and folders, so the desk stays clear. Doors can hide the working things when you are done. We design the storage around your work, wherever you are in Notting Dale. If you are living with a tangle of chargers and leads and no proper place to work from home, home offices made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand can solve it.
With a large share of homes around Notting Dale built before 1919, a small back bedroom or the box room often becomes the office. A built-in desk, shelving and closed storage can fit even a modest room. We plan where cables run, leaving any new wiring to your electrician.
Once you have read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is built in our workshop. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so you can check every detail beforehand.

Flats, conversions and lettings
If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so let us know about it at the measuring visit.
If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations. We cannot advise on your lease, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.

Bespoke fitted home offices or ready-made?
Off-the-shelf desks come in the maker’s finishes. Ours is spray-painted or hand-painted in a colour agreed with you, so it sits with the rest of the room. The two recesses beside a chimney breast are seldom an identical size, and standard units bought as a pair rarely suit both. Fitted furniture is made to each one separately.
In London, parking can affect the price. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay. Tell us about parking at the design visit, so we can plan for it.

How fitting works for fitted home offices
When the fitting is done, we tidy the room and lift the floor protection. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together and explain how to look after the paint. How long the fitting takes depends on how much desk, shelving and storage you want, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Parking on terraced streets can be tight, particularly in a controlled parking zone, so details of permits, bays and any loading restrictions help. Unloading is kept short, with sections taken straight inside. Saturdays are possible by arrangement.
- To begin, use our contact form; a brief note on the room and your desk set-up is plenty.
- We visit to measure and plan the desk, shelves and storage, and look at where the light falls. New sockets or wiring are a job for your electrician, ideally before fitting.
- A quote in writing follows with the design, materials and finish.
- We make the desk and storage in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with cable holes and routes built in.
- The desk and shelves are fitted, with the cable routes ready for your equipment.
Preparing the room
- Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
- Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
Arranging a design visit
Every quote follows a design visit. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, then send a quote in writing. Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. To arrange a visit, message us from the contact page.

Working from home in Notting Dale
About 58% of the homes in the area around Notting Dale went up before 1919, and about 15% between 1973 and 1999, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Notting Dale include Cosmic House (Grade I), under half a mile south, and The Electric Cinema (Grade II*), less than half a mile east. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, can require listed building consent. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. The Ultra Low Emission Zone has covered all of London since it reached the outer boroughs on 29 August 2023. It applies to every van that comes to fit furniture in Notting Dale. Parking and access are planned at the design visit.
If your home is one of the older houses near Church of St Sava, a small back bedroom can become a home office with a desk under the window. For families living near Thomas Jones Primary School, a desk with shelves and closed storage can serve both work and homework. Sambourne House, about 1.1 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, lath-and-plaster walls need the right fixings for shelves above a desk.

What affects the price in Notting Dale
Each piece is designed for one room, so each price is too. The things that affect it are:
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
- Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
Tricky rooms take more time: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. The quote allows for it.
Before the design visit
To give us a picture of the room, it helps to include:
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
- Rough sizes: width, height and depth
- Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
- A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner

Your questions about fitted home offices in Notting Dale
I live near Shepherds Bush station. Is that in your area?
Yes. We cover all of Kensington and Chelsea and the rest of London. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Notting Dale?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit.
What does a built-in desk cost?
There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. It depends on how much furniture you want, the layout and the finish. For a quote, fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit.
Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?
There are two options: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. The finish is agreed in your quote.
What are your built-in desks made from?
Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish. Shelves are made to suit the load they’ll carry. Your quote confirms the materials and finish.
Is it possible to have an office and a guest bed in one room?
That depends on the space you have. A compact office along one wall can leave the rest of the room for a bed. We will look at the options at the design visit.
