Fitted home offices for your home in Hadley

How we make fitted home offices for Hadley

Planning the cables early is what keeps a home office tidy. Cable holes and routes are built into the desk and cupboards. Any new sockets are fitted by your electrician, with the furniture designed to suit. We look at the sockets when we visit in Hadley. We make home offices from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and people most often get in touch about a guest room that’s needed for work and shelving that bows under the load.

If you live in one of the interwar houses or semis around Hadley, a dining room or spare bedroom is often the room that has to double as an office. Cupboards that close over the desk let the room switch back when you’ve finished. Cable routes and the position of sockets are planned into the design.

Once you have read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is made in our workshop. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so you can check every detail beforehand.

From workshop to your room

With the carcasses fixed and level, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, and then we check it all again. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Fitting day means carrying in the sections, joining them and fitting them to the walls. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. It starts when you get in touch with some details about the space, including the equipment you use.
  2. We come to measure and work out where the desk, shelves and cable routes should go. New sockets are for your electrician, so it is useful to think about them early.
  3. A quote in writing follows, with the design, finish and fitting days set out, for you to read through.
  4. Your office furniture is built in our workshop and painted to your chosen colour, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit it in your home, scribed to the walls and set level.

Before fitting day

  • Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to
  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician in advance

Getting a quote

If you know what you want, say so; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. The design is talked through at the visit, once we’ve measured, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, get in touch through our contact form.

Advice

What fitted home offices cannot fix

Our work is the furniture itself: designing it, making it in our workshop and fitting it. In practice, that means:

  • New sockets, data points or wiring, which are for your electrician
  • Building a loft conversion, which is not our work
  • Painting the walls and ceiling

Not sure whether your space suits fitted home offices? You can message us from the contact page and we’ll tell you. How it works.

What it’s made from

  • Built-in desks
  • Birch plywood
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Cable routes
  • Filing drawers
  • Hand-painted finish

Is bespoke worth it?

Standalone office furniture can move with you, which suits a short stay. A fitted office stays with the house, and it uses the space in a way a standalone desk can’t. The right choice depends on how long you plan to stay. Off-the-shelf units come in set widths, so a run along a wall typically ends with a gap, so fitted furniture is made to the wall’s own length. It can use the full height too.

In London, parking can affect the price. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension. It’s useful to talk about parking at the design visit.

Questions from Hadley

Is Hadley in the area you cover for fitted home offices?

Yes. Hadley is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Barnet and London. To get started, you can send us a few details through our contact form with a few details.

Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?

Typically not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.

Which materials go into your home offices?

The office is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. The desk, shelves and drawer boxes are birch plywood, which is strong and holds screws well, and MDF takes paint well for the doors and panels. The finish is spray-painted or hand-painted.

Do you wire in sockets for the home office?

We don’t do electrical work, so sockets are for your electrician. The desk is planned with routes for cables and space for any sockets. We can agree where sockets should go when we visit.

Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?

It can be done with some care: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. We don’t treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.

Can a home office double as a guest room?

Often, yes. The desk, shelving and storage can be designed to leave room for a bed, or with doors that hide the desk away. If space is tight, a wall bed can be built in alongside.

Fitted home offices for homes in Hadley

The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Hadley were built before 1919 (about 42%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 25%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. That matters for home offices, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. There are 77 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Hadley. Original fireplaces, shutters and panelling are worth keeping where they survive, and the furniture can be designed around them rather than over them. London’s red routes are run by TfL, and stopping on them is tightly controlled. If your street in Hadley joins a main road, it’s worth telling us at the design visit. We can then plan where the van will stop.

If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Church of St John the Baptist, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. For an older house near Christ Church, lath-and-plaster walls need the right fixings for shelves above a desk. Close to King George's Fields (Monken Hadley)? A desk placed to make the most of daylight makes a big difference to a working day.

Practical tips

Fresh paintwork takes a while to cure fully, so treat it gently at first. After that, a few simple habits help:

  • Let us know about every device that needs a home
  • Think about matching the woodwork or the walls
  • Let us know about parking near your home
  • Consider your chair when planning the desk

If you are having new sockets fitted, your electrician can do that around the furniture as planned. It helps if they know where the cable routes are. Keeping cables in their routes keeps the desk tidy.

Every so often, look at the handles and hinges. A loose screw is easy to tighten before it works loose. If something stops working smoothly, fill in our short enquiry form and describe it.

How we price fitted home offices

The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. That depends on:

  • Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • How square the room is
  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted
  • How many doors and drawers there are

Access to the room makes a difference too. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying, and that is part of the price. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit.

Before the design visit

Getting a few details early makes the visit more useful. Where you can, include:

  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • How you want to use the space

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it, once the room is measured and the design talked through. For a quote, tell us about the room on our contact form.
