How we make fitted home offices for Edgware
Working from home is easier when the desk, shelves and storage are built for the job. Our home offices are made for spare rooms, alcoves, landings and loft rooms, planned around how you work. In Edgware, as everywhere we work, it begins with a visit to measure and plan. If your home has an awkward space with no furniture that fits and no proper place to work from home, home offices made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.
If you live in one of the interwar houses or semis around Edgware, a dining room or spare bedroom is often the room that has to double as an office. A built-in desk with doors that close over it lets the room go back to its other job at the end of the day. Cable routes and the position of sockets are planned into the design.
A written quote follows the design visit. It sets out the design we’ve talked through, the materials and the finish.

Tips worth knowing
Because fitted furniture stays put, a little upkeep goes a long way. Here are a few tips worth knowing:
- Note what sits on and around your desk
- Check whether you’ll need new sockets
- Think about what you’d like on show
- Notice where daylight falls at different times
Heavy files are best kept low or close to the supports. It helps shelves stay straight. The shelves are made for what you said you’d keep on them.
Check now and then that handles and hinges are tight. A loose screw is easy to tighten before it works loose. If something stops working smoothly, use our contact form and describe it.
Common questions about fitted home offices
Do you make fitted home offices for homes in Edgware?
Yes. Edgware is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Barnet and London. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Is parking a problem for fitting in Edgware?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It is useful to let us know about parking at the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.
What are your built-in desks made from?
The office is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. The desk, shelves and drawer boxes are birch plywood, which is strong and holds screws well, and MDF takes paint well for the doors and panels. The finish is spray-painted or hand-painted.
Is it possible to have a desk under the eaves?
Yes, where the loft has already been converted. We place the desk so you can sit and stand without hitting the slope, with storage built into the lower parts of the slope. The conversion itself isn’t our work.
Is it possible to have an office and a guest bed in one room?
That depends on the space you have. A compact office along one wall can leave the rest of the room for a bed. At the design visit, we will suggest what works.
Do I need to be at home on fitting day?
We need someone to let us in at the start of the day. It is good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.

Bespoke fitted home offices or ready-made?
Standalone office furniture can move with you, which suits a short stay. Fitted furniture stays put, and it makes more of the room. The right choice depends on how long you plan to stay. Off-the-shelf furniture comes in a few set depths, which may be too deep for one spot and too shallow for another. Fitted furniture is made to the depth the space can take.
Access to the room makes a difference too. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying, which the quote allows for. Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit.

What fitted home offices cannot fix
Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, and there are a few other limits too:
- New sockets, data points or wiring, which are for your electrician
- Building a loft conversion, which isn’t our work
- Setting up computers, screens or networks
If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer. How it works.

How fitting works for fitted home offices
Finishing comes last. With a spray finish from the workshop, there is typically only filling and touching up to do in the room; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. Semis and detached houses often have a front path or a side gate, which can make carrying in easier. Gates, paths and steps up to the door are part of the route we measure. Floors are covered from the door to the room.
- First you let us know about the room and what your work needs, including the equipment you use.
- We come to measure and work out where the desk, shelves and cable routes should go.
- You receive a written quote for the office we’ve discussed, for you to read through.
- We make every part in our workshop, sized for the room and the route in.
- The office is fitted in your home and checked, ready for work.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
How to get a quote

- Glare from a window on the screen
- A room with two jobs to do
- Cables trailing across the desk and floor
