Burnt Oak Fitted Home Offices

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. Our work on fitted home offices in Burnt Oak starts with a design visit, and everything is made at our workshop.

  • An awkward space with no furniture that fits
  • Shelving that bows under the load
  • A spare room that has to be an office and a guest room

Need fitted home offices in Burnt Oak?

What it costs

A few things affect what fitted furniture costs:

  • The number of doors and drawers
  • The width and height of the space
  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
  • Spray painting or hand painting

Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

Getting in touch

Some details help us understand the job before we visit. When you contact us, it is useful to send:

  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • Any ideas or images you have saved
  • Where you live, with the postcode

If you already have something in mind, tell us; if you do not, that’s fine, and we can work it out together. The design is talked through at the visit, once we’ve measured, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To arrange a visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

Fitted home offices for homes in Burnt Oak

Spare rooms are a natural choice for an office, though many still need space for guests. The office can be planned to leave space for a bed or a sofa, or with doors that close over the desk when you finish work. We will look at how the room is used when we visit in Burnt Oak. If your home has a guest room that’s needed for work and wanting to close the door on work at the end of the day, that’s what home offices are for, made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

In an area where interwar homes or semis make up much of the housing, as around Burnt Oak, if the loft has been converted, the space under the eaves can take a desk and storage. For lofts, we work in rooms already converted or boarded. Or a desk can sit in an alcove or a bay.

A written quote follows the design visit. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so it’s clear what’s included.

Doors and drawer fronts

A desk can sit behind doors, out of sight when you are done. It suits a room that also has to work as a guest room or living room. We will discuss the options during the design visit.

Spray-painted finish

A spray-painted finish works well on every part of the office. We do it in our workshop, where the finish can be kept even. Any paint colour agreed with you can be used.

From workshop to your room

There is not much for you to do on fitting day. Someone needs to let us in, and it helps to have the room cleared beforehand, as we’ll have talked about at the measuring visit. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. How long fitting takes depends on the layout and how many pieces make up the office, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Fitting day means carrying in the sections, joining them and fitting them to the walls. Spray-painted pieces come finished from the workshop, while hand painting can happen on site. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. You contact us about a home office in a spare room, alcove, landing or under the eaves.
  2. We visit to measure the space, including any slope, alcove or uneven wall.
  3. A written quote follows.
  4. Everything is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the office in your home, trimming the edges to follow the walls and ceiling.
  6. Your spray-painted or hand-painted finish completes the office.

Before fitting day

  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are
  • Empty the space we’ll be working in
  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway

Your questions about fitted home offices in Burnt Oak

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Burnt Oak?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit.

Do you make fitted home offices for homes in Burnt Oak?

Yes. We cover all of Barnet and the rest of London, and Burnt Oak is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and go through the design, followed by a quote.

Which materials go into your home offices?

Our home offices are made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then painted. Shelves are made to suit the load they’ll carry. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.

Can you add power points to the desk?

That is work for your electrician. The furniture is designed to suit, with routes for chargers and screens. Your electrician can then fit them as planned.

Can you fit a desk under a sloping ceiling?

Yes, in a converted loft room. We plan around the headroom, so you can stand at the desk. Lower areas can take cupboards and shelves.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

Someone needs to be there to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work, but it’s useful to be around at the end.

What prompts fitted home offices in Burnt Oak

Clutter on the desk is a common reason to get in touch. Built-in drawers, cupboards and shelving give everything a place. The desk stays clear for work.

A few of the things people ask us to solve include:

  • A room with two jobs to do
  • Cables trailing across the desk and floor
  • Glare from a window on the screen
  • Working at the kitchen table

If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as John Keble Church, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can need listed building consent.

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  • Whether the finish is set out in the quote
  • Who does any electrics, plumbing or gas work
  • Real projects you can actually look at
  • How parking will work on your street

Looking after your furniture

A few practical points help before and after fitting day. These are worth keeping in mind:

  • Check whether you’ll need new sockets
  • Let us know about parking near your home
  • Choose a calm colour for a working room
  • Estimate the shelf space you’ll need

Load shelves evenly, with heavier books and files at the ends near the supports. It helps shelves stay straight. The shelves are made for what you said you’d keep on them.

Do not overload shelves beyond what they were designed for. Shelves are made for the load you planned. Keep the weight spread along the shelf.

Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings. Parking controls in London are set borough by borough, so Barnet has its own. We ask about parking at the measuring visit, so the day can be planned around it.

If you live near Watling Park, a desk placed to make the most of daylight makes a big difference to a working day. If you live in a period home close to John Keble Church, a small back bedroom can become a home office with a desk under the window.
