Hendon Fitted Home Offices
Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. We make fitted home offices for homes in Hendon, each designed at a visit to your home.
- A screen that is hard to read by the window
- Wanting to close the door on work at the end of the day
- Flimsy shelves that won’t take the weight

About our fitted home offices in Hendon
In a period room, an alcove is often the right size for a compact desk. The desk and shelves are scribed to the alcove, as period walls are seldom flat. The other alcove can hold matching cupboards or bookshelves. It makes a working corner that suits the room, in Hendon or anywhere else. Most enquiries start with wanting to close the door on work at the end of the day and a spare room that has to be an office and a guest room, and the answer is made at our workshop from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
The bay window in a 1930s front room or bedroom gives good daylight for a desk, with shelving or cupboards along the walls beside it. Around Hendon, interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up a big part of the housing. A desk can follow the shape of the bay or bridge its opening, with a grille if there’s a radiator below.
A quote in writing follows the design visit. It sets out the design we’ve talked through, the materials and the finish.

Pricing fitted home offices in Hendon
To work out the quote, we look at:
- The number of doors and drawers
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
- What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
- Parking near your home
We do not publish set prices, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, go through the design and then quote in writing, naming the materials and finish. To start, get in touch through our contact form.
Helping us understand the room
Ahead of the design visit, we will normally ask about:
- Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
- Your postcode and the borough
- Any ideas or images you have saved
- How you want to use the space
To get a quote for fitted home offices in Hendon, use our contact form. Tell us which room it is and roughly what you have in mind, with sizes if you have them. Next comes a design visit, followed by a written quote.

Is bespoke worth it?
Off-the-shelf desks and shelving are made for flat walls and standard sizes. In an awkward space, standard pieces leave gaps. Bespoke furniture is made to the room and fits it. It costs more than flat-pack furniture, and what you get is an office that fits. Off-the-shelf furniture comes in a few set depths, so they can stick out too far or waste space behind. Fitted furniture is made to the depth the space can take.
Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size comes first. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.

Flats, leases and landlords
We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let, often to make the most of a small or awkward room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a spray or hand-painted finish.
For flats on red routes or busy main roads, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so let us know about it during the design visit.
Fitting day, step by step
If anything comes up on the day, just ask. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully and leaving everything tidy. How long fitting takes depends on the layout and how many pieces make up the office, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. A front path or side gate can make the carry from the van simpler. We measure the path, any steps and the front door as part of the route. Floors, stairs and doorways are protected on the way in.
- It starts when you get in touch with some details about the space, including the equipment you use.
- At the design visit we measure, look at the light and the sockets and plan the layout with you. New sockets are for your electrician, so it is useful to think about them early.
- We send a quote in writing setting out the design, materials and finish, for you to read through.
- We make every part in our workshop, sized for the room and the route in, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit it in your home, scribed to the walls and set level, with cable routes left clear.
Before fitting day
- Empty the space we’ll be working in
- Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician ahead of time
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
Arranging a design visit
Rough sizes are fine at the start. We measure everything properly at the measuring visit, along with the walls, floor and ceiling. To get started, use our contact form with a few details about the room. You receive a written quote after the visit.

Doors and drawer fronts
We make the fronts from moisture-resistant MDF and finish them in the colour you choose. Panels can echo the woodwork in an older room. The gaps are kept even all along.
Hand-painted finish
Hand painting can be done on site once the office is in. It’s easy to touch up if it gets marked. That suits a desk that sees daily use.
Common questions about fitted home offices
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Hendon station?
Yes. We cover all of Barnet and the rest of London. To get started, you can message us from the contact page with some details about the room.
Is Hendon in the area you cover for fitted home offices?
Yes. We cover all of Barnet and the rest of London, and Hendon is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.
How do you get the furniture up the stairs?
We plan the route in during the design visit. The stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways are measured, and each section is made to a size that will get through.
How is the furniture painted?
There are two options: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. Your quote sets out which you’ve chosen.
Do photos help?
Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit, along with rough sizes. Show anything the furniture has to work around, such as radiators or sockets.
Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?
It needs a little planning: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. Damp treatment is not something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.
Fitted home offices for homes in Hendon
The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Hendon were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 45%) and before 1919 (about 20%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Hendon include Parish Church of St Mary (Grade II*), about 0.5 miles north-west, and Church Farmhouse Museum (Grade II*), about 0.5 miles north-west. Where a home is listed, listed building consent can be needed for inside works that affect its character, like fixing into original panelling. It’s worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. Since the zone was extended to the outer boroughs in August 2023, the whole of London has been inside the ULEZ. Vans bringing furniture to Hendon fall under it, just as they do across the rest of London. Parking and access are planned at the measuring visit.
If you live near Hendon Park, a desk facing a window makes the most of the daylight. The wider area includes historic houses such as Heath Hall, about 2.3 miles east. For a period home anywhere nearby, lath-and-plaster walls need the right fixings for shelves above a desk. For families living near Hendon School, closed cupboards above a desk keep work papers and school books apart.
