Fitted home offices designed for your room
Why bespoke in Harlesden?
Standard shelving can sag under the weight of books and files. Span, depth and load all matter. We size the shelves for what they’ll carry, using birch plywood where strength is needed. Recesses in older houses come in every size except the standard ones, so off-the-shelf pieces either do not fit or leave a gap either side. Made for the space, the furniture uses the full width and height.
Every room is priced on its own, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. You will see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.
What you get with us

About our fitted home offices in Harlesden
Each home office is built in our workshop, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood gives the desk and shelving their strength, while MDF takes paint well for the doors and panels. It’s then spray-painted or hand-painted and fitted in your home in Harlesden. We make home offices from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a room with two jobs to do and glare from a window on the screen.
A desk has to be level even when the floor isn’t, so desks in older homes are levelled on site. A large share of the homes around Harlesden were built before 1919, so levelling is part of the plan from the first visit. Shelves above are scribed to the wall so the gaps stay even.
Our quotes are written in plain words, without jargon. You will see what will be made, the boards used and the finish, taken from what we agreed at the visit.

Your questions about fitted home offices in Harlesden
Does a conservation area in or near Harlesden affect fitted furniture?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.
I live near Willesden Junction station. Is that in your area?
Yes. We cover all of Brent and the rest of London. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with a few details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?
That is normal in older homes, and it’s what scribing is for. We scribe the edges to follow the wall and set the furniture level on adjustable feet or a plinth.
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Just mention it when you contact us, and we’ll see what we can do.
Do I choose the paint colour?
The choice is yours. Whichever finish you pick, it’s in the colour you’ve chosen.
What materials do you use for home offices?
Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish. Long shelves are sized to carry books and files without sagging. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.
Where other trades come in
Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, and there are a few other limits too:
- Installing IT equipment or broadband
- Building a loft conversion, which is not our work
- Any wiring or new lights, which need an electrician
If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and we will give you a straight answer. How it works.
What goes into it
- Filing drawers
- Built-in desks
- Hand-painted finish
- Moisture-resistant MDF
- Cable routes
- Birch plywood
- Spray-painted finish
How fitting day works
Once the main sections are fixed in place, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, then checked again. How long the fitting takes depends on how much desk, shelving and storage you want, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Hallways in period houses are often narrow, and the stairs turn sharply, so home offices are made in sections sized to get through. Floors, stairs and doorways are covered before anything is carried through, and the sections are joined and scribed in the room.
- You contact us about a home office in a spare room, alcove, landing or under the eaves.
- At the design visit we measure up and plan a desk and storage that follow the shape of the room.

Preparing the room
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room

What it’s made from
Moisture-resistant MDF
Moisture-resistant MDF is stable and takes paint well. It is used for the doors, fronts and side panels, where the finish is most on show.
Spray-painted finish
Spraying gives a smooth, even surface. We spray in the workshop, so the finish is complete before fitting. The colour is agreed with you.
Fitted home offices in Harlesden: local notes
The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Harlesden were built before 1919 (about 52%) and since 2000 (about 32%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. That matters for home offices, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Harlesden include Church of All Souls (Grade II*), less than half a mile south, and Church of Our Lady of Willesden (Grade II), less than half a mile west. If your own home is listed, works inside that affect its character, like fixing into or removing original joinery, may need listed building consent. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. Around a third of the homes in the area around Harlesden (about 32%) were built since 2000, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Newer homes often have a compact second bedroom that doubles as an office, so a desk that closes away helps.
If you live near Roundwood Park, a desk placed to make the most of daylight makes a big difference to a working day. For a family home near John Keble CofE Primary School, a desk long enough for two can serve a laptop and a homework book side by side. If you live in a flat close to Willesden Junction station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in.

What affects the cost of fitted home offices
A few things affect what fitted furniture costs:
- How many doors and drawers there are
- How big the furniture is
- Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
Parking is part of the price picture in London. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension. It’s useful to talk about parking at the design visit.
What to send when you contact us
To give us a picture of the room, it is useful to include:
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
- Approximate measurements of the space
- The postcode, so we can plan the visit
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
Every quote follows a design visit. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and talk through the design with you, and the written quote comes after. There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. To book a design visit, use our contact form.
