Fitted home offices designed for your room

Fitted home offices in Stonebridge

A good home office has a place for everything. Drawers for stationery, cupboards for files and a printer, and shelves for books and folders, so the work surface stays clear. Doors can hide the working things when you’re done. We design the storage around your work, wherever you are in Stonebridge. Most enquiries start with paperwork and files with nowhere to go and a room with two jobs to do; the furniture is made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.

Shelving over a desk on a plasterboard wall needs fixings into the studs or made for the board. With many homes around Stonebridge built since 2000, that is something we check during the design visit. Tall cupboards stand on the floor and are tied back.

The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the home office we have designed for the room, what it’s made from and how it’s finished, and it is what the workshop builds to.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that are not square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, and standard units leave gaps.

If you’re handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.

Home working in Stonebridge: local notes

About 36% of the homes in the streets around Stonebridge went up since 2000, and about 28% before 1919, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Stonebridge is partly covered by a conservation area, according to Historic England’s records. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If in doubt, the council’s planning team can confirm. Red routes are run by TfL, with tight limits on where and when vehicles can stop. If your home in Stonebridge is on or near a main road, tell us during the design visit. We can then plan where the van will stop.

The wider area includes historic houses such as Pitzhanger Manor, about 2.8 miles south-west. For a period home anywhere nearby, a small back bedroom can become a home office with a desk under the window. For families living near The Stonebridge School, a built-in desk can be shared between home working and homework. For an older house near Saint Michael and All Angels, a small back bedroom can become a home office with a desk under the window.

Flats, conversions and lettings

If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, which is worth sorting early. We can’t advise on your lease, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.

Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them during the design visit, so fitting day is planned around them.

Common questions about fitted home offices

Does a conservation area in or near Stonebridge affect fitted furniture?

Typically not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, internal works that affect its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.

Is Stonebridge in the area you cover for fitted home offices?

Yes. We cover all of Brent and the rest of London, and Stonebridge is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, and then we send a quote.

Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?

External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture, which helps avoid condensation and mould. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.

Do photos help?

Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space. You can send them when you send us a few details through our contact form.

Who chooses the colour?

You choose it. The paint colour is agreed with you before anything is painted.

What if the stairs or lift are small?

Getting it in is planned at the measuring visit. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doors, and the furniture is made in sections sized to get through.

Why bespoke in Stonebridge?

Off-the-shelf desks and shelving are made for flat walls and standard sizes. In an alcove, a landing or under the eaves, that leaves gaps and wasted space. Bespoke furniture is made to the room and fits it. It costs more than flat-pack furniture, and what you get is an office that fits. Standalone furniture fixed to plasterboard needs the right fixings, and often does not get them. Fitted furniture is planned with fixings into the studs or made for the board, and heavy pieces can stand on the floor.

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size is the starting point. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.

Pricing fitted home offices in Stonebridge

A few things affect what fitted furniture costs:

  • The number of doors and drawers
  • Parking and unloading on your street
  • How square the room is
  • The internal fittings

No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.

What to send when you contact us

These details help when you get in touch:

  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • Examples of the look you’re after
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on

For a quote for fitted home offices in Stonebridge, tell us about the room on our contact form. Let us know the room and the rough idea, plus any rough sizes. Next comes a design visit, followed by a written quote.

What happens on fitting day

Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth, and that keeps the doors and shelves true. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Newer blocks often have concierge desks, entry systems and rules on lift booking, so it helps to sort them out in advance. Home offices are made in sections sized for the lift and doors.

  1. It starts when you get in touch about a home office.
  2. We visit to measure and talk about the equipment you use.
  3. Your quote sets out the design, the materials and the finish.
  4. We make the desk, shelves and cupboards in our workshop.
  5. The office is fitted and set level, ready for your first day at the desk, with the cable routes left open.

How to prepare

  • Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
  • Let us know about parking near your home
  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
