Fitted home offices for your home in Old Oak Common
About our fitted home offices in Old Oak Common
A fitted home office gives your work a proper place in the house. We design and make built-in desks, shelving and storage for spare rooms, alcoves, landings and the space under the eaves, planned around how you work. For a home in Old Oak Common, it starts with a design visit to measure and talk it through. If you’re living with an alcove or landing that could take a desk and a laptop that moves from room to room, home offices made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish can solve it.
A large share of the homes around Old Oak Common date from 2000 onwards, and open-plan living spaces are common in newer homes. In an open-plan room, a desk behind doors keeps work out of sight in the evening. Lift and delivery rules in a managed block are worth checking early.
The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it is easier before the furniture is made.

Before and after fitting day
Painted fitted furniture is easy to look after. A few things help it stay looking good:
- Decide how much should be open shelving and how much behind doors
- Think about where the sockets are now
- Let us know about parking at the design visit
- Choose a calm colour for a working room
A soft, damp cloth is the best way to keep the furniture clean. Avoid scourers and harsh cleaners. The desk edge is touched most, so give it a wipe now and then.
Keep cables in their routes rather than pulled across the desk. Tight cables can mark edges over time. A little tidying now and then keeps the office calm.
Your questions about fitted home offices in Old Oak Common
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Willesden Junction station?
Yes. We cover all of Hammersmith and Fulham and the rest of London. To get started, you can send us a few details through our contact form with some details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Does a conservation area in or near Old Oak Common affect fitted furniture?
Normally not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can require listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Who chooses the colour?
You do. We agree the colour with you.
What happens when you come to measure?
We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and a written quote follows.
Which materials go into your home offices?
We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. The desk, shelves and drawer boxes are birch plywood, which is strong and holds screws well, while the doors and panels are MDF, which paints well. The finish is spray-painted or hand-painted.
How is the furniture painted?
There are two choices: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. The finish is agreed in your quote.
What fitted home offices cannot fix
Electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering and structural work aren’t part of what we do. There are a few other points to bear in mind:
- Making good the walls, which is for a plasterer or decorator
- Knocking through or opening up rooms
- Building a loft conversion, which is not our work

Working from home in Old Oak Common
The biggest shares of homes in the area around Old Oak Common were built since 2000 (about 42%) and before 1919 (about 32%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. That matters for home offices, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Part of Old Oak Common is in a conservation area, according to Historic England’s records. Being in a conservation area mainly affects changes to the outside of a building, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If you want to be certain, ask the council’s planning team. Purpose-built flats are home to about 44% of households in the area around Old Oak Common, according to Census 2021. In a block, each section is sized to get up the stairs or into the lift and through the door. Building management rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours are worth checking early.

From workshop to your room
When we arrive on fitting day, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. The sections built in our workshop come in next. How long the fitting takes depends on how much desk, shelving and storage you want, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Newer blocks often have concierge desks, entry systems and rules on lift booking, so it helps to sort them out in advance. Home offices are made in sections sized for the lift and doors.
- You get in touch and tell us about the work you do and the equipment you use.
- At the design visit we measure the room, agree the desk height and depth and plan cable routes to the sockets. New sockets or wiring are a job for your electrician, ideally before fitting.
- You receive a quote in writing for the office.
- We make the desk and storage in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with cable holes and routes built in.
- The desk and shelves are fitted, with the cable routes ready for your equipment.
Preparing the room
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
- Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
Arranging a design visit
Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, when we’ve measured up and talked through the design. For a quote, fill in our short enquiry form.

Doors and drawer fronts
We make the fronts from moisture-resistant MDF and finish them in the colour you choose. Panels can echo the woodwork in an older room. The lines are kept neat and even.
Moisture-resistant MDF
Moisture-resistant MDF is stable and takes paint well. It is used for the doors, fronts and side panels, where a smooth, even finish matters.
Is it time for fitted home offices?
A spare room that has to do two jobs is another reason. A built-in desk and storage can leave space for a bed. It makes the most of a room that’s only sometimes used for guests.
Requests we hear often include:
- A room with two jobs to do
- Work things on show in the evening
- Working at the kitchen table
- Paperwork and files with nowhere to go
For an older house near Church of Eritrean Orthodox Brent, an alcove beside the chimney breast is often just right for a built-in desk.

- Whether you will get a written quote, not just a figure
