What affects the cost of fitted home offices

To work out the quote, we look at:

  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted
  • Parking near your home
  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
  • Doors and drawers, and how many

Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. A larger piece means more material and more time, so size is the starting point. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.

Before the design visit

What helps most when you first contact us:

  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • What you’d like to store or use the space for
  • Whether it’s a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift

Rough sizes are fine at the start. We measure everything properly during the design visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To arrange it, message us from the contact page with a few details about the room. The written quote follows the visit.

Fitted home offices in St Helier

Planning the cables early is what keeps a home office tidy. Cable holes and routes are built into the desk and cupboards. Any new sockets are fitted by your electrician, with the furniture designed to suit. We look at the sockets when we visit in St Helier. We make home offices from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the things people most often want solved are an awkward space with no furniture that fits and no proper place to work from home.

A compact desk under the stairs or on a landing suits someone who works from home now and then. Around St Helier, where interwar homes and semis are a big part of the housing, a landing or the space below the stairs could hold a compact desk. Cupboards with doors keep files and the printer out of sight. Any meters or fuse board stay easy to get to.

A written quote is the clearest record of what we have agreed. It describes the home office we have designed for the room, what it’s made from and how it’s finished, and it’s what the workshop builds to.

How fitting day works

Every fitting follows the same order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. A front path or side gate can make the carry from the van simpler. We measure the path, any steps and the front door as part of the route. Floors are covered from the door to the room, and the sections are assembled in place.

  1. You get in touch with some details about the room and the home it’s in.
  2. At the design visit we plan the office and measure the route in: stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways.
  3. A written quote follows, covering the design, materials and finish.
  4. The desk and shelving are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections that fit the route.
  5. The sections are brought in, joined and scribed to the walls, ready for work.

How to prepare

  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are
  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day

Arranging a design visit

If you know what you want, say so; if you do not, that’s fine, and we can work it out together. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To start, use our contact form.

Materials and finishes

Pull-out drawers

Drawers can form a pedestal under the desk. Leave knee room in the middle. We plan it at the measuring visit.

Shelves

Shelving over the desk keeps reference books close. Deeper shelves lower down can take a printer or files. The design visit is where depths are agreed.

Is bespoke worth it?

Bespoke furniture lets the desk, shelves and cupboards be planned together. Separate off-the-shelf pieces seldom match in height or depth. A single design gives the room clean, consistent lines. Off-the-shelf units come in set widths, so a run along a wall usually ends with a gap, so fitted furniture is made to the wall’s own length. It can use the full height too.

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

Why us?

  • A design visit, then a written quote
  • Spray painted or hand painted, in the colour you choose
  • Saturday work by arrangement
  • Built around your room

Your questions about fitted home offices in St Helier

Is St Helier in the area you cover for fitted home offices?

Yes, we work across Sutton, St Helier included, and across the rest of London. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Will a conservation area stop me having fitted home offices fitted in St Helier?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can require listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

Should I send photos?

Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit. Show anything the furniture has to work around, like radiators or sockets.

Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?

You can choose between two finishes: by spray or by hand. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, by arrangement. Let us know when you get in touch if a Saturday suits you best.

How long will the home office fitting take?

How long fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. We make the desk and storage in our workshop, so the time at your home is spent fitting. If you’d like the fitting on a Saturday, that can be arranged.

Flats, leases and landlords

If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through.

Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. We choose fixings to suit the wall.

Fitted home offices for homes in St Helier

In the neighbourhood around St Helier, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 69%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 10%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how home offices are fixed and fitted. Near the centre of St Helier, Historic England’s list includes Mecca Bingo Club (Grade II), under half a mile north-west, and Hill House (Grade II), less than half a mile north. For a listed home, internal works that affect its character can require listed building consent from the council, for example removing or fixing into original panelling. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. London’s red routes are run by TfL, and stopping on them is tightly controlled. Where a home in St Helier is on or beside a main road, it is useful to mention that at the design visit. Then we can work out where to load and unload.

For an older house near St Peter's Church, a small back bedroom can become a home office with a desk under the window. Living in a block of flats near Sutton Common station? Then the route in is measured along with the room itself, and the sections are sized to fit it. For families living near Tweeddale Primary School, closed cupboards above a desk keep work papers and school books apart.
