Fitted home offices for homes in Stratford

A good home office has a place for everything. We can plan drawers, file storage, a cupboard for the printer and shelving, so the work surface stays clear. Doors can hide the working things when you are done. For a home in Stratford, we design it all around what you need to store. We make home offices from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the usual reasons to get in touch are glare from a window on the screen and an awkward space with no furniture that fits.

Big windows in newer homes bring plenty of light, and sometimes glare on a screen, so the desk position is worth thinking about. Many homes around Stratford date from 2000 onwards, and we look at the light during the design visit. A desk side-on to the window often works best.

The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If something isn’t quite right, tell us before anything is made.

Your questions about fitted home offices in Stratford

Do you cover homes near Stratford (London) station?

Yes. We cover all of Newham and the rest of London. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Stratford?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.

Can I send photos before the visit?

Yes, they help. Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space. You can send them when you get in touch through our contact form.

How do you get large furniture into a flat?

It’s made in sections, sized for the route as well as the room. At the design visit, we measure the route not just the room.

What if my walls and floors are out of level?

Uneven walls are normal in older London homes, and the furniture is made to deal with them. Edges are scribed to the wall, and adjustable feet or a plinth bring the furniture up to level.

How long will the home office fitting take?

The time the fitting takes depends on how much desk, shelving and storage you want, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. We make the desk and storage in our workshop, so the time at your home is spent fitting. If you’d like the fitting on a Saturday, that can be arranged.

Flats, leases and landlords

In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of.

If the property is let, we’ll need access agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. An agent can arrange access for you, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.

Home working in Stratford: local notes

The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Stratford were built since 2000 (about 55%) and before 1919 (about 19%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Within a mile of the centre of Stratford, 4 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. More than half of the homes in the area around Stratford (about 55%) were built since 2000, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). In homes built since 2000, the spare room is often small and has to do two jobs.

For a flat near Stratford (London) station, the route in is measured not just the room, and the sections are sized to fit it. Sutton House, about 2.1 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, a small back bedroom can become a home office with a desk under the window.

Stratford is about 2 miles south-east of Plaistow, part of the London Borough of Newham. We work across all London boroughs and the City of London, and Stratford is part of that. Across Newham, we cover Stratford and the places around it.

Design visits and fitting in E15, E20 and E3 work the same way as everywhere else we cover. We cover homes on streets such as Gay Road, Cam Road and Eve Road, along with the roads around them, for fitted home offices and any of our other fitted furniture. Other places close to Stratford include Maryland (1 mile east), East Village (1 mile north-west), Temple Mills (1 mile north-west), West Ham (1 mile south-east) and Hackney Wick (1 mile west). Other parts of Newham we cover include Plaistow (2 miles south-east), Canning Town (2 miles south-east), East Ham (3 miles east), Upton Park (2 miles east), Greengate (2 miles south-east) and Plashet (2 miles east). Being one of the larger places in Newham, Stratford is covered for fitted home offices and everything else we make.

Is it time for fitted home offices?

Paperwork and files often have nowhere to go. Built-in drawers, cupboards and shelving give everything a place. It keeps the work surface clear.

Here are some of the needs we are asked about most:

  • A screen that is hard to read by the window
  • Working at the kitchen table
  • Work things on show in the evening
  • A guest room that is needed for work

Close to West Ham Park? A desk facing a window makes the most of the daylight.

Before you hire any carpenter

  • Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
  • Whether the quote follows a visit to your home
  • A written quote that sets out the job
  • How they handle walls that aren’t straight

Our checklist for choosing a carpenter

Caring for painted furniture

A little care keeps the finish looking good, whether it was spray painted or hand painted. Here are our suggestions:

  • Think about where the sockets are now
  • Think about matching the woodwork or the walls
  • List the equipment you use, from screens to printers
  • Let us know about parking at the design visit

Load shelves evenly, with heavier books and files at the ends near the supports. That keeps shelves straight over the years. We size them for what you told us you’d store.

Do not overload shelves beyond what they were designed for. We size shelves for what you told us they’d carry. Spread heavy books and files evenly.

Fitting day, step by step

Once the main sections are fixed in place, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, and then we check it all again. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Newer homes often have stud walls, so fixings go into the studs or use fixings made for the board. Floors are protected throughout, as many newer homes have finished floors that mark easily, and dust is kept to a minimum.

  1. It starts with a short note from you about the space.
  2. At the design visit we plan the office and measure the route in: stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways.
  3. We send a quote in writing.
  4. We build the office in our workshop, in sections, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The sections are brought in, joined and scribed to the walls, ready for work.

Before we arrive

  • Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to
  • Clear the area where the furniture is going
  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room

Starting with a design visit

It helps to see the room before we come. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space, along with rough measurements. To share them, fill in our short enquiry form, and we will suggest a time for a design visit.
