Fitted home offices in Newham: how it works
Storage keeps a home office calm. Drawers for stationery, cupboards for files and a printer, and shelves for books and folders, so the desk stays clear. Doors keep clutter out of sight at the end of the day. For a home in Newham, we design it all around what you need to store. Typical reasons to get in touch are a tangle of chargers and leads and an awkward space with no furniture that fits, and the answer is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.
In older rooms, the furniture normally has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site. How long the fitting takes depends on the layout and how many pieces make up the office, and your quote sets out the fitting days.
- You get in touch and let us know how you work and where you’d like the office.
- We visit to measure the room and go through the desk, shelving and storage.
- You receive a written quote for the office we’ve discussed.
- The desk, shelving and cupboards are made in our workshop.
- We fit it in your home, scribed to the walls and set level.
What goes into your quote
We do not publish set prices, because each job is designed for a single room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a quote in writing, with the materials and finish set out. To arrange a design visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

Every quote follows a design visit. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, then send a quote in writing. Working from home across Newham
Period homes in Newham often have alcoves just wide enough for a desk, and in newer flats a single wall in a spare room typically works. The design visit is where we compare the options.
About 37% of the homes in Newham went up before 1919, and about 29% since 2000, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. About 29% of homes in Newham were built since 2000, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Newer homes often have a compact second bedroom that doubles as an office. About 31% of households in Newham live in terraced houses, according to Census 2021. In a terrace, an alcove or the back bedroom often becomes the office.
In London, the route into a home matters as much as the room, so we look at both during the design visit.
Plaistow: If you live near Keir Hardie Park, a desk facing a window makes the most of the daylight. If you live in a flat close to West Ham station, it’s useful to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day.
How we price fitted home offices
We quote each job after the design visit, because no two rooms are the same. This is what makes the difference:
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
- How big the furniture is
- Parking near your home
The finish affects the cost: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.
What to send when you get in touch
Getting a few details early makes the visit more useful. Where you can, include:
- A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
- Approximate measurements of the space
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
You don’t need exact measurements to get started. We measure everything properly during the design visit, along with the walls, floor and ceiling. To get started, tell us about the room on our contact form. You receive a quote in writing after the visit.
Made for the room, or bought in a box?
A standalone desk can go with you when you move. A fitted office stays with the house, and it uses the space in a way a standalone desk cannot. The right choice depends on how long you plan to stay.
Before you hire any carpenter
- Have they thought about parking near you?
- Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
- Whether they can show you real projects they’ve done
- Whether the quote follows a visit to your home
The problems fitted home offices solve
The most common reason is working from home. The kitchen table works for a while, then it does not. A fitted home office gives work a proper place.
Typical reasons people contact us include:
- A screen that is hard to read by the window
- Working at the kitchen table
- Files and folders piling up
- A room with two jobs to do
Where other trades come in
We make and fit furniture, and we do not do electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering or structural work. Please bear these in mind too:
- Installing IT equipment or broadband
- Any wiring or new lights, which need an electrician
- Converting a loft to make room for an office
Materials and finishes
Moisture-resistant MDF
Moisture-resistant MDF is stable and takes paint well. It suits doors, drawer fronts and panels, where a smooth, even finish matters.
Hand-painted finish
A hand-painted finish can be applied once the furniture is in place. Marks can be touched in without much trouble. Paint needs time to cure fully, so treat it gently at first.
Your questions about fitted home offices in Newham
Who chooses the colour?
The choice is yours. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you have chosen.
Do you cover areas outside London?
No. We only take on work in London, across all the boroughs and the City of London.
Do you make the furniture yourselves?
It is made in our workshop, to the design and sizes agreed after the design visit. Then we bring it to your home and fit it.
Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?
Uneven walls are normal in older London homes, and the furniture is made to deal with them. Edges are scribed to the wall, and adjustable feet or a plinth bring the furniture up to level.
Is it possible to have a desk under the eaves?
Yes, in a converted loft room. Headroom is the main thing to plan around, so the desk sits where you can stand up. Lower areas can take cupboards and shelves.
Do you wire in sockets for the home office?
We don’t do electrical work, so sockets are for your electrician. We design the desk with cable routes and leave room where sockets will go. We can agree where sockets should go when we visit.
Will you paint the walls around the furniture?
No. We don’t plaster or decorate, so any work on the walls is for a plasterer or decorator. The furniture is finished by spray or by hand, as agreed in your quote.
