When you need someone else
Before you plan the job, it’s useful to know what we do not do:
- Any wiring or new lights, which need an electrician
- Changes to the structure of the house
- Painting the walls and ceiling
If in doubt, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and describe the room. Our process from visit to fitting.
What it is made from
- Spray-painted finish
- Cable routes
- Moisture-resistant MDF
- Hand-painted finish
- Filing drawers
- Birch plywood
- Built-in desks

Landings and the space under the eaves can also take a desk. Under a slope, the desk is placed where there is headroom to sit and stand. On a landing, it has to leave room to walk by. We measure and plan for the space you have in West Ealing. If your home has wanting to close the door on work at the end of the day and an alcove or landing that could take a desk, home offices made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish can solve it.
Older homes tend to have generous ceiling heights, and a large share of the homes around West Ealing date from then. That leaves room for shelving above a desk right up to the picture rail or cornice. Lath-and-plaster walls need suitable fixings, especially for loaded shelves.
Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. The finish is stated too, whether that is spray painting or hand painting.

What affects the price in West Ealing
Several things affect the price:
- How many doors and drawers there are
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
- Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
- Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
Parking is part of the price picture in London. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay near your home. It helps to talk about parking at the design visit, so it can be planned.
What we need to know
When you contact us, these help most:
- Your postcode and the borough
- The type of home and how the room is reached
- Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
A quote begins with a few details from you: which room it is, rough sizes and a couple of photos if you can take them. To send them, drop us a line using the contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and talk through the design, then send a written quote.
FAQs: fitted home offices in West Ealing
Is West Ealing in the area you cover for fitted home offices?
Yes. We cover all of Ealing and the rest of London, and West Ealing is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and go through the design, and then we send a quote.
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in West Ealing?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It’s useful to let us know about parking at the measuring visit, so we can plan the day around it.
How is the furniture painted?
There are two options: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. The finish is agreed in your quote.
Can I send pictures before the visit?
Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit, along with rough measurements. Show anything the furniture has to work around, like radiators or sockets.
How much does a fitted home office cost?
We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. A simple desk with shelves involves less work than a full wall of cupboards and drawers. Everything is set out in a quote in writing after the visit.
Does fitted furniture need planning permission?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, and furniture inside a house does not normally need it. Listed buildings are different: check with the council’s conservation officer first.
Why bespoke in West Ealing?
Off-the-shelf desks and shelving are made for flat walls and standard sizes. In an alcove, a landing or under the eaves, that leaves gaps and wasted space. A fitted home office is designed for the room and scribed to the walls. It is a bigger investment, and the gain is a workspace that uses the room well. Standard units assume square rooms, and period homes seldom have them, so you end up with gaps, wobbles and units that don’t meet the skirting. Fitted furniture is scribed to the wall instead.
No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. You’ll see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.

What happens on fitting day
Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Parking on terraced streets can be tight, particularly in a controlled parking zone, so it helps to tell us during the design visit what’s outside. Unloading is kept short, with sections taken straight inside. Saturdays are possible by prior arrangement.
- First we hear about your work and the room you have in mind.
- At the design visit, the room is measured and the layout planned.
- We agree the desk, shelving and storage, and send a written quote.
- The office is made in our workshop and painted in your colour. The materials are moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The office is fitted, scribed to the walls and checked with you. The cable routes are left ready to use.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
How to get a quote
There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, once the room is measured and the design talked through. For a quote, fill in our short enquiry form.

Fitted home offices for homes in West Ealing
Homes built before 1919 make up about 53% of the housing in the neighbourhood around West Ealing, with about 21% built since 2000, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. The centre of West Ealing is within about a quarter of a mile of the Hanwell Clock Tower Conservation Area. Conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Your council can advise if you’re unsure. TfL’s red routes have strict stopping rules. If your home is on or just off a main road, it is useful to mention it. We can then plan where the van will stop.
If you live in a period home close to St Mary's Cathedral, a small back bedroom can become a home office with a desk under the window. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Church of St Mary, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent.

The problems fitted home offices solve
Some homes have an awkward space that could become an office. Standard desks seldom fit an alcove or a slope. A desk made for the space puts it to good use.
Common reasons to get in touch include:
- Paperwork and files with nowhere to go
- Cables trailing across the desk and floor
- A screen that’s hard to read by the window
- Working at the kitchen table
For a flat near Hanwell station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room.
Choosing a carpenter
- Is it spray painted or hand painted?
- Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
- Whether they measure the room themselves
- Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
