Our fitted wardrobes across W7
In older bedrooms, the chimney breast alcoves are often the obvious place for clothes. A pair of alcove wardrobes keeps the chimney breast as a feature, scribed to follow the uneven walls. Picture rails and cornices can be met neatly or cut around. Most enquiries start with bedroom alcoves that could hold clothes and dusty space on top of the wardrobe, and the answer is built in our workshop from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
Every fitting follows the same order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and your quote sets out the fitting days.
- It starts when you let us know about the room, the floor it’s on and the wardrobes you want.
- At the design visit we plan the wardrobes with you and check the route in, including any lift or tight stair turn. Tell us about parking as well, as a van typically needs a permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension in much of London.
- A quote in writing follows with the design, materials and finish.
- The wardrobes are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections sized for the route we measured.
- We carry the sections up, join them in the room and scribe them to the walls and ceiling.
What affects the price in W7
Tricky rooms take more time: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. The quote allows for it, written once we have measured up.

Arranging a design visit
To get a quote, message us from the contact page and tell us a little about the room and roughly what you’d like. From there, we arrange a design visit to measure up and talk through your ideas, and send you a written quote afterwards.
Around Hanwell
The streets we cover here include those near St Joseph's Catholic Primary School, Church of St Mellitus and Kings Arms, among other places. Other landmarks nearby include Ealing Hospital (a few minutes’ walk west). Open spaces near Hanwell include Long Wood and Middle Lake.
Homes across W7 and their bedrooms
W7 has bedrooms of every shape, from bay-fronted rooms in older houses to tight rooms in modern flats. The design follows the room, not a catalogue, with the inside laid out around what you keep.
In the W7 postcode district, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 44%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 23%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. That matters for fitted wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. More than a third of the homes in W7 (about 44%) were built before 1919, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Older bedrooms typically have alcoves and tall ceilings, both of which fitted wardrobes can use. Of the 3 places we have local pages for in W7, 1 has its centre inside a conservation area, going by Historic England’s records. The rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission.
Controlled parking zones cover large parts of London, and depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed. It is useful to tell us about parking during the design visit.
Hanwell: If you live near Drayton Green, a bedroom facing the green is best kept light, with the furniture on the side walls. Pitzhanger Manor, about 1.3 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go.
How we price fitted wardrobes
Every room is different, so every job is quoted on its own. These are the things that affect it:
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
- Spray painting or hand painting
- Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.
Before the design visit
A little information at the start saves time later. If you can, send:
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
- Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
- Examples of the look you’re after
It helps to see the room before we come. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line give us a good feel for the space, along with rough sizes. To share them, get in touch through our contact form, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.
What it is made from
Spray-painted finish
A sprayed coat covers edges, corners and panels evenly and leaves no brush marks. The colour is agreed at the design stage.
Moisture-resistant MDF
MDF in a moisture-resistant grade is stable and paints evenly, which makes it ideal for wardrobe doors and visible panels. It suits bedrooms where the wardrobe sits on an external wall.
Flats, blocks and rented homes
If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so it’s worth raising during the design visit.
If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so each section is sized to get through without a struggle.
Do you need fitted wardrobes?
The usual reason is simple: there is not enough storage. Clothes end up on chairs, in boxes under the bed or in another room. A fitted wardrobe uses the full height of the wall, which adds a lot of space without taking more floor.
A few of the things people ask us to solve are these:
- Dusty space on top of the wardrobe
- Bedroom alcoves that could hold clothes
- Condensation behind a wardrobe on an outside wall
- A bedroom that never feels tidy
What we do not do
Electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering and structural work aren’t part of what we do. Please bear these in mind too:
- Any wiring or new sockets (your electrician handles those)
- Redecorating around the wardrobes
- Curing damp, which needs the right specialist
Your questions about fitted wardrobes in W7
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Just mention it when you get in touch, and we’ll see what we can do.
Will you paint the walls around the furniture?
No. We make, fit and finish the furniture, and plastering and decorating are for other trades. The furniture itself is spray painted or hand painted.
Is it OK to put a wardrobe on an outside wall?
Yes. Wardrobes on outside walls are designed with ventilation behind and inside, using moisture-resistant MDF. If there is damp on the wall already, it should be sorted first.
How do I get started?
Just drop us a line using the contact form. It’s useful to send rough sizes and a few pictures, and then we arrange a visit to measure and go through the design.
How do you get fitted wardrobes into a flat?
We plan the sections around the route into your flat. Let us know about any concierge or lift booking rules.
Where is the furniture made?
Each piece is built in our workshop for the room it’s going into, then fitted in your home. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
Do you work outside London?
No. Our work is in London only: every London borough and the City of London.
