Fitted Home Offices in West Wickham

In West Wickham, we design fitted home offices around the room you actually have. We design your home office at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.

  • A corner too odd for a standard desk
  • Wanting to close the door on work at the end of the day
  • Files and folders piling up

Flat-pack or bespoke?

Cost matters, and it’s fair to say so: flat-pack is typically cheaper to buy. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.

The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

Fitted home offices in West Wickham: what you get

Cables are easy to forget and hard to hide later. Cable holes and routes are built into the desk and cupboards. If you need new sockets, they’re for your electrician, and we plan the furniture around them. Talking it through at the measuring visit in West Wickham saves trouble later. We make home offices from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and people most often get in touch about glare from a window on the screen and a tangle of chargers and leads.

Detached and semi-detached houses can have more than one room that could be an office. Around West Wickham, a big part of the housing is interwar, semi-detached or detached, so there may be a choice of rooms. Light, noise and where the broadband comes in all matter. We can look at the options together at the design visit.

After the design visit, we send you a quote in writing. It sets out the design we have talked through, the materials and the finish, so you know exactly what you’re getting.

Caring for painted furniture

Fresh paintwork takes a while to cure fully, so treat it gently at first. After that, a few simple habits help:

  • Look at the window and where the light falls
  • Let us know about every device that needs a home
  • Think about what will sit on the shelves
  • Think about the space you need to push back

Small marks on a hand-painted finish can be touched in. It’s worth keeping a record of the paint colour. If anything isn’t right with the furniture, use our contact form and we’ll talk it through.

A chair that bumps the desk can chip the paint. Ease the chair in rather than pushing it hard. Small chips on a hand-painted finish are easy to touch in.

What happens on fitting day

There is not much for you to do on fitting day. Someone needs to let us in, and the room should already be cleared, as we’ll have talked about at the measuring visit. After that, it is over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Semis and detached houses often have a front path or a side gate, which can make carrying in easier. Gates, paths and steps up to the door are part of the route we measure. Floors are covered from the door to the room.

  1. First we hear about your work and the room you have in mind.
  2. At the design visit, the room is measured and the layout planned. Cable routes are planned at this point.
  3. We agree the desk, shelving and storage, and send a written quote.
  4. The office is built in our workshop and painted in your colour. The materials are moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit it in your home and check every drawer and door with you. The cable routes are left ready to use.

Before fitting day

  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way

Ask for a quote

It’s useful to see the room before we come. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space, along with rough measurements. To share them, fill in our short enquiry form, and we’ll arrange a design visit.

Where other trades come in

Electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering and structural work aren’t part of what we do. Please bear these in mind too:

  • Building a loft conversion, which is not our work
  • Plastering and decorating around the office
  • Changes to the structure of the house

Not sure whether your space suits fitted home offices? You can drop us a line using the contact form and we’ll tell you. How it works.

Materials and parts

Why bespoke in West Wickham?

Off-the-shelf desks leave you to work out the cables. A fitted desk can have routes built in for chargers, screens and printers. That keeps the desk and the floor tidy. Standard widths rarely add up to the length of a real wall, which fitted furniture avoids. It can use the full height too.

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. We will talk through what you need inside at the design visit.

Why choose us

  • Spray painted or hand painted, in the colour you choose
  • Saturdays by arrangement
  • We visit, measure and talk through the design before we quote
  • Fitted tight to walls that are not straight

Take a look at bespoke vs off-the-shelf and what a quote should include.

Fitted home offices in West Wickham: local notes

About 63% of the homes in the area around West Wickham went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 24% between 1945 and 1972, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. In a semi or detached house, a driveway, where there is one, can make unloading easier.

Near listed buildings like The Swan Public House, less than half a mile east of the centre of West Wickham, older homes may keep original joinery that home offices can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. The wider area includes historic houses such as Addington Palace, about 1.6 miles south-west. For a period home anywhere nearby, a small back bedroom can become a home office with a desk under the window. Questions we are often asked

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in West Wickham?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to let us know about parking at the measuring visit, and we’ll plan around it.

I live near West Wickham station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Bromley and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

What happens at the design visit?

We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, then send a written quote.

Can a home office go in a loft room?

Yes, where the loft has already been converted. We place the desk so you can sit and stand without hitting the slope, and the low space under the slope can hold storage. We don’t carry out loft conversions.

How long is the fitting for a home office?

The time the fitting takes depends on how much desk, shelving and storage you want, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. We make the desk and storage in our workshop, so the time at your home is spent fitting. If you’d like the fitting on a Saturday, that can be arranged.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, by arrangement. Tell us when you contact us if a Saturday suits you best.
