Fitted home offices for homes in Widmore
A fitted home office gives your work a proper place in the house. Our home offices are made for spare rooms, alcoves, landings and loft rooms, planned around how you work. For a home in Widmore, it starts with a design visit to measure and talk it through. If you are living with a corner too odd for a standard desk and glare from a window on the screen, home offices made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.
Wherever your home in Widmore sits in London’s mix of housing, the desk, shelves and storage are designed as one piece. We plan cable routes too, leaving new wiring to your electrician. Long shelves are sized so they don’t sag under files and books.
A written quote follows the design visit. It sets out the design we have talked through, the materials and the finish, so you know exactly what you’re getting.

How fitting day works
Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth. After that, it’s fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that is solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Parking varies a lot across London, from permit zones to private bays, so tell us what applies at the design visit. For a flat, building rules on lifts and working hours are worth checking.
- It starts with a short note from you about the space.
- At the design visit we plan the office and measure the route in: stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways.
- We send a written quote.
- We build the office in our workshop, in sections, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We carry the sections in, assemble them in the room and fit them, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
- Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician beforehand
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
Getting a quote
Getting a quote starts with a few details: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of photos if you can take them. To send them, get in touch through our contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and go through the design, then send a written quote.
Related advice
Caring for painted furniture
A few practical points help before and after fitting day. These are worth keeping in mind:
- Think about glare on your screen
- Think about what you’d like on show
- Mention any parking rules on your street
- Bring paint colours you like to the design visit
If you’re having new sockets fitted, your electrician can do that around the furniture as planned. Show them the cable routes so everything lines up. Keeping cables in their routes keeps the desk tidy.
Every so often, look at the handles and hinges. A loose screw is easy to tighten before it works loose. If something stops working smoothly, tell us about the room on our contact form and describe it.
Flats, conversions and lettings
Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them during the design visit.
In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through.

Where other trades come in
We make and fit furniture, and we do not do electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering or structural work. Please bear these in mind too:
- Building a loft conversion, which isn’t our work
- Painting the walls and ceiling
- Any wiring or new lights, which need an electrician
If in doubt, you can send us a few details through our contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

Questions we’re often asked
Do you make fitted home offices for homes in Widmore?
Yes, Widmore is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Bromley and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.
Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?
Typically not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can need listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
How is the furniture painted?
There are two options: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. The finish is agreed in your quote.
Do I need to be at home on fitting day?
We need someone to let us in at the start of the day. It’s good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.
Can the spare room be an office and a guest room?
Often, yes. The desk, shelving and storage can be designed to leave room for a bed, or with doors that close over the desk. A fold-down wall bed can also be built into the design.
How do you get large furniture into a flat?
We plan the route in at the measuring visit. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doors, and each section is made to a size that will get through.
What it’s made from
Pull-out drawers
Drawers under a desk keep stationery and papers to hand. A deep drawer can hold hanging files. We size each drawer to suit.
Birch plywood
We use birch plywood where strength matters. It suits desks, long shelves and drawer boxes. Its layered edge can be shown or painted.
Home working in Widmore: local notes
The biggest shares of homes in the area around Widmore were built before 1919 (about 33%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 25%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. 4 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of the centre of Widmore. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings. London’s red routes are run by TfL, and stopping on them is tightly controlled. If your home is on or just off a main road, it is useful to mention it. It lets us plan the stop before fitting day.
Near listed buildings like Church of St George, under half a mile north-east of the centre of Widmore, older homes may keep original joinery that home offices can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. Close to Jubilee Country Park? A desk placed to make the most of daylight makes a big difference to a working day. If your children go to Bullers Wood School for Boys or a school nearby, a desk with shelves and closed storage can serve both work and homework.
