Loft Storage in Brockley Hill

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. Our work on loft storage in Brockley Hill starts with a design visit, and everything is made at our workshop.

  • A boarded loft that’s hard to keep organised
  • Wasted space behind the knee walls
  • Furniture that cannot get up to the loft

Loft storage for your home in Brockley Hill

Loft storage in Brockley Hill

We make each eaves cupboard in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood gives the carcasses and drawers their strength, while MDF takes paint well for the doors and panels. Once painted, by spray or by hand, it is carried up and fitted in your home in Brockley Hill. If you are living with a dormer that isn’t being used and no wardrobe that fits under the slope, that’s what eaves cupboards are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.

Many homes around Brockley Hill date from the post-war decades. Post-war homes usually have squarer rooms and fewer nooks than period ones, so eaves cupboards often create the storage the house never had. Walls may be concrete, block or brick, so fixings are chosen for the wall.

The furniture is made in our workshop after you’ve had the quote and decided to go ahead. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so every detail can be checked first.

Could you do it yourself?

Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. That’s something we plan for in the design.

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s usually a gap left over at the top or at one end. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

Questions from Brockley Hill

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Elstree & Borehamwood station?

Yes, homes across Barnet and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

My home in Brockley Hill is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?

At the design visit, we measure the way in as well as the room. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it’s worth checking those early.

How is loft storage priced?

Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Drawers in the knee wall normally involve more work than simple cupboards, and the finish matters too. We set it all out in a written quote.

Do you carry out loft conversions?

No, the conversion itself is not our work. Our part is the storage once the loft is a finished room, from eaves cupboards to wardrobes under the slopes.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, by prior arrangement. Tell us when you get in touch if a Saturday suits you best.

What happens at the measuring visit?

We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and afterwards we send a written quote.

Storage in Brockley Hill homes: local notes

About 35% of the homes in the area around Brockley Hill went up between 1945 and 1972, and about 26% since 2000, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Near the centre of Brockley Hill, Historic England’s list includes Brockley Hill Farmhouse (Grade II), about 0.5 miles north-west. If your own home is listed, internal works that affect its character, such as fixing into or removing original joinery, may need listed building consent. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. About 49% of households in the streets around Brockley Hill live in purpose-built flats, according to Census 2021. In a block, each section is sized to get up the stairs or into the lift and through the door. Many blocks have rules on lift booking and working hours, so check with the managing agent before fitting day.

If your children go to London Academy or a school nearby, a place for each person’s coat and shoes stops the hallway filling up. If you live in a flat close to Elstree & Borehamwood station, the route in is measured not just the room, and the sections are sized to fit it. If your home is one of the older houses near St Peter, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using.

How fitting day works

The last stage of the day is the finish. With a spray finish from the workshop, there’s normally only filling and touching up to do in the room; hand painting, if that is what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. In a post-war house, the hall and stairs are normally straight and simple, so carrying in is rarely difficult. Even so, the route is measured at the design visit. The pieces are assembled, levelled and fixed in place.

  1. You let us know about your converted or boarded loft.
  2. At the design visit, the room and the route up are measured.
  3. We agree the cupboards, drawers and wardrobes, and send a quote in writing.
  4. Every part is made at our workshop, ready for a spray-painted or hand-painted finish. It is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The storage is fitted, scribed to the slopes and checked with you.

Preparing the room

  • Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to
  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day

How to get a quote

A quote begins with some details from you: the room, rough measurements and some photos if you have them. When you are ready, get in touch through our contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and go through the design, then send a quote in writing.

What it’s made from

Moisture-resistant MDF

Because it cuts cleanly, MDF is ideal for angled panels under the slope. The grade we use is moisture-resistant and paints well. It makes up most of the visible parts.

Spray-painted finish

A spray-painted finish is smooth and even. It’s done in our workshop before fitting. You choose the colour.

Flats, conversions and lettings

If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, unloading takes some planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so it’s worth raising at the measuring visit.

In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through.

Why bespoke in Brockley Hill?

If you only need a few boxes in a boarded loft, standalone shelving may be enough. Bespoke work makes sense in a converted loft room, where the storage is part of the room. At the design visit, we’ll tell you honestly which approach suits your loft. Off-the-shelf furniture tends to leave gaps at the ends of a wall and space above it, while fitted furniture fills the space. Every width is made for the room.

The finish affects the cost: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.
