Loft Storage in East Finchley

Loft storage in East Finchley: eaves cupboards, drawers and wardrobes in converted lofts. We visit to measure and talk through the design, make the furniture in our workshop and fit it.

  • Nowhere to store bags and boxes
  • Clothes with nowhere to go in a loft bedroom
  • Standard furniture that will not go up the loft stairs

Loft storage in East Finchley

Loft storage in East Finchley

The space behind the knee wall normally has insulation and ventilation to think about. We design the storage so it does not block airflow or crush insulation. If anything looks wrong behind the eaves, it’s worth asking whoever converted the loft. When we visit in East Finchley, we will see what’s there. We make eaves cupboards from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and the things people most often want solved are ready-made wardrobes too big for the stairs and needing storage in a loft office.

Older rooms often suit panelled doors, newer rooms plainer ones. Whatever your home in East Finchley is like, the door style is part of the design conversation. You choose the colour, spray-painted in the workshop or hand-painted on site.

If the job needs another trade, such as an electrician or a plumber, we will tell you, so it can be arranged before fitting day. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

How fitting works for loft storage

Furniture made in a workshop still has to meet the room it’s going into, and that happens on fitting day. Few walls in older London homes are truly flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it, closing the gaps a standard unit would leave. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. On fitting day, the sections are assembled, scribed to the walls and levelled. The fixings suit whatever the walls are made of. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

  1. You get in touch and describe the loft room, its slopes and any dormer.
  2. At the design visit we measure the knee walls and the angle of each slope at more than one point, as they’re rarely even.
  3. Your written quote sets out the storage and the finish.
  4. In our workshop we build each section from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood to follow the slope.
  5. On fitting day the units are set level and scribed to the slope and the knee wall, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

Preparing the room

  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
  • Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know

Starting with a design visit

Your questions about loft storage in East Finchley

I live near New Southgate station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Barnet and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.

Do you make loft storage for homes in East Finchley?

Yes. We cover all of Barnet and the rest of London, and East Finchley is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and go through the design, followed by a quote.

Do I need to be at home on fitting day?

Someone needs to let us in at the start of the day. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.

Should I send pictures?

Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot, particularly with rough sizes. To send them, drop us a line using the contact form.

What finishes do you offer?

There are two choices: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. The finish is agreed in your quote.

Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?

It is something we deal with all the time. The furniture is scribed to follow the walls and levelled on feet or a plinth.

Bespoke loft storage or ready-made?

A ready-made cupboard pushed into the eaves can block airflow. We plan the storage around what’s behind the knee wall. It helps keep the space in good order. Gaps behind, beside and above ready-made furniture collect dust, and fitted furniture closes them.

Every room is priced on its own, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. You’ll see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.

Why work with us in East Finchley

  • A design visit, then a quote in writing
  • Every London borough and the City of London covered
  • Scribed to uneven walls
  • A spray or hand-painted finish

Take a look at our comparison of bespoke and off-the-shelf and what a quote should include.

What it costs

There is no set price, because there is no set room. What affects it comes down to:

  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
  • Parking near your home
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
  • Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls

We don’t publish set prices, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, go through the design and then quote in writing, with the materials and finish set out. To start, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Helping us understand the room

To give us a picture of the room, it helps to include:

  • Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling

The quote is built from the design visit. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. A quote in writing follows the visit. To book one, message us from the contact page.

What we do not do

It’s worth being clear about where our work stops:

  • Building work to turn a loft into a room
  • Fixing damp or ventilation problems in the eaves
  • Anything that needs Building Regulations sign-off

If in doubt, you can message us from the contact page and describe the room. How a job runs, step by step.

Boards, parts and finishes

  • Hand-painted finish
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Eaves doors and drawers
  • Sloped wardrobe tops
  • Birch plywood
  • Spray-painted finish

Looking after your furniture

People planning loft storage often ask about these. They’re worth knowing whatever the room:

  • Decide whether you’d prefer drawers, cupboards or both
  • Think about what will go in each cupboard or drawer
  • Empty the eaves so we can see what’s behind
  • Think about hanging space for a loft bedroom

When you load the drawers and cupboards, put heavy things low. That keeps the drawers running smoothly. Shelves are made for what you told us you’d store.

Keep sharp or very heavy items away from the painted fronts. Put tools in a case so they do not knock the paint. A small chip on a hand-painted finish is easy to touch in.
