Loft storage for your home in Crews Hill
About our loft storage in Crews Hill
The low space behind a knee wall is often the most useful in the room. Cupboards and drawers set into the knee wall make that space useful. Pull-out drawers mean you don’t have to crawl in. We measure and plan for the space you have in Crews Hill. We make eaves cupboards from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about a sloping ceiling with no room for a wardrobe and ready-made wardrobes too big for the stairs.
Around Crews Hill, where many homes date from the post-war decades, windows are often wide, with radiators below. A window seat there needs a grille or an open front so the heat still reaches the room. Fitted storage can also use the hall, the landing or the space below the stairs, made to fit the room as it is.
The furniture is made at our workshop after you’ve had the quote and decided to go ahead. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so you can check every detail beforehand.

Tips worth knowing
These points come up often when people plan loft storage. They’re worth knowing before and after fitting:
- Find out what’s behind the eaves, from insulation to vents
- Count the clothes you will need to hang
- Decide whether you’d prefer drawers, cupboards or both
- Make room so the whole loft can be measured
Keep the ventilation behind the eaves clear. The storage is planned to keep airflow, so leave that space open. It helps keep the loft in good order.
Every so often, look at the handles and hinges. A loose screw is easy to tighten before it works loose. If something stops working smoothly, fill in our short enquiry form and describe it.
What affects the cost of loft storage
Every room is different, so every job is quoted on its own. This is what makes the difference:
- The width and height of the space
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
- Parking near your home
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size is the starting point. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.
Helping us understand the room
To give us a picture of the room, it’s useful to include:
- Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
- The type of home and how the room is reached
- How you want to use the space
- Any ideas or images you have saved
The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. Afterwards, we send a quote in writing. To arrange the visit, send us a few details through our contact form.
What it’s made from
Moisture-resistant MDF
In a loft, stability matters, and moisture-resistant MDF is stable. It gives a smooth base for paint. It forms the doors and panels.
Birch plywood
We use birch plywood where strength matters. It suits carcasses, drawer boxes and shelves. The edge can be left on show or painted.
How fitting day works
However carefully a piece is made in the workshop, it still has to meet the room, and that happens on fitting day. Few walls in older London homes are truly flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Stairwells in post-war blocks can have tight turns, so sections are sized for both the stairs and any lift. Where the building has a caretaker or managing agent, it helps to tell them before fitting day. We cover the floors in shared areas on the way in.
- It starts when you contact us about storage in your loft, whether it’s a converted room or a boarded space.
- At the design visit, we look at the slopes, the eaves and the way up.
- A quote in writing follows, with the fitting days agreed. You can ask us about any of it.
- We make the cupboards and drawers in our workshop, cut to the slope.
- We fit it in your home and leave it ready to use.
Before we arrive
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
- Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
- Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
How to get a quote
To make a start, fill in our short enquiry form and tell us a little about the room. We then arrange a design visit to measure and discuss the design, and a quote in writing follows.

Making use of awkward spaces in Crews Hill
Homes built between 1945 and 1972 make up about 36% of the housing in the area around Crews Hill, with about 34% built before 1919, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Crews Hill is partly covered by a conservation area, according to Historic England’s records. Planning controls in conservation areas are mainly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitting furniture inside a house does not normally need permission. If you’re unsure, check with the council before work starts. All of London, Enfield included, is inside the ULEZ. Vans bringing furniture to Crews Hill fall under it, just as they do across the rest of London. How the van gets to your door is planned at the measuring visit.
The wider area includes historic houses such as Forty Hall, about 1.5 miles south-east. If your own home is a period one, a dormer in a converted loft can hold shelves or a small desk. Near listed buildings like Glasgow Stud Farmhouse, under half a mile north of the centre of Crews Hill, older homes may keep original joinery that eaves cupboards can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. If your home is one of the older houses near Church of St John the Baptist, eaves cupboards in a converted loft are scribed to slopes that are rarely even.
Crews Hill is about 4 miles south-east of Edmonton, within the London Borough of Enfield. We cover Crews Hill as part of our work across Enfield, and the process is the same everywhere we work. We list Crews Hill among 26 places we cover in Enfield.

Common questions about loft storage
Does a conservation area in or near Crews Hill affect fitted furniture?
Usually not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can require listed building consent from the council. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.
Is Crews Hill in the area you cover for loft storage?
Yes. We cover all of Enfield and the rest of London, and Crews Hill is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.
How is loft storage priced?
Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. It depends on how much storage you want, the shape of the room and the finish. For a quote, message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.
Can a wardrobe follow a sloping ceiling?
Yes. A wardrobe made for the slope fits where a standard one can’t. The tall end takes hanging space, and the low end can hold shelves or drawers. It’s scribed to the slope and walls.
Will cupboards in the eaves stop air moving?
It shouldn’t, if it is designed properly. We design eaves storage so it does not block ventilation or squash insulation. If you have concerns about what’s already behind the eaves, it’s worth asking whoever converted the loft.
Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?
You can choose between two finishes: by spray or by hand. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it’s quick to buy.
Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s typically a gap left over at the top or at one end. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can use the full height and width.
