Loft Storage in New Southgate
Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. We make loft storage for homes in New Southgate, each designed at a visit to your home.
- A boarded loft that’s hard to keep organised
- A loft room that still feels unfinished
- Space under the eaves going to waste

Loft storage in New Southgate: what you get
A loft room can hold a great deal of storage, if the low spaces are used well. We design and make eaves cupboards, drawers in the knee walls, wardrobes under the slopes and shelves in dormers, all made for the shape of the room. In New Southgate, as everywhere we work, it begins with a visit to measure and plan. We make eaves cupboards from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and the usual reasons to get in touch are unused space in a dormer and no wardrobe that fits under the slope.
A deep cupboard can lose things at the back, so the design uses drawers, lids or shelves to bring things within reach. Whatever kind of home you have in New Southgate, the right answer depends on the depth and the height. Services like meters and boilers stay reachable.
The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the eaves cupboard we have designed for the room, its materials and its finish, and it is what the workshop builds to.

Flats, leases and landlords
Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too, often to make the most of a small or awkward room. It is made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work.
Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of, which we check at the measuring visit.
Made for the room, or bought in a box?
If you only need a few boxes in a boarded loft, standalone shelving may be enough. Bespoke work makes sense in a converted loft room, where the storage is part of the room. At the design visit, we will tell you honestly which approach suits your loft. Off-the-shelf furniture is designed for no room in particular, while fitted furniture is drawn for the room it goes into. It can be painted in a colour chosen for that room.
Awkward rooms take more time: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. The quote allows for it.

Your questions about loft storage in New Southgate
Can you make loft storage for a home in New Southgate?
Yes. New Southgate is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Enfield and London. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with some details.
Will a conservation area stop me having loft storage fitted in New Southgate?
Normally not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.
Do I need to be at home on fitting day?
We need someone to let us in at the start of the day. It’s good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.
What do you do at the measuring visit?
We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, and the written quote comes afterwards.
Do pictures help?
Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit. It is useful to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.
Do you do the electrics?
No. We are carpenters, so electrical work is for your electrician. We can plan cable routes into the design, and new sockets should be in place before fitting day.
What affects the price in New Southgate
When we put a quote together, we consider:
- How many doors and drawers there are
- Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
- Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension
- The internal fittings
No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.
Before the design visit
To give us a picture of the room, it helps to include:
- Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
- Your postcode and the borough
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
- Rough sizes: width, height and depth
If you know what you want, say so; if you do not, that is fine, and we can work it out together. The design is talked through at the visit, once we’ve measured, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To arrange a visit, message us from the contact page.

Looking after your furniture
Getting the most from loft storage starts with the planning and carries on after fitting day. These are worth keeping in mind:
- Find out what’s behind the eaves, from insulation to vents
- Note the things that need a home in the loft
- Think about hanging space for a loft bedroom
- Think about how you will reach into the eaves
Before we leave, we check every door and drawer with you. If there is an access door to the eaves, we make sure it opens fully. You’ll know it all works as it should.
Leave room for air to move behind the storage. Insulation pressed flat doesn’t do its job. If you notice damp or condensation behind the eaves, ask whoever converted the loft.
Fitting day, step by step
Furniture made in a workshop still has to meet the room it’s going into, and that happens on fitting day. Walls in older homes are rarely flat or square, so we scribe the edges by hand to follow the wall, until the line is tight. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and your quote sets out the fitting days. It helps to clear the room and the route in before fitting day, including anything on the walls near the work. Floors and doorways are protected before anything comes in. Sections are then carried in and assembled.
- You contact us about storage in your converted loft.
- We visit to measure the loft and the way up, including the top flight and any tight turn.
- We send a written quote.
- We build the storage in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, sized to get up to the loft.
- The sections go up the stairs, are assembled under the eaves and set level.
Before we arrive
- Keep pets in another room while we work
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager

Rough measurements are fine at the start. Everything is measured properly when we visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To arrange it, message us from the contact page. The written quote follows the visit.
