Loft storage for homes in Gordon Hill

In the area around Gordon Hill, the largest groups of homes date from between 1945 and 1972 (about 30%) and before 1919 (about 25%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Gordon Hill is partly covered by a conservation area, according to Historic England’s records. Fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission in a conservation area, as the controls are largely about how buildings look from outside. The council can confirm if you’re not sure. Parking controls in London are set borough by borough, so Enfield has its own. Where a street in Gordon Hill is controlled, a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension from the council. It is useful to let us know about parking at the design visit.

If you live near Enfield Town Park, eaves cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things. Living in a block of flats near Gordon Hill station? Then eaves cupboards are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room.

About our loft storage in Gordon Hill

A sloping ceiling leaves little room for a standard wardrobe. A wardrobe made for the slope follows its angle, with hanging where there’s height and shelves or drawers lower down. It makes the most of the room’s height. The design visit in Gordon Hill is where we work it out. People normally come to us about a loft room that still feels unfinished and furniture that can’t get up to the loft, and the answer is built in our workshop from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.

A good share of the homes around Gordon Hill were built between 1945 and the early 1970s. Post-war homes typically have squarer rooms and fewer nooks than period ones, so eaves cupboards often create the storage the house never had. The fixings are chosen for the wall, whether it’s concrete, blockwork or brick.

The quote comes in writing, so there is time to read it properly and talk it over at home. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

How it is made

Spray-painted finish

Spray painting gives the storage a very even surface. It is applied in our workshop, so treat it gently while it cures fully.

Birch plywood

Drawers in the knee wall can carry heavy things, from boxes to bedding. Birch plywood suits them, as it’s strong and holds screws well. It also suits long shelves.

Do you need loft storage in Gordon Hill?

A loft room used as an office or guest room often needs storage too. Built-in storage under the slopes keeps the room flexible.

If any of these sound familiar, it’s worth getting in touch:

  • A loft room with too many jobs
  • A loft room that still feels unfinished
  • Furniture that cannot get up to the loft
  • Boxes and suitcases with no home

If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as St Faith's Cottage, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.

Fitting day, step by step

Fitting day follows a set order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. The time the fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Stairwells in post-war blocks can have tight turns, so the size of each section is set by the stairs as well as the lift. Letting the caretaker or managing agent know in advance helps. We cover the floors in shared areas on the way in.

  1. It starts with a few details from you.
  2. We come to measure and talk through the design and finish.
  3. Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
  4. We make the cupboards and drawers in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit it in the loft and check each door and drawer with you.
  6. Fresh paint needs time to cure, so use the doors and drawers gently at first.

Pricing loft storage in Gordon Hill

The price for your room depends on:

  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
  • The width and height of the space
  • The internal fittings
  • How square the room is

In London, parking can affect the price. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay. Tell us about parking during the design visit, so we can plan for it.

Getting in touch

Getting some details early makes the visit more useful. If you can, send:

  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
  • What the furniture needs to hold

To make a start, use our contact form and let us know which room you have in mind and what you want the furniture to do. From there, we arrange a design visit to measure up and talk through your ideas, and a quote in writing follows.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

It’s worth being honest about cost: flat-pack is usually cheaper to buy. Bespoke earns its place where the room is tricky, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.

Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it’s quick to buy.
