Loft storage for your home in Edmonton

Why bespoke in Edmonton?

Ready-made furniture has to come up the loft stairs in one piece or flat-packed. Our storage is made in sections sized for the route. It means a full wardrobe can still reach the room. Standard widths and heights seldom suit an actual room, which leaves gaps at the sides and wasted space on top. Fitted furniture is made to the room.

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. We’ll talk through what you need inside at the measuring visit.

Why work with us in Edmonton

About our loft storage in Edmonton

We make each eaves cupboard in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, which suits drawer boxes and carcasses, while MDF takes paint well for the doors and panels. It’s then spray-painted or hand-painted and fitted in your home in Edmonton. If you are living with nowhere to store bags and boxes and needing storage in a loft office, that’s what eaves cupboards are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

Some homes have eaves, some have bays and some have neither, but most have a recess, a landing or a corner that could take storage. Whatever kind of home yours is in Edmonton, we start by looking at what’s there. Eaves cupboards are then built in our workshop and fitted on site.

You get the quote in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and talk it over at home. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

Fitted storage in Edmonton

About 29% of the homes in the streets around Edmonton went up before 1919, and about 27% between 1919 and 1939, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Edmonton is partly covered by a conservation area, going by Historic England’s data. Being in a conservation area mainly affects changes to the outside of a building, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. The council can confirm if you are not sure. About 30% of households in the neighbourhood around Edmonton live in terraced houses, going by Census 2021 figures from the ONS. Loft conversions are common in London terraces, leaving eaves and sloping ceilings to use; we build once the loft is converted or boarded.

Close to Pymmes Park? Eaves cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things. For a flat near Edmonton Green station, it is useful to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there is usually a gap left over at the top or at one end. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can use the full height and width.

Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that are not square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths.

Questions from Edmonton

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Edmonton?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It is useful to tell us about parking during the design visit.

Does a conservation area in or near Edmonton affect fitted furniture?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, changes inside that alter its character can require listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

Do you do the electrics?

No. Any new wiring, sockets or lights need an electrician, and some electrical work in homes is covered by Part P of the Building Regulations. We will design around them.

Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?

There are two ways to finish it: spray painted or hand painted. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.

Do pictures help?

Yes, they help. Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space. You can send them when you drop us a line using the contact form.

Do you do plastering or decorating?

No. We do not plaster or decorate. We finish the furniture itself, as set out in your quote.

Is it time for loft storage?

Loft rooms that double as offices or guest rooms need places for things. Built-in storage under the slopes keeps the room flexible.

Common reasons to get in touch include:

  • Ready-made wardrobes too big for the stairs
  • A dormer that is not being used
  • Boxes piled on loft boards
  • A loft room with too many jobs

If your children go to Brettenham Primary School or a school nearby, eaves cupboards can be planned around what a family needs to keep, from coats and bags to sports kit.

What to check before you book

  • Whether the finish is set out in the quote
  • Will the doors close with even gaps?
  • Where they’ll park and unload
  • Who does any electrics, plumbing or gas work

Choosing a carpenter in London: a checklist

From workshop to your room

There is not much for you to do on fitting day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and it helps to have the room cleared beforehand, as we’ll have talked about at the measuring visit. After that, it is over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. How long the fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. London parking ranges from controlled zones to driveways and private bays, so tell us what applies at the design visit. For a flat, building rules on lifts and working hours are worth checking.

  1. You get in touch and describe the loft room, its slopes and any dormer.
  2. At the design visit we measure the knee walls and the angle of each slope at more than one point, as they’re rarely even.
  3. A quote in writing follows, with the design, materials and finish.
  4. The storage is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, cut to the angles we measured.
  5. On fitting day the units are set level and scribed to the slope and the knee wall.

Before we arrive

  • Clear the area where the furniture is going
  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves

How to get a quote

It is useful to see the room before we come. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space. To share them, tell us about the room on our contact form, and we will suggest a time for a design visit.

What it is made from

Moisture-resistant MDF

We use moisture-resistant MDF because it’s stable and gives a smooth surface for paint. It suits the doors, drawer fronts and panels, where the finish is most on show.

Plinths and scribe strips

We trim scribe strips to the exact line of the wall and ceiling. They help the storage look as though it was always there. The plinth does the same job at the floor.
