Loft storage for homes in Eel Pie Island
Loft stairs are often narrow and steep, with tight turns. At the design visit, we measure the stairs and landings as well as the loft, so the sections we make in our workshop can be carried up. It is part of the job for any loft room in Eel Pie Island. People typically come to us about a converted loft with no fitted furniture and clothes with nowhere to go in a loft bedroom; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
Not every home has a loft conversion, a bay or a cupboard under the stairs, but most have a recess, a landing or a corner that could take storage. Whatever kind of home yours is in Eel Pie Island, we start by looking at what’s there. The storage is built in our workshop and fitted in your home.
You get the quote in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and talk it over at home. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

Flats, blocks and rented homes
In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. We choose fixings to suit the wall, after checking the walls at the measuring visit.
Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too, often to make the most of a small or awkward room. It’s made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work, finished by spray or by hand.

What prompts loft storage in Eel Pie Island
Some people want to hide clutter in the eaves. Eaves cupboards keep them out of sight. It keeps the room tidy.
Most of the enquiries we get are about things like these:
- Wasted space behind the knee walls
- A loft room that doubles as an office or guest room
- Boxes and suitcases with no home
- Boxes piled on loft boards
For families living near St Mary's Church of England Primary School, eaves cupboards can be planned around what a family needs to keep, from coats and bags to sports kit.
What to check before you book
- How they’ll get the furniture into the room
- Will the doors close with even gaps?
- Are the boards named, like MDF or plywood?
- A written quote that sets out the job
Is bespoke worth it?
Off-the-shelf wardrobes often don’t fit up narrow loft stairs. We make each piece in sections that fit up the stairs. That makes it possible to fit large pieces in a small loft. Standard widths and heights seldom suit an actual room, which leaves gaps at the sides and wasted space on top. Built-in pieces fill the space they’re made for.
Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size is the starting point. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.

Your questions about loft storage in Eel Pie Island
Do you cover homes near Twickenham station?
Yes. We cover all of Richmond upon Thames and the rest of London. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit.
Is parking a problem for fitting in Eel Pie Island?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.
Will the storage fit up my loft stairs?
We make the storage in sections sized for the route. At the design visit, we measure the loft stairs, the turns and the landings. That way, even a large wardrobe can reach the loft.
What are your eaves cupboards made from?
We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. The carcasses and drawer boxes are birch plywood, which is strong and holds screws well, while the doors and panels are MDF, which paints well. Everything is finished by spray painting or hand painting.
Do photos help?
Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot, especially with rough sizes. To send them, send us a few details through our contact form.
Does eaves storage affect the insulation?
A good design avoids that. At the design visit we check what’s there and leave the space it needs. Insulation and ventilation work itself isn’t ours.
Boards, parts and paint
Birch plywood
Drawers in the knee wall can carry heavy things, from boxes to bedding. That is why we make drawer boxes from birch plywood. It also suits long shelves.
Plinths and scribe strips
The floor in a loft room is rarely perfectly level. We set the storage level on a plinth or adjustable feet, so everything opens and closes as it should.
How fitting day works
The last stage of the day is the finish. With a spray finish from the workshop, there is normally only filling and touching up to do in the room; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. It’s useful to clear the room and the route in before fitting day, including anything on the walls near the work. We cover floors and doorways first. Then the sections come in and are joined in place.

- Everything is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections small enough for the loft stairs.
