Fitted wardrobes across TW10: what to expect
What goes inside is where a fitted wardrobe earns its place. We plan the mix of long hanging, double hanging, shelves and drawers around your clothes. It helps to think about what you wear most before we meet. Most enquiries start with a room too narrow for hinged doors and condensation behind a wardrobe on an outside wall; the furniture is made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
At the end, we tidy up and take up the floor coverings. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together and explain how to look after the paint. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and the fitting days are set out in your quote.
- You get in touch about fitted wardrobes for your bedroom.
- At the design visit, we measure the room, check the walls, floor and ceiling and plan the doors and inside with you.
- We send a quote in writing with the layout, materials and finish.
- We build the wardrobes in our workshop, in sections sized to get into your home.
- Fitting day: the wardrobes go in, are levelled and scribed, and the doors are hung.
How our quotes work
Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. A larger piece means more material and more time, so size is the starting point. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.
Why work with us
- Fitted tight to walls that are not straight
- Built in our workshop and fitted in your home
- Made in moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
- A spray or hand-painted finish
Arranging a design visit
You do not need exact measurements to get started. Everything is measured properly when we visit. To get started, tell us about the room on our contact form and tell us about the room. You receive a written quote after the visit.

Fitted wardrobes across TW10: local notes
If your bedroom in TW10 has a chimney breast, the alcoves either side are natural places for storage. In rooms without one, a full wall of storage often works best. Either way, each piece is fitted to the walls and floor as they are.
The biggest shares of homes in TW10 were built before 1919 (about 40%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 20%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. That matters for fitted wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. About 40% of homes in the TW10 postcode district were built before 1919, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Older bedrooms normally have alcoves and tall ceilings, both of which fitted wardrobes can use. Of the 6 places we have local pages for in TW10, 5 have their centre inside a conservation area, according to Historic England’s data. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission.
The ULEZ has covered every London borough since August 2023, and red routes, run by TfL, have strict rules on stopping, so we plan access to your home in TW10 ahead of fitting day.
Ham: The wider area includes historic houses such as Ham House, about 0.6 miles north. If your own home is a period one, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design. For a family home near Meadlands Primary School, fitted wardrobes in a child’s room can be planned so the inside layout changes as they grow.
Caring for painted furniture
Getting the most from fitted wardrobes starts with the planning and carries on after fitting day. These are worth keeping in mind:
- Work out the split between long and short hanging
- Check the route into your flat, not just the room
- Ask your electrician about moving sockets early
- In a leasehold flat, read the lease first
Painted wardrobe doors only need a soft cloth that is barely damp. Avoid abrasive pads and strong sprays, as they can dull the paint.
Don’t dry washing inside a wardrobe or in the bedroom with the doors shut, as the extra moisture can lead to condensation. A little ventilation in the room helps.
Do you need fitted wardrobes?
Some bedrooms are hard to furnish. Slopes, chimney breasts, low windows and doors in awkward spots leave standard wardrobes with nowhere to go. Fitted wardrobes are shaped around them.
People usually get in touch with us about things like these:
- Gaps above and around standalone wardrobes
- Wasted space beside the chimney breast
- Damp or musty clothes against an external wall
- A sloping ceiling that is hard to use
What it’s made from
Hand-painted finish
A hand-painted finish can be done on site once the wardrobes are fitted. Small marks are simple to touch up.
Moisture-resistant MDF
Wardrobe doors are large, so stability matters. MDF stays flat and gives a smooth surface for painting.
DIY, flat-pack or bespoke
A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder.
Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job.
Is bespoke worth it?
To be fair, modular wardrobe systems are easy to reconfigure. A bespoke interior is planned around your clothes from the start.

FAQs: fitted wardrobes in TW10
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, Saturdays are possible by arrangement. Just mention it when you get in touch.
Do you make the furniture yourselves?
Each piece is made in our workshop for the room it is going into, then fitted in your home. It’s built from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
What can go inside a fitted wardrobe?
You choose the mix of hanging, shelves and drawers. It can include long and double hanging, shelves, drawers and space for shoes, in the proportions you need. We plan it with you when we visit.
Can I send pictures ahead of the visit?
Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot, especially with rough measurements. You can send them when you message us from the contact page.
How is the price worked out?
Every job is priced for its room: the size, what goes inside, the finish and how square the room is all count. The written quote follows the design visit.
Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?
Not normally. Inside a house, fitted furniture does not normally need planning permission. If the building is listed, works affecting its character may need listed building consent.
Do I need to be at home on fitting day?
Someone needs to let us in at the start of the day. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.
