Loft storage for your home in Whitton

About our loft storage in Whitton

Behind an eaves door, there’s often insulation and a need for ventilation. We design the storage so it doesn’t block airflow or crush insulation. If anything looks wrong behind the eaves, it is worth asking whoever converted the loft. When we visit in Whitton, we’ll see what’s there. Typical reasons to get in touch are a boarded loft that’s hard to keep organised and ready-made wardrobes too big for the stairs; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

Around Whitton, interwar houses or semi-detached and detached homes make up a good part of the housing. In a typical 1930s house, storage tends to hide in the bay, under the stairs and in the box room. Any meters or fuse board under the stairs stay accessible, and the storage is planned around them.

If the job needs another trade, such as an electrician or a plumber, we will tell you. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

Why bespoke in Whitton?

Off-the-shelf wardrobes often do not fit up narrow loft stairs. We make each piece in sections that fit up the stairs. It means a full wardrobe can still reach the room. Doors, windows and radiators rarely leave a gap that matches a standard width, which leaves ready-made pieces sitting awkwardly. Fitted furniture is designed around them.

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size comes first. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.

What you get with us

  • Spray painted or hand painted, in the colour you choose
  • Saturday visits and fitting by prior arrangement
  • Workshop-made and fitted by us
  • We work across all London boroughs

From workshop to your room

In older rooms, the furniture typically has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details, so it looks as though it was always there. The time the fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Some interwar and suburban streets have driveways, which can make unloading easier, so it is worth mentioning during the design visit. Otherwise, a visitor permit or a nearby bay helps. Floors and doorways are protected while the pieces come in.

  1. To begin, get in touch through our contact form; a brief note on the loft and the storage you want is enough.
  2. We visit to measure the slopes and eaves and talk through cupboards, drawers and wardrobes under them.
  3. Your written quote sets out the storage and the finish.
  4. The storage is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, cut to the angles we measured.
  5. On fitting day the units are set level and scribed to the slope and the knee wall.

Before fitting day

  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
  • Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street

Storage in Whitton homes: local notes

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 56% of the housing in the area around Whitton, with about 18% built before 1919, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how eaves cupboards are fixed and fitted. There are 6 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Whitton. Being near listed buildings doesn’t make a home listed, and you can check any address on Historic England’s list. Detached and semi-detached houses are home to about 44% of households in the streets around Whitton, in the ONS Census 2021 figures. In a semi or detached house, a driveway, where there is one, can make unloading easier.

If you live near Crane Park, living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place. If you live in a period home close to All Saints Church, a dormer in a converted loft can hold shelves or a small desk.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that are not square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths.

Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.

How we price loft storage

What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. That depends on:

  • How square the room is
  • How big the furniture is
  • Spray painting or hand painting
  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room

Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.

Helping us understand the room

To help us picture the room, please include:

  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • Where you live, with the postcode
  • Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters

Rough measurements are fine at the start. Everything is measured properly when we visit. To get started, tell us about the room on our contact form and tell us about the room. The written quote follows the visit.

Your questions about loft storage in Whitton

Do you cover homes near Whitton station?

Yes, homes across Richmond upon Thames and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with some details about the room.

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Whitton?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to tell us about parking during the design visit.

Who chooses the colour?

You choose it. The paint colour is agreed with you.

What happens when you come to measure?

It is a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, then send a quote in writing.

Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?

It can be done with some care: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. We do not treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.

My walls are not straight. Is that a problem?

Walls and floors that aren’t true are part of the job in older homes. We trim the edges to follow the wall and level the base.

Do you need loft storage in Whitton?

Boxes, suitcases and seasonal things need a home. Eaves cupboards keep them out of sight. It keeps the room tidy.

If any of these sound familiar, it’s worth getting in touch:

  • Wasted space behind the knee walls
  • A dormer that is not being used
  • A loft room that still feels unfinished
  • No wardrobe that fits under the slope

If you live in a flat close to Whitton station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in.
