Enfield Highway Loft Storage
In Enfield Highway, we design loft storage around the room you actually have. We design your eaves cupboard at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.
- Furniture that cannot get up to the loft
- A boarded loft with no proper shelving
- Low eaves that nobody can use
Loft storage in Enfield Highway
Loft storage for homes in Enfield Highway
Loft rooms are often bedrooms, so storage for clothes matters. A wardrobe under the slope, knee-wall drawers and dormer shelves make a complete set. Designed as one, they give the room calm, consistent lines. For a home in Enfield Highway, it’s planned around your things. We make eaves cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and people most often get in touch about needing storage in a loft office and a loft room that still feels unfinished.
An interwar house tends to have truer walls than a Victorian one, though rarely square corners. Much of the housing around Enfield Highway is interwar, semi-detached or detached, and every piece is still scribed where it meets the wall. Lids, doors and drawers are set level on site so they run true.
Once you’ve read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is made in our workshop. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so you can check every detail beforehand.

Flats, conversions and lettings
In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of.
If the property is let, we’ll need access agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf.

Enfield Highway homes and loft storage
In the streets around Enfield Highway, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 55%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 16%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Near the centre of Enfield Highway, Historic England’s list includes Wright's Almshouses (Grade II), under half a mile west, and The Bell Inn (Grade II), less than half a mile north. For a listed home, changes inside that alter its character can need listed building consent from the council, for instance removing or fixing into original panelling. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. Terraced houses are home to about 34% of households in the streets around Enfield Highway, the 2021 Census shows. Many London terraces have converted lofts with eaves that can take storage.
For families living near Enfield Heights Academy, eaves cupboards can be planned around what a family needs to keep, from coats and bags to sports kit. Living in a block of flats near Brimsdown station? Then eaves cupboards are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room.

Questions we’re often asked
Can you make loft storage for a home in Enfield Highway?
Yes. We cover all of Enfield and the rest of London, and Enfield Highway is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.
Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?
Usually not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character can require listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.
Should I send pictures?
Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit. Show anything the furniture has to work around, such as radiators or sockets.
Do I choose the paint colour?
The choice is yours, and we agree it with you before the furniture is finished. Whichever finish you pick, it is in the colour you have chosen.
Can the fitting be on a Saturday?
Yes, Saturdays are possible by arrangement. Just mention it when you get in touch.
Will the storage fit up my loft stairs?
Every piece is made in sections that fit up the stairs. At the design visit, we measure the loft stairs, the turns and the landings. It means a full wardrobe can still reach the room.
What it’s made from
Moisture-resistant MDF
In a loft, stability matters, and moisture-resistant MDF is stable. It takes a spray-painted or hand-painted finish well. It’s used for most of the visible parts.
Pull-out drawers
Drawers along the knee wall make a neat, low run of storage. The top can be a surface for books or lamps. We agree the layout at the design visit.
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Standalone furniture can move with you, and it may suit a short stay. Fitted storage stays with the house, and it uses the slopes in a way a standalone piece cannot. The right choice depends on how long you plan to stay. Off-the-shelf units come in set widths, so a run along a wall usually ends with a gap, so fitted furniture is made to the wall’s own length. It can use the full height too.
The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. We’ll talk through what you need inside at the measuring visit, then set it out in the quote.

- Fitted tight to walls that are not straight
- Saturdays by arrangement

Take a look at our comparison of bespoke and off-the-shelf and what a quote should include.
Is it time for loft storage?
Most people get in touch because the eaves are going to waste. The low spaces at the edge of a loft room are hard to use. Built-in storage makes that space useful.
Common reasons to get in touch include:
- A dormer that isn’t being used
- Wasted space behind the knee walls
- Ready-made wardrobes too big for the stairs
- Nowhere to store bags and boxes
For an older house near St James' Church, sloping ceilings in a loft room suit wardrobes cut to the angle.
Before you hire any carpenter
- Will the doors close with even gaps?
- Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
- Whether you’ll get a written quote, not just a figure
- Whether the finish is set out in the quote
What happens on fitting day
Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site, so it looks as though it was always there. How long fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. A front path or side gate can make the carry from the van simpler. Gates, paths and steps up to the door are part of the route we measure. Floors are covered from the door to the room, and the sections are assembled in place.
- You get in touch with some details about the loft room.
- We visit to measure and look at what’s behind the knee walls, and discuss the design with you.
- Your quote sets out the design, the materials and the finish.
- Your storage is built in our workshop, shaped to the loft.
- The storage is fitted and set level, ready to fill.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Keep pets in another room while we work
