How we make loft storage for Leyton Grange

Our work is in loft rooms that are already converted, or lofts that are boarded. We don’t carry out loft conversions, and Building Regulations apply to a conversion. With the room in place, we can plan the storage. If you have a converted loft in Leyton Grange, the design visit is the first step. We make eaves cupboards from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and people most often get in touch about nowhere to store bags and boxes and a new loft conversion that needs storage.

Original features like shutters, cupboard doors and panelling are worth keeping where they survive. Around Leyton Grange, where homes from before 1919 make up a large share, new storage can be made to sit beside them rather than replace them. Panel details can be drawn to suit the house. For a listed home, fixing into original joinery can need consent, so check first.

A written quote is the clearest record of what we have agreed. It sets out the eaves cupboard designed for your room, its materials and its finish.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

If you’re handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it is quick to buy.

Flats, conversions and lettings

A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it.

Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. If there is a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Let us know about it when you get in touch.

Looking after your furniture

Fresh paintwork takes a while to cure fully, so go gently with it for a while. Beyond that, these tips help:

  • Choose a calm colour for the loft
  • Think about what will go in each cupboard or drawer
  • Think about how you will reach into the eaves
  • Make room so the whole loft can be measured

A hand-painted finish is easy to touch up if it gets marked. Keep a note of the colour for later. If anything is not right with the storage, get in touch through our contact form and we will talk it through.

Leave room for air to move behind the storage. Squashed insulation works less well. Damp in the eaves is worth raising with the people who did the conversion.

What happens on fitting day

Finishing comes last. With a spray finish from the workshop, there’s normally only filling and touching up to do in the room; hand painting, if that is what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. Hallways in period houses are often narrow, and the stairs turn sharply, so eaves cupboards are made in sections sized to get through. Floors, stairs and doorways are covered before anything is carried through.

  1. You get in touch and let us know about the loft and the stairs up to it.
  2. At the design visit we plan the storage and measure the stairs, landings and loft doorway. Tell us about parking too, as a van often needs a permit or a paid bay.
  3. We send a quote in writing.
  4. Everything is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections small enough for the loft stairs.
  5. We carry the sections up, join them in the room and scribe them to fit. The finish is sprayed in the workshop or hand-painted in the loft.

Before we arrive

  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves

Starting with a design visit

The design visit is where every quote starts. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and discuss the design with you. Afterwards, we send a quote in writing, so you can take your time with it. To book one, message us from the contact page.

Storage in Leyton Grange homes: local notes

In the streets around Leyton Grange, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 63%) and the years since 2000 (about 16%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Near the centre of Leyton Grange, Historic England’s list includes Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin (Grade II*), less than half a mile east, and Walnut Tree House (Grade II*), under half a mile east. If you live in a listed building, fixing into or taking out original features such as panelling can need listed building consent. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. TfL’s red routes have strict stopping rules. If your street in Leyton Grange joins a main road, it is worth telling us at the measuring visit. We can then plan where the van will stop.

The wider area includes historic houses like Sutton House, about 1.7 miles south-west. For a period home anywhere nearby, the knee walls of a converted loft can take drawers as well as cupboards. For families living near Riverley Primary School, a place for each person’s coat and shoes stops the hallway filling up. Close to Leyton Jubilee Park? Living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place.

What it’s made from

Pull-out drawers

Drawers that pull out make the eaves easy to use. You see everything at once. We plan them around any access the eaves need.

Moisture-resistant MDF

Because it cuts cleanly, MDF is ideal for angled panels under the slope. We use a moisture-resistant grade, which is stable and takes paint well. Most of what you see is MDF.

Common questions about loft storage

Do you cover homes near Leyton Midland Road station?

Yes. We cover all of Waltham Forest and the rest of London. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Can you make loft storage for a home in Leyton Grange?

Yes, we work across Waltham Forest, Leyton Grange included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can message us from the contact page with some details.

What if the wall is cold or damp?

It needs a little planning: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. We don’t treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.

Can you add sockets inside the units?

No. Any new wiring, sockets or lights need an electrician. We plan the furniture around where they’ll go.

What do eaves cupboards cost?

The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. The size of the room, the amount of storage and the finish all shape the price. To get a quote, fill in our short enquiry form and we’ll arrange a design visit.

What happens when you come to measure?

We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, then send a written quote.
