Loft Storage in Anerley

In Anerley, we design loft storage around the room you actually have. We design your eaves cupboard at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.

  • An empty dormer that could hold shelves
  • Needing storage in a loft office
  • Boxes piled on loft boards

Loft storage in Anerley

Loft storage in Anerley: what you get

We make each eaves cupboard in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, which suits drawer boxes and carcasses, while MDF takes paint well for the doors and panels. It’s then spray-painted or hand-painted and fitted in your home in Anerley. People normally come to us about a new loft conversion that needs storage and a boarded loft that’s hard to keep organised; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

With a large share of homes around Anerley built before 1919, under-stairs cupboards in older terraces often house the meters or the fuse board. Those have to stay reachable, so any storage is designed around them. Bays and sash windows in period houses are natural spots for a window seat.

You get the quote in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and share it with anyone else involved. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job.

Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

Practical tips

These points come up often when people plan loft storage. They help whatever the room:

  • Consider drawers for the deep, low spaces
  • Check the route up to the loft
  • Plan where the tall end of a wardrobe can go
  • Clear the knee-wall spaces before the design visit if you can

When we’ve finished fitting, the cupboards and drawers are ready. Paint needs time to cure fully, so treat the new finish gently at first. Keep tape and strong cleaners away from it while it settles.

Check now and then that handles and hinges are tight. A loose screw is easy to tighten before it works loose. If a door drops or a drawer catches, message us from the contact page and tell us.

What affects the price in Anerley

We quote each job after the design visit, because no two rooms are the same. This is what makes the difference:

  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
  • How square the room is
  • Parking and unloading on your street
  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers

The finish affects the cost: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

What to send when you get in touch

Ahead of the design visit, we’ll normally ask about:

  • Rough measurements: width, height and depth
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • Where you live, with the postcode

If you already have something in mind, tell us; if you do not, that’s fine, and we can work it out together. The design is talked through at the visit, once we’ve measured, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Why people ask for loft storage in Anerley

Many people get in touch once their loft conversion is complete. The room is there, but the furniture to fit it is not. Fitted storage finishes the room.

A few of the things people ask us to solve are these:

  • A new loft conversion that needs storage
  • A boarded loft with no proper shelving
  • Unused space in a dormer
  • Seasonal things cluttering the loft room

Before you hire any carpenter

  • How doors and drawers are fitted
  • Are the boards named, such as MDF or plywood?
  • Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
  • How they deal with uneven walls and floors

Questions we’re often asked

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Anerley?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit.

My home in Anerley is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?

At the design visit, we measure the way in not just the room. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

How long will the loft storage fitting take?

How long fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Every part is made in our workshop before we arrive. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

Can the fitting be on a Saturday?

Yes, by arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you get in touch.

Do you carry out loft conversions?

No, the conversion itself isn’t our work. We design and fit storage once the room is in place, including eaves cupboards, knee-wall drawers and wardrobes.

Can you build a wardrobe under a sloping ceiling?

Yes. Bespoke wardrobes are made to the angle of the ceiling. Hanging goes where there’s height, with shelves where it is low. It’s scribed to the slope and walls.

Fitting day, step by step

You won’t need to do much on the day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and the room should already be cleared. After that, it is over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. If your hall still has its original tiles or boards, they’re covered before any carrying starts. Fixings into older walls are made carefully, as lath and plaster can crack if treated roughly. Any decorating around the new pieces is for your decorator.

  1. It starts with some details from you.
  2. At the design visit we measure up and agree the layout and colour.
  3. Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
  4. We make the cupboards and drawers in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit it in the loft and check each door and drawer with you.
  6. Go easy on new paintwork while it cures; hand-painted surfaces are easy to touch up later.

How to prepare

  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician in advance

Ask for a quote

To make a start, fill in our short enquiry form and tell us a little about the room and roughly what you’d like. We then arrange a design visit to measure and go through the design, and send you a quote in writing afterwards.

Loft storage in Anerley: local notes

Homes built before 1919 make up about 47% of the housing in the area around Anerley, with about 20% built between 1973 and 1999, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. The centre of Anerley is within about a quarter of a mile of the Crystal Palace Park Conservation Area. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If you’re unsure, check with the council before work starts. About 23% of households in the neighbourhood around Anerley live in flats in converted or shared houses, based on Census 2021. In a converted house, rooms can be odd shapes, with new partitions meeting old walls, and the route in may go through a shared hall and stairs. A lease can require consent for alterations, so it is worth checking yours first.

For an older house near St Paul's, eaves cupboards in a converted loft are scribed to slopes that are rarely even. If you live near Crystal Palace Dinosaurs, eaves cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things.
