Primrose Hill Loft Storage

Loft storage in Primrose Hill: eaves cupboards, drawers and wardrobes in converted lofts. We visit to measure and talk through the design, make the furniture in our workshop and fit it.

  • Furniture that can’t get up to the loft
  • A boarded loft that’s hard to keep organised
  • A loft room that doubles as an office or guest room

Ask about loft storage in Primrose Hill

Flat-pack or bespoke?

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there is typically a gap left over at the top or at one end. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can use the full height and width.

The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. Off-the-shelf furniture cannot typically do that in an older room.

Loft storage in Primrose Hill

Behind an eaves door, there is often insulation and a need for ventilation. We design the storage so it does not block airflow or crush insulation. If anything looks wrong behind the eaves, it’s worth asking whoever converted the loft. When we visit in Primrose Hill, we’ll see what’s there. We make eaves cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and people most often get in touch about no wardrobe that fits under the slope and space under the eaves going to waste.

Around Primrose Hill, most households live in purpose-built flats, and many blocks have rules on lift booking, deliveries and working hours. Checking with the managing agent early makes the day smoother. If the flat is leasehold, the lease may need checking before eaves cupboards are fixed to the walls.

Once you’ve read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is built in our workshop. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so you can check every detail beforehand.

Flats, blocks and rented homes

If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so it’s worth raising during the design visit.

In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of, after checking the walls at the measuring visit.

Questions from Primrose Hill

Do you make loft storage for homes in Primrose Hill?

Yes, we work across Camden, Primrose Hill included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with some details.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Kentish Town West station?

Yes, homes across Camden and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.

Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?

Not normally. Fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission, even in a conservation area. Listed buildings may need listed building consent for works that affect their character.

How is loft storage priced?

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. The mix of cupboards, drawers and wardrobes, and the finish, all play a part. We set it all out in a quote in writing.

What happens at the design visit?

We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and discuss the design with you. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and afterwards we send a written quote.

Do you carry out loft conversions?

No, the conversion itself is not our work. Our part is the storage once the loft is a finished room, including eaves cupboards, knee-wall drawers and wardrobes.

What we don’t do

As carpenters, we leave some work to other trades. It is useful to know these before you plan the job:

  • Fixing damp or ventilation problems in the eaves
  • Electrical work in the loft
  • Any work on the structure of the house

Not sure whether your space suits loft storage? You can drop us a line using the contact form and we will tell you before you arrange a visit. How it works.

What goes into it

  • Eaves doors and drawers
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Birch plywood
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Sloped wardrobe tops
  • Moisture-resistant MDF

Caring for painted furniture

A few practical points help before and after fitting day. These are worth keeping in mind:

  • Make room so the whole loft can be measured
  • Make a list of what you want to store in the eaves
  • Bring paint colours you like to the design visit
  • Measure the loft stairs, the turns and the landing

When you load the drawers and cupboards, put heavy things low. That keeps the drawers running smoothly. Shelves are made for what you told us you’d store.

Temperatures in a loft room can swing more than elsewhere. Keep the room ventilated. It helps the storage stay in good condition.

How fitting works for loft storage

Getting everything level comes first. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth, which keeps the lines straight. After that, it is fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that’s solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Noise from drilling travels in a block, so neighbours may appreciate a note, and some buildings set hours for noisy work. We plan the day to suit those rules. Saturday work is by arrangement where the building permits it.

  1. You get in touch and let us know about the loft and the stairs up to it.
  2. At the design visit we plan the storage and measure the stairs, landings and loft doorway.
  3. We send a quote in writing.
  4. We build the storage in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, sized to get up to the loft.
  5. We carry the sections up, join them in the room and scribe them to fit. The finish is sprayed in the workshop or hand-painted in the loft.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
  • Empty the space we will be working in
