Loft storage in Seven Dials

Loft storage for homes in Seven Dials

Homes built before 1919 make up about 49% of the housing in the streets around Seven Dials, with about 21% built since 2000, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. The National Heritage List has 887 entries within half a mile of the centre of Seven Dials. Original fireplaces, shutters and panelling are worth keeping where they survive, and the furniture can be designed around them rather than over them. The ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) now covers the whole of London, Camden included. It applies to the vans that deliver and fit furniture in Seven Dials, as it does anywhere else in London. How the van gets to your door is planned at the measuring visit.

If your home is one of the older houses near Soho Baptist Chapel, sloping ceilings in a loft room suit wardrobes cut to the angle. For families living near St Josephs Catholic Primary School, deep drawers suit the bulky things families collect, from scooters to swimming kit. Close to St Anne's Churchyard? Eaves cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things.

Seven Dials is about 1 mile north-east of St Pancras, within the London Borough of Camden. From period terraces to newer flats in Seven Dials, we measure the room as it is and design around it. Seven Dials is one of 28 places on our list for Camden.

How we make loft storage for Seven Dials

A dormer can take shelves, a desk or a window seat. Dormers have their own shapes, and walls that are seldom square. We scribe the furniture to follow them. It adds storage without taking up the main floor. We will talk through the options in Seven Dials. We make eaves cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and people most often get in touch about a boarded loft with no proper shelving and a converted loft with no fitted furniture.

Hallways in period terraces are often long and narrow, with the stairs rising along one wall. Around Seven Dials, a large share of homes date from before 1919, so every bit of depth is weighed up when storage is planned. Even shallow storage can hold a lot without narrowing the way through.

The written quote is your record of the job. It sets out the eaves cupboard designed for your room, what it is made from and how it’s finished, and the workshop works from it.

Is bespoke worth it?

Off-the-shelf pieces come in the maker’s finishes. We paint the storage in the colour you choose, so it sits with the rest of the room. Tall standalone furniture needs fixing back to the wall so it cannot tip, and older walls of brick or lath and plaster make that harder than it looks. With fitted pieces, the fixings are planned for the wall from the start.

Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.

Why choose us

  • Finished by spray or by hand
  • Made in our workshop, then fitted in your home
  • Built around your room
  • Fitted tight to walls that aren’t straight

FAQs: loft storage in Seven Dials

My home in Seven Dials is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?

At the design visit, we measure the way in along with the room itself. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it’s worth checking those early.

Can you fit loft storage to the uneven walls of an older house in Seven Dials?

Yes. Walls in older houses are rarely flat or square, and floors are often out of level, so each piece is scribed to follow the wall and set level on a plinth or adjustable feet. We also work around skirting boards, picture rails and cornices. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whether solid brick or lath and plaster.

Do you move sockets or add lighting?

No. Electrical work is not something we do; it’s a job for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design, and new sockets should be in place before fitting day.

Do I need to be at home on fitting day?

We need someone to let us in at the start of the day. It’s good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.

How long is the fitting for eaves storage?

How long fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Every part is built in our workshop before we arrive. If you’d like the fitting on a Saturday, that can be arranged.

What are your eaves cupboards made from?

Our loft storage is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then painted. Both are stable, which matters in a loft room. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.

What it costs

Several things affect the price:

  • The internal fittings
  • How square the room is
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • How big the furniture is

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

What we need to know

To help us picture the room, please include:

  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • How you want to use the space
  • Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit

You don’t need exact measurements to get started. Everything is measured properly when we visit, along with the walls, floor and ceiling. To arrange it, send us a few details through our contact form and tell us about the room. You receive a written quote after the visit.

How it is made

Doors and drawer fronts

What you see of the storage is mostly its fronts. They can be plain or panelled, with handles chosen to suit the room. They’re cut to follow the angle of the ceiling.

Pull-out drawers

A run of drawers along the knee wall can work like a long chest. The top can be a surface for books or lamps. We agree the layout at the design visit.

Before and after fitting day

Painted fitted furniture is easy to look after. These habits help most:

  • Measure the loft stairs, the turns and the landing
  • Make room so the whole loft can be measured
  • Note the things that need a home in the loft
  • Think about matching the woodwork or the walls

Once the fitting is done, the storage is ready to use. New paintwork takes time to cure fully, so go easy on it to begin with. Avoid sticky tape, heavy knocks and harsh cleaners while it hardens.

Keep sharp or very heavy items away from the painted fronts. Put tools in a case so they don’t knock the paint. Minor chips can be touched up with the matching colour.

How fitting day works

In older rooms, the furniture usually has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details. How long fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Where a period house has been split into flats, the way in often goes through shared parts, so neighbours may appreciate a note before fitting day. The sections are sized for the narrowest point on the route. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.

  1. To begin, send us a few details through our contact form; a brief note on the loft and the storage you want is enough.
  2. At the design visit we measure the knee walls and the angle of each slope at more than one point, as they’re rarely even.
  3. A quote in writing follows, with the design, materials and finish.
  4. In our workshop we build each section from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood to follow the slope.
  5. We fit the storage in the loft, trimming the edges so they meet the ceiling neatly, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

Before fitting day

  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Tell us about parking near your home
  • Make sure pets are kept safely away
