About our loft storage in North Cray
A loft room can hold a great deal of storage, if the low spaces are used well. Our loft storage includes eaves cupboards, knee-wall drawers, wardrobes under sloping ceilings and dormer shelving, all made for the shape of the room. For a home in North Cray, it starts with a design visit to measure and talk it through. We make eaves cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the usual reasons to get in touch are low eaves that nobody can use and a converted loft with no fitted furniture.
Around North Cray, interwar houses or semi-detached and detached homes make up a good part of the housing. In a typical 1930s house, storage tends to hide in the bay, under the stairs and in the box room. Any meters or fuse board under the stairs stay accessible, and the storage is planned around them.
A written quote follows the design visit. It sets out the design we have talked through, the materials and the finish, so you know exactly what you’re getting.

Flats, conversions and lettings
If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations. We cannot give advice on leases.
If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways as well as the room, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through without a struggle.
FAQs: loft storage in North Cray
Does a conservation area in or near North Cray affect fitted furniture?
Normally not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can need listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Is parking a problem for fitting in North Cray?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It is useful to let us know about parking during the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.
Is it possible to fit a wardrobe under the slope?
Yes. A wardrobe made for the slope fits where a standard one cannot. Hanging goes where there’s height, with shelves where it’s low. It’s cut to fit the ceiling and walls exactly.
Should I send pictures?
Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit, along with rough measurements. Show anything the furniture has to work around, such as radiators or sockets.
Do you make good the walls afterwards?
No. We don’t plaster or decorate. The furniture is finished by spray or by hand, as agreed in your quote.
Can you convert my loft as well?
No, the conversion itself is not our work. We design and fit storage once the room is in place, from eaves cupboards to wardrobes under the slopes.
Loft storage in North Cray: local notes
Homes built between 1945 and 1972 make up about 44% of the housing in the area around North Cray, with about 22% built between 1919 and 1939, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). That matters for eaves cupboards, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Near the centre of North Cray, Historic England’s list includes Bath House to Rear of Number 112 (Grade II*), about 0.5 miles north-east, and Loring Hall (Grade II), less than half a mile south. Works inside a listed home that affect its character, for instance removing original joinery or fixing into it, can need listed building consent from the council. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. About 67% of households in the neighbourhood around North Cray live in detached or semi-detached houses, the 2021 Census shows. In a semi or detached house, a driveway, where there is one, can make unloading easier.
Close to Foots Cray Meadows? Living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place. If you live in a period home close to Parish Church of St James, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using.

How fitting works for loft storage
You are welcome to ask questions while we work. Most of the decisions were made during the design visit and set out in your quote, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully and leaving everything tidy. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Semis and detached houses often have a front path or a side gate, which can make carrying in easier. We measure the path, any steps and the front door as part of the route. Floors, stairs and doorways are protected on the way in.
- It starts when you contact us about storage in your loft, whether it is a converted room or a boarded space.
- At the design visit, we look at the slopes, the eaves and the way up, and talk through the design with you.
- A written quote follows, with the fitting days agreed.
- We make the cupboards and drawers in our workshop, cut to the slope.
- We fit it in your home and leave it ready to use.
Preparing the room

Is it time for loft storage?
Many people get in touch once their loft conversion is complete. The room is there, but the furniture to fit it isn’t. Fitted storage finishes the room.
If any of these sound familiar, it’s worth getting in touch:
- Wasted space behind the knee walls
- A loft room that still feels unfinished
- A sloping ceiling with no room for a wardrobe
- A boarded loft with no proper shelving
If you live in a flat close to Albany Park station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in.
Before you hire any carpenter
- Whether you will get a quote in writing, not just a figure
- How the furniture will be finished, and where
- Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote
- Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Loft walls are rarely straight, and floors are often out of level. Standard furniture leaves visible gaps. Our storage is scribed to the room and set level, so the lines look right. Walls in interwar houses are straighter than in older ones, but rarely perfect, and standalone units can lean or gap. Fitted furniture is scribed and levelled on site.
Every room is priced on its own, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.
