Loft storage in Bexley

Flats, blocks and rented homes

Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them during the design visit, and we’ll plan the fitting around them.

Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations, and that’s best sorted before fitting day. We cannot give advice on leases, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.

About our loft storage in Bexley

The low space behind a knee wall is often the most useful in the room. Eaves cupboards and pull-out drawers built into the knee wall put it to work. Pull-out drawers mean you don’t have to crawl in. We measure and plan for the space you have in Bexley. If you’re living with a boarded loft with no proper shelving and a loft room that doubles as an office or guest room, eaves cupboards made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.

If you live in one of the interwar houses or semis around Bexley, the hallway may be wider than in a Victorian terrace, with room for a cupboard by the door. Bay windows suit seating with drawers or lift-up lids, with a grille so any radiator below keeps heating the room. Each space is measured and eaves cupboards are made to suit it.

The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. The finish is stated too, whether that’s spray painting or hand painting.

Doors and drawer fronts

We make the fronts from moisture-resistant MDF and finish them in the colour you choose. The angled fronts match the ceiling, keeping the lines neat.

Pull-out drawers

A run of drawers along the knee wall can work like a long chest. The top can act as a shelf. The design visit settles the mix.

Storage in Bexley homes: local notes

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 45% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Bexley, with about 31% built between 1945 and 1972, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. The Parkhurst Conservation Area is close by, within about a quarter of a mile of the centre of Bexley. The controls in a conservation area are mostly about the outside of buildings, so furniture fitted inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Your council can advise if you’re unsure. About 66% of households in the area around Bexley live in detached or semi-detached houses, going by Census 2021 figures from the ONS. In a semi or detached house, a driveway, where there is one, can make unloading easier.

The wider area includes historic houses like Red House, about 0.9 miles north. If your own home is a period one, sloping ceilings in a loft room suit wardrobes cut to the angle. For a flat near Bexley station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in. Near listed buildings like Parish Church of St John the Evangelist, under half a mile east of the centre of Bexley, older homes may keep original joinery that eaves cupboards can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent.

Bexley is about 2 miles south-west of Sidcup, within the London Borough of Bexley. Anywhere in Bexley, the process is the same: a design visit, a written quote, furniture built in our workshop and fitting in your home. We cover places right across the rest of London, large and small.

Postcode districts we cover here for loft storage: DA5, DA6, DA14 and DA1. How fitting day works

Every fitting follows the same order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long the fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Loft stairs in an interwar house can be tight, with a low ceiling at the top, so pieces for a loft room are sized for the narrowest point. Elsewhere in the house, the route is usually more generous. The pieces are joined and fixed once in place.

  1. First you let us know about the loft room and what you’d like to store there.
  2. We visit to measure the eaves and slopes and talk through the design, including the headroom under the slope.
  3. You receive a written quote for the storage we have discussed, for you to look over.
  4. The cupboards and drawers are made in our workshop, in sections sized for the loft stairs.
  5. The storage is fitted in the loft and checked, door by door.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that are not square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, and standard units leave gaps.

What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. Off-the-shelf furniture cannot normally do that in an older room.

Pricing loft storage in Bexley

The price for your room depends on:

  • Doors and drawers, and how many
  • Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • How square the room is
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside

Rooms that are not square take more work: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. The quote allows for it, which we write after seeing the room.

What we need to know

To give us a picture of the room, it helps to include:

  • Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • What you’d like to store or use the space for
  • Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling

The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit. For a quote, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Your questions about loft storage in Bexley

Do you make loft storage for homes in Bexley?

Yes, Bexley is within the area we cover, which takes in all of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and go through the design, and then we send a quote.

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Bexley?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit.

How do you get large pieces into a loft?

We measure the stairs and landings as well as the loft room. Each section is made to fit the narrowest point, and then assembled in the loft.

What finishes do you offer?

You can choose between two finishes: spray painted or hand painted. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.

Do you do the electrics?

No. Sockets, switches and lighting are for your electrician. We plan the furniture around where they’ll go.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, by prior arrangement. Tell us when you get in touch if a Saturday suits you best.
