  • Space under the eaves going to waste

Need loft storage in Northumberland Heath?

Do you need loft storage in Northumberland Heath?

A boarded loft can be made far more useful with shelving. Storage in a boarded loft keeps everything organised. It is ideal for things you need now and then.

Loft storage can help with:

  • Ready-made wardrobes too big for the stairs
  • A converted loft with no fitted furniture
  • A dormer that isn’t being used
  • A boarded loft that is hard to keep organised

For families living near King Henry School, eaves cupboards can give school bags, shoes and sports kit a proper home.

Before you choose who makes it

  • Have they thought about parking near you?
  • A quote in writing that sets out the job
  • Whether they can show you real projects they’ve done
  • Whether the finish is set out in the quote

About our loft storage in Northumberland Heath

Each eaves cupboard is made in our workshop, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood gives the carcasses and drawers their strength, while MDF takes paint well for the doors and panels. Once painted, by spray or by hand, it is carried up and fitted in your home in Northumberland Heath. We make eaves cupboards from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and people most often get in touch about wasted space behind the knee walls and standard furniture that won’t go up the loft stairs.

In a family house, the hall and stairs usually carry the most clutter. Around Northumberland Heath, where interwar homes, semis and detached houses make up a big part of the housing, fitted storage near the front door can take much of it. Meters and fuse boards stay easy to reach.

Everything we agree during the design visit goes into the written quote: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it’s easier before the furniture is made.

Flats, leases and landlords

If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so it is worth raising at the design visit.

In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of, after checking the walls during the design visit.

Common questions about loft storage

Is parking a problem for fitting in Northumberland Heath?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Barnehurst station?

Yes. We cover all of Bexley and the rest of London. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and afterwards we send a written quote.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

Someone needs to let us in at the start of the day. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.

Will cupboards in the eaves stop air moving?

Not when it is planned well. At the design visit we check what’s there and leave the space it needs. We don’t alter insulation or vents.

How is the furniture painted?

There are two ways to finish it: by spray or by hand. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it is quick to buy.

Cost matters, and it is fair to say so: flat-pack is normally cheaper to buy. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.

From workshop to your room

On the morning of the fitting, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. The sections made at our workshop come in next. How long fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and your quote sets out the fitting days. In a 1930s house with a converted loft, the stairs to the loft room are often steeper than the main flight, so any section going up there is sized for them. Elsewhere in the house, the route is typically more generous. The pieces are joined and fixed once in place.

  1. It starts with some details from you.
  2. We come to measure and discuss the design and finish.
  3. A written quote follows.
  4. We make the cupboards and drawers in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The storage is fitted and scribed to the slopes, and any hand painting is done on site.
  6. Fresh paint needs time to cure, so use the doors and drawers gently at first.

How to prepare

  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
  • Keep pets in another room while we work

What it’s made from

Hand-painted finish

Hand painting gives a slightly softer look than spraying. It can be applied on site, in a colour agreed with you. It can be matched to the room’s woodwork.

Pull-out drawers

Drawers along the knee wall make a neat, low run of storage. The top can act as a shelf. We agree the layout during the design visit.
