Purley Loft Storage

In Purley, we design loft storage around the room you actually have. We design your eaves cupboard at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.

  • A converted loft with no fitted furniture
  • Unused space in a dormer
  • A loft room with too many jobs

Pricing loft storage in Purley

The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. The main factors are:

  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
  • How many doors and drawers there are

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size comes first. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.

What we need to know

There’s no need for exact sizes or plans. It is enough to send:

  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • Examples of the look you’re after
  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling

The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. Afterwards, we send a written quote, so you can take your time with it. To arrange the visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

Loft storage for homes in Purley

Our work is in loft rooms that are already converted, or lofts that are boarded. The conversion itself isn’t our work, and conversions come under Building Regulations. With the room in place, we can plan the storage. In Purley, it all begins with a design visit. If your home has a boarded loft that’s hard to keep organised and a loft room that doubles as an office or guest room, eaves cupboards made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish can solve it.

Walls in houses from between the wars are normally straighter than in older ones, but seldom perfect. Much of the housing around Purley is interwar, semi-detached or detached, so we still scribe every piece to the wall. Each piece is levelled on site, so doors, lids and drawers line up.

The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

Your questions about loft storage in Purley

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Purley station?

Yes. We cover all of Croydon and the rest of London. To get started, you can use our contact form with a few details about the room.

Is Purley in the area you cover for loft storage?

Yes. We cover all of Croydon and the rest of London, and Purley is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, followed by a quote.

Can you add sockets inside the units?

No. Electrical work isn’t something we do; it is a job for your electrician. We can plan cable routes into the design, and new sockets should be in place before fitting day.

What happens when you come to measure?

It is a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, and the written quote comes afterwards.

Do pictures help?

Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit. It helps to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.

What if my walls and floors are out of level?

Uneven walls are normal in older London homes, and the furniture is made to deal with them. We scribe the edges to follow the wall and set the furniture level on adjustable feet or a plinth.

Honest limits

As carpenters, we leave some work to other trades. It is useful to know these before you plan the job:

  • Converting the loft itself, which isn’t our work
  • Anything that needs Building Regulations sign-off
  • Insulation or ventilation work behind the eaves

Not sure whether your space suits loft storage? You can get in touch through our contact form and we’ll tell you. How a job runs, step by step.

What goes into it

  • Birch plywood
  • Sloped wardrobe tops
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Eaves doors and drawers
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Spray-painted finish

Tips worth knowing

These points come up often when people plan loft storage. They help whatever the room:

  • Plan where the tall end of a wardrobe can go
  • Note the things that need a home in the loft
  • Look at the insulation and any vents behind the knee wall
  • Tell us about parking during the design visit

Don’t pack things so tightly that air can’t move behind the knee wall. Leave the gaps we’ve designed in. It helps keep the loft in good order.

Check now and then that handles and hinges are tight. Tightening early stops a small looseness getting worse. If a door drops or a drawer catches, drop us a line using the contact form and tell us.

From workshop to your room

Getting everything level comes first. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth, and that keeps the doors and shelves true. After that, it’s fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that is solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Interwar houses usually have a straight run of stairs and a reasonable hallway, though we still measure the route in along with the room itself. Eaves cupboards arrive in sections and are assembled in place, with floors protected throughout.

  1. You get in touch and tell us about your converted or boarded loft.
  2. We come to measure the room and the way up to it, and go through the design.
  3. You receive a written quote for the storage we’ve discussed.
  4. The cupboards and drawers are made in our workshop, in sections sized for the loft stairs. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit it in your home, scribed to the slopes and the walls, with the finish sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site.

Before we arrive

  • Make sure pets are kept safely away
  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
  • Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to

Ask for a quote

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, when we have measured up and talked through the design. For a quote, drop us a line using the contact form.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it’s easy to buy.

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there is usually a gap left over at the top or at one end. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can use the full height and width.

Fitted storage in Purley

In the streets around Purley, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 31%) and the years since 2000 (about 28%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. That matters for eaves cupboards, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. A quarter or more of the homes in the area around Purley (about 28%) were built since 2000, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. In a newer house with a converted loft, the space under the slopes can be used; we build once the loft is converted or boarded. Parking controls in London are set borough by borough, so Croydon has its own. If your road in Purley falls in a zone, the van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to tell us about parking during the design visit.

If you live in a period home close to St Swithun's, the knee walls of a converted loft can take drawers as well as cupboards. If your children go to Christ Church CofE Primary School (Purley) or a school nearby, a place for each person’s coat and shoes stops the hallway filling up.
