Loft storage for your home in Broad Green
Loft storage in Broad Green
Loft rooms are often bedrooms, so storage for clothes matters. Wardrobes under the slope, drawers in the knee wall and shelves in the dormer can all work together. Planned together, they make the room feel ordered. For a home in Broad Green, it is planned around your things. If your home has an empty dormer that could hold shelves and boxes piled on loft boards, that’s what eaves cupboards are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
A deep cupboard can lose things at the back, so the design uses drawers, lids or shelves to bring things within reach. Whatever kind of home you have in Broad Green, the right answer depends on the depth and the height. Any meters, fuse board or boiler keep the access they need.
You get the quote in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and talk it over at home. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

Is it time for loft storage?
The most common reason is wasted space. Behind the knee walls, there is space nobody can reach. Built-in storage makes that space useful.
Common reasons to get in touch include:
- No wardrobe that fits under the slope
- Space under the eaves going to waste
- A converted loft with no fitted furniture
- A loft room that doubles as an office or guest room
For an older house near Church of St Saviour, sloping ceilings in a loft room suit wardrobes cut to the angle.
What to check before you book
- Can you see real work of theirs?
- Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
- Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
- Will the doors close with even gaps?

How fitting works for loft storage
With the carcasses fixed and level, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, then checked again. How long fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. It’s useful to clear the room and the route in before fitting day, including pictures on nearby walls. We cover floors and doorways first. Sections are then carried in and assembled.
- You get in touch and describe the loft room, its slopes and any dormer.
- At the design visit we measure the knee walls and the angle of each slope at more than one point, as they’re rarely even.
- A quote in writing follows, with the design, materials and finish.
- In our workshop we build each section from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood to follow the slope.
- We fit the storage in the loft, trimming the edges so they meet the ceiling neatly, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
How to prepare
- Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to
- Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
- If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager

FAQs: loft storage in Broad Green
I live near West Croydon station. Is that in your area?
Yes, homes across Croydon and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit.
Is parking a problem for fitting in Broad Green?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit.
Do you move sockets or add lighting?
No. Electrical work isn’t something we do; it’s a job for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design, and any new sockets are best done before fitting day.
What are your eaves cupboards made from?
We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. The carcasses and drawer boxes are birch plywood, which is strong and holds screws well, and MDF takes paint well for the doors and panels. Everything is finished by spray painting or hand painting.
What do eaves cupboards cost?
Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. It depends on how much storage you want, the shape of the room and the finish. For a quote, drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit.
Will eaves storage block the ventilation?
It shouldn’t, if it’s designed properly. We design eaves storage so it doesn’t block ventilation or squash insulation. If you have concerns about what’s already behind the eaves, it is worth asking whoever converted the loft.
Honest limits
Some parts of a job need another trade, from an electrician to a plumber or an engineer on the Gas Safe Register. Here is what to bear in mind:
- Adding or replacing insulation
- Any wiring, which needs an electrician
- Anything that needs Building Regulations sign-off
If in doubt, you can message us from the contact page and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

Making use of tricky spaces in Broad Green
Homes built before 1919 make up about 38% of the housing in the area around Broad Green, with about 22% built between 1919 and 1939, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Broad Green include West Croydon United Reformed Church (Grade II), under half a mile west, and Church of St Saviour (Grade II), less than half a mile north-east. Where a home is listed, listed building consent can be needed for inside works that affect its character, such as fixing into original panelling. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. Red routes are run by TfL, with tight limits on where and when vehicles can stop. If your street in Broad Green joins a main road, it is worth telling us at the design visit. That way we can plan where to load and unload.
If you live near Waddon Ponds, living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place. For a family home near Elmwood Infant School, deep drawers suit the bulky things families collect, from scooters to swimming kit.
Broad Green is about 1 mile north of Thornton Heath, part of the London Borough of Croydon. Broad Green is part of the area we cover, and the process is the same everywhere we work. Across Croydon, we cover Broad Green and the places around it.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke
Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can use the full height and width.
Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that are not square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths.
Practical tips
The finish lasts best with a little care, whether it was spray painted or hand painted. Here are our suggestions:
- Make room so the whole loft can be measured
- Think about how you’ll reach into the eaves
- Tell us about parking at the measuring visit
- Count the clothes you’ll need to hang
Keep the ventilation behind the eaves clear. Leave the gaps we have designed in. It helps prevent damp behind the storage.
Check now and then that handles and hinges are tight. Tightening early stops a small looseness getting worse. If something stops working smoothly, fill in our short enquiry form and describe it.
