Single Street Loft Storage
Loft storage in Single Street: eaves cupboards, drawers and wardrobes in converted lofts. We visit to measure and talk through the design, make the furniture in our workshop and fit it.
- A boarded loft that’s hard to keep organised
- A dormer that is not being used
- Standard furniture that won’t go up the loft stairs
Loft storage designed for your room
About our loft storage in Single Street
Getting furniture up to a loft room is part of the planning. At the design visit, we measure the stairs and landings as well as the loft, so every section built in our workshop fits up the stairs. It’s part of the job for any loft room in Single Street. If your home has clothes with nowhere to go in a loft bedroom and ready-made wardrobes too big for the stairs, that is what eaves cupboards are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.
An interwar house usually has a proper landing, sometimes with a recess or an airing cupboard, and that space can take shallow fitted storage. Around Single Street, where interwar homes and semis are a big part of the housing, the landing is worth a look as well as the hall. Any boiler or hot water cylinder keeps the access and ventilation its maker asks for.
A written quote is the clearest record of what we’ve agreed. It sets out the eaves cupboard designed for your room, what it is made from and how it is finished, and the workshop works from it.

Questions we’re often asked
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Single Street?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to let us know about parking at the measuring visit.
Is Single Street in the area you cover for loft storage?
Yes, we work across Bromley, Single Street included, and across the rest of London. You can send us a few details through our contact form to arrange a design visit.
How is loft storage priced?
We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Drawers in the knee wall normally involve more work than simple cupboards, and the finish matters too. We set it all out in a quote in writing.
My walls aren’t straight. Is that a problem?
Uneven walls are normal in older London homes, and the furniture is made to deal with them. We scribe the edges to follow the wall and set the furniture level on adjustable feet or a plinth.
Do you carry out loft conversions?
No, the conversion itself is not our work. Our part is the storage once the loft is a finished room, including eaves cupboards, knee-wall drawers and wardrobes.
How do you get large pieces into a loft?
Measuring the route is part of the design visit. Each section is made to fit the narrowest point, and then assembled in the loft.
Fitted storage in Single Street
The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Single Street were built between 1945 and 1972 (about 29%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 25%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. There are 6 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Single Street. You can check whether a particular building is listed on Historic England’s list. The Ultra Low Emission Zone has covered all of London since it reached the outer boroughs on 29 August 2023. It applies to the vans that deliver and fit furniture in Single Street, as it does anywhere else in London. Parking and access are planned during the design visit.
Down House, about 1 mile north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, eaves cupboards in a converted loft are scribed to slopes that are rarely even. Near listed buildings like Church of St Peter and St Paul, less than half a mile east of the centre of Single Street, older homes may keep original joinery that eaves cupboards can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can require listed building consent.
Single Street is in the London Borough of Bromley, about 5 miles north of Orpington. Design visits and fitting in Single Street can be on a Saturday, by arrangement. We list Single Street among 49 places we cover in Bromley.

Flats, leases and landlords
In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of.
If the property is let, we will need access agreed with the tenants. An agent can arrange access for you, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.

When is bespoke worth it?
Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. That is something we plan for in the design.
The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. Off-the-shelf furniture can’t typically do that in an older room.
Is it time for loft storage?
A sloping ceiling makes a standard wardrobe impossible. Bespoke wardrobes follow the slope. It is often the main reason people get in touch about a loft bedroom.
Loft storage can help with:
- Boxes piled on loft boards
- Needing storage in a loft office
- Boxes and suitcases with no home
- Ready-made wardrobes too big for the stairs
For a flat near Chelsfield station, the route in is measured along with the room itself, and the sections are sized to fit it.
Choosing a carpenter
- Are the boards named, like MDF or plywood?
- A written quote that sets out the job
- Real projects you can actually look at
- Where they’ll park and unload
Caring for painted furniture
Looking after painted furniture is simple with a little care. A few things help it stay looking good:
- Consider drawers for the deep, low spaces
- Check the route up to the loft
- Clear the knee-wall spaces before the design visit if you can
- Choose a calm colour for the loft
Before we leave, we check every door and drawer with you. If there’s an access door to the eaves, we make sure it opens fully. That way, everything works as planned.
Do not overfill drawers, as heavy loads strain the runners. It is useful to clear out now and then. Heavy boxes are best kept low.
How fitting works for loft storage
Once the main sections are fixed in place, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly, and then we check it all again. The time the fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Some interwar and suburban streets have driveways, which can make unloading easier, so let us know at the measuring visit. Otherwise, a visitor permit or a nearby bay helps. Floors and doorways are protected while the pieces come in.
- You get in touch and describe the loft room, its slopes and any dormer.
- We visit to measure the slopes and eaves and talk through cupboards, drawers and wardrobes under them.
- A written quote follows, with the design, materials and finish.
- The storage is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, cut to the angles we measured.
- We fit the storage in the loft, trimming the edges so they meet the ceiling neatly.
Before fitting day
- Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
